    Many of us are preparing to leave in the next week or so, the rush begins on Friday. All flights go through the capital of Port Moresby. Please pray for peace and that wisdom would prevail.

    Prime Minister Peter O’Neill — who protesters were calling on to resign amid accusations of corruption — blamed “agitators responsible for instigating a violent confrontation.”

    Witnesses told CNN that students had gathered on the University of Port Moresby campus, and were intending to go to Parliament to protest when police blocked them from leaving.
    “Police came into campus and stopped the students from going to parliament,” he said.”

    “Local lawyer Hubert Namani told CNN there were “riots and protests starting up all over the city,” in solidarity with the students. He added that he had closed his business and sent staff home due to the unrest.

    If it isn’t about Hillary, or Bernie or The Donald, it doesn’t get on the news unless an airplane falls out of the sky.
    Or a cop shoots a black man.

  6. We made an offer on a house and it was accepted. Closing on this house June 24, closing on the other ASAP, as the owners want to move. So probably we’ll do both on the same day.

  7. Yesterday, Husband was going to Georgia but now it is changed and they are going to Ohio. But then he should have his two hundred hours in and can decide where to go from there. He has learned a great deal he did not know about truck driving. The driving itself is fun (to him) and traveling, but the inner workings of the industry are a bit alarming.

    Three more days of VBS. Will the staff survive my children?

  9. Wow, two sides of the house sale experience. Peter has been trying to sell his house for years, Chas for weeks.

    The shortest sale for us was a handshake with our son and daughter-in-law followed by 12 weeks of house hunting for us. Our Washington house, which we bought new with an idea to sell, took about a month.

    Then the other two–the never-ending house sales. With the CT house it was a race, what would happen first, the house sale or the baby’s gestation?

    Baby won by a week.

    Second sale–we were down to our last thousand dollars after a year of double mortgages–which including having to finance a $25K above ground septic system and wait through the after shock of 9/11 watching the housing market tumble.

    It was very difficult. I paid bills based on a large matrix that took into effect timing, anticipated pay checks and careful planning. The Lord used that second never-ending house sale to teach me many things.

    I’m glad they’re over but the lessons were important.

    I’ve sympathized with you and your family all along, Peter. And I’ve understood your sadness and work, Chas, as well.

    I think I’ll go clear out a box or a drawer just to keep my hand in . . .

  11. I got my teeth cleaned, and God is good! No cavities♡

    The weather is cooler this a.m. with a nice breeze flowing through the window. 3% chance of rain. I do not recall ever seeing that prediction before. I’d probably round it to 0%.

    The flowers photos are of magnolia, and two types of hydrangea, all in bloom in Atlanta now. The magnolia and oak leaf hydrangea photos were taken while driving through my friend’s apartment community. The blue hydrangea photo was taken at a neighbor’so mail box.

    In the writer’s group Saturday someone used the word hinky in their writing. It’s a Southern expression I did not know.

  13. VBS here also. 4 of my clan attending. The mission focus this year is a Christian camp for deaf children. The eight year old has learned the signs to the memory verses perfectly!

  14. That is a neat tangible focus. I am a proponent of VBS as that is where I learned about Christ. But I have not worked there for years. I use it as my once a year vacation, where I can mow the lawn and weedeat by myself rather than keeping an eye on folks. But, the social situation is very challenging in the after effects on my children. Their behavior definitely goes down hill as they see the behaviors of other children and try to mimic the whining and stuttering and hair twisting and whatever. And then the teachers who think my children need three warnings. I remind them that these children are smart and can count to three. They know when they have been given extra room for disturbing others. But I really appreciate what the teachers do so, when it gets too bad, I just keep the one who can’t control himself home.

    I feel like death warmed over — and i have at least one election followup story to do today plus a couple interviews on other stories. I hate the day after election night shifts, I don’t do well on 4-5 hours of sleep.

    So, so tired.

  17. The buyer for our house was the first one to look at it when it went back on the market in March. She looked twice, then we didn’t hear anything of her until May. She was working out the financing.

    As for the job, I haven’t heard since last week, but since the house we bought is more than we wanted to pay, I think I’ll tell the new job no, since it would be too low a salary for the house.

  18. He said yes!! Next Tuesday, hubby and I are celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary with a night away — our first without-kids vacation in 25 years. 🙂

  20. My friend, Karen, is finally better. She lost 20 lbs. of fluid in a week. She is still weak, but over the worst of it. Somehow, she did not end up in the hospital which seems like a miracle.

  21. Janice – I’ve heard of, & used, the word “hinky”, but I haven’t heard it from a southern person.

    Mumsee used the word “scuzzy” last night, a word I haven’t heard in a long time. And Donna’s mention of feeling like “death warmed over” is a phrase I haven’t heard in a long time.

  22. The buyer of this house looked at it a couple of weeks ago.. It was second on their list.
    Evidently they didn’t get the first.
    I met them today in a second inspection. They are a young couple and seem excited to get this. It is a very good house in a good location.
    No children to play with. but Linda (Chuck’s wife) says they don’t play with each other anymore. They have “play dates”. Whatever that is.

  23. And neighborhoods go through changes where younger families begin to dominate again sometimes.

    We’re always semi-amused/horrified at the weapons used by people in our crime logs every week. This week featured a woman biting another woman on the arm in an alley (before stealing her cell phone).

    In the past we’ve had people hit with frozen fish and canes (a particularly popular weapon).

    And this week’s featured incident:

  25. Here’s a wonderful crime story for you Donna. This happened in Baltimore yesterday: “Police say a man, 26, shot his father, 47, in a dispute over something that was or was not said in an obituary for the victim’s other son. The funeral was for Antonio Addison, a recent homicide victim. The shooting happened in a church recreation hall during a repast meal that followed the funeral.”

  29. Silly cat. He decided he wanted to be carried around the property and took a leap and clawed my stomach as he tried to reach my shoulders. Ouch.

    I also had the opportunity to take care of our associate director’s 4 year old little boy today. His mom fell and hurt herself badly enough that they went to the hospital to be checked out. I offered to watch him so he didn’t have to go along. The little guy was a hoot – didn’t stop talking hardly at all. I had him draw some pictures for my office wall and then we went and had a giant freezie because it was such a hot day. His mom’s going to be very sore for a while, but she will be okay.
