  1. This is shameful.

“A Sacramento Baptist preacher’s sermon praising attack on an Orlando nightclub that killed 50 people has the local LGBT community outraged. . .

“Are you sad that 50 pedophiles were killed today?” he said in the sermon. “Um no, I think that’s great! I think that helps society. I think Orlando, Florida is a little safer tonight. . .

“If we lived in a righteous government, they should round them all up and put them up against a firing wall, and blow their brains out,” Jimenez said in the sermon.”

Apparently he doesn’t realize that most pedophiles are heterosexual men. But even if this were a gathering of actual pedophiles, it would not be very Christian to be glad that they were murdered.

  2. There are nuts everywhere — and they usually get the most media attention. Especially if they claim to be Christians.

Won’t be pleasant in the years ahead.

I’ve taken a vow of silence on anything related to anything this week. 🙂 Amish for a week.

    Except on coyotes, of course.

  3. From the web site of that Sacramento church: “We are an independent, fundamental, soul winning, separated, King James Bible believing Baptist church–and not ashamed to say so.”

The statement of faith also mentions that the only source of authority is the King James Bible.

What does “separated” mean in this context?

  4. My friend David shared that article on Facebook, with this preface:

“I’m an Evangelical. This guy does not speak for me. I disassociate myself from what he says and thinks and proposes. This is not Christian.

“I’m sad that the leadership of Evangelicalism and the Religious Right is not speaking out against this heretical nonsense.

“Since we call for Muslims to speak out against their extremists, we are obligated to do the same with our own extremists.”

  5. The problem of lone-wolf churches. Sigh.

I realize denominations are out of favor, but all churches need a hierarchy of accountability that’s rooted in the Scriptures, sound doctrine & the historic creeds and statements of faith.

Too many of these guys make it up as they go along, reacting to every whim and wind of culture. Unfortunately, they find a microphone somehow, along with maybe 15 followers.

    So over it.

  6. When the wayward “baptist” guy with his microphone starts a violent movement to establish a state and slaughters hundreds of thousands of people worldwide in the name of Christ, then we’ve got problems too.

  7. Yawn. Merely another distraction from the left. Just like gun control. It’s easier than addressing the real problem, which is Islam.

But rest assured, if a muslim made similar comments, they’d get a Homeland Security position…..

“One of the sitting members on the Homeland Security Advisory Council’s (HSAC) Subcommittee on Countering Violent Extremism is a 25-year-old immigrant of Syrian heritage who said that the 9/11 attacks “changed the world for good” and has consistently disparaged America, free speech and white people on social media.

Laila Alawa was one of just 15 people tapped to serve on the newly-formed HSAC Subcommittee on Countering Violent Extremism in 2015 — the same year she became an American citizen. Just last week, the subcommittee submitted a report to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson, recommending that the DHS avoid using Muslim terminology like the words “sharia” and “jihad” when discussing terrorism.

Alawa says she immigrated into the U.S. when she was ten years old. Her family had already left Syria by the time she was born. “But I will always be Syrian. I will always be from Syria. I will always be of Syria,” she wrote in November 2015, calling the country her “homeland.””

“The Orlando gunman’s wife has told federal agents she tried to talk her husband out of carrying out the attack, NBC News has learned.

Omar Mateen’s wife, Noor Zahi Salman, told the FBI she was with him when he bought ammunition and a holster, several officials familiar with the case said. She told the FBI that she once drove him to the gay nightclub, Pulse, because he wanted to scope it out.

Mateen opened fire at Pulse early Sunday, leaving 49 dead and 53 injured. Twenty-seven victims remained hospitalized Tuesday. Six were in critical condition, according to hospital officials who said the death toll was still at risk of rising because one or two of those patients were “profoundly ill.”

Authorities are considering filing criminal charges against Noor for failing to tell them what she knew before the brutal attack, law enforcement officials say, but no decision has been made.

There are also reports out now that Disney notified the feds in April that they thought Omar and his wife were casing the place.

  9. How could Disney have noticed that–including knowing his name– and other places not?

If I was asked my response would be simple: This is terrible. I’m so sorry for the victims and their families. I will pray for all. What else can I do to help individuals?

You don’t have to say anything else other than, perhaps, “I weep with those who weep.”

    Otherwise, keep your mouth shut.

  10. Michelle,

    http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/14/us/orlando-shooter-omar-mateen/index.html

“Investigators believe the Orlando nightclub gunman made surveillance trips to both the club and a Disney shopping complex earlier this month — the same week Disney and other Orlando sites were hosting Gay Days 2016.

Omar Mir Seddique Mateen’s visits to the Pulse gay nightclub and Disney Springs happened between June 1 and June 6, a law enforcement official said Tuesday. Gay Days 2016 celebrations took place at Walt Disney World and other Orlando locations between May 31 and June 6.”

“Disney security officials told the FBI they believe Mateen also visited Disney World on April 26 to conduct surveillance, a law enforcement official told CNN. The FBI is investigating that possibility.

Mateen’s wife, Noor Salman, was with him on the Disney World visit. Authorities are investigating whether she knew about her husband’s intent, the official said. Salman has spoken to investigators.

More than a month after that Disney World trip, Mateen visited the Pulse nightclub and Disney Springs — an entertainment and shopping complex — apparently to scout out the locations, the official said. Authorities believe he was conducting surveillance, based on information learned in interviews.”

    http://www.wftv.com/news/pulse-shooting/source-gunmans-wife-could-face-arrest-told-fbi-she-knew-about-orlando-mass-shooting-plan/342763558

“According to a law enforcement source, Disney officials said that the couple might have been casing the venue.

Officials said Omar Mateen also cased Disney Springs and Pulse between June 1 and 6.

Law enforcement sources said a cellphone ping tied Mateen to the Disney Springs area for hours prior to Sunday morning’s shooting.

But it wasn’t until 2 a.m. when investigators said the terrorist opened fire on more than 100 people.

Authorities said Omar Mateen had five Facebook accounts, and was the target of law enforcement and the FBI searches.

Law enforcement said in May that Omar Mateen conducted online searches of the San Bernadino shooters, Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik.”

  12. rw: Odessa and Midland have had 5-yr. population growth increases of 9.6% and 11.1%, respectively (topping even Austin/Round Rock). Other than oil, what factors have spurred the tremendous growth?

  13. Tychicus, The growth in Midland and Odessa was all related to oil and gas. Most of the companies have now really cut back because of the drop in prices, but they will be ready to fire things up again when prices rise. Those are the best people in the world. I would be a moderate in Midland and Ector Counties.

  14. Just to give you an idea what the boom was like in Midland, two years ago you couldn’t get an apartment or a house. Texas Tech kids with summer jobs in the oil business were commuting from Lubbock (120 miles away).

  15. I realize that that “pastor” is one guy on the fringe (along with some other “pastor” elsewhere who said something very similar), but on social media, they will be trotted out to show how Christians supposedly think.

Have you all noticed (of course you have – silly question) that liberals & the media will fall all over themselves to say that Muslims’ bad actions are not connected to “real” Islam, but when someone with even a tenuous connection to Christianity does something wrong, their actions are indeed blamed on Christianity?

Of course, we are to expect such inconsistency & disconnect. They hated Jesus first, & we belong to Him. (It’s still frustrating to see it, though.)

  16. Yes, “separated” means separated from anything considered worldly in fundamentalist vernacular. It’s part of the basic tenets, don’t drink, smoke, go to movies, or anything else considered worldly entertainment.
