It will be interesting to see what happens with David French. He is an honorable person. That can’t be said about Trump and Hillary.
In the last few days Trump has acted like someone who needs to be sent to an insane asylum. His attack on Republican Governor Martinez (just because she hasn’t endorsed him) was particularly childish.
He may do the impossible: Cause the people to be more respectful of political reporters.
The Philippines is one of the most dangerous nations in the world for journalists, with 174 murdered since a chaotic and corruption-plagued democracy replaced the dictatorship of Ferdinand Marcos three decades ago. “Most of those killed, to be frank, have done something. You won’t be killed if you don’t do anything wrong,” Duterte said, adding that many journalists in the Philippines were corrupt.
Détente is referred to as the Trump of the Philippines. As Mayor, he endorsed death squads. He commented on the rape of a Australian missionary that it was unfortunate especially since she was beautiful and he should have been first. He was elected president in May. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodrigo_Duterte_presidential_campaign,_2016#Controversies
As we have discussed before, now that Trump has clinched the nomination the mainstream press will begin to run negative stories on his past instead of just reporting the inane statements he made the previous day.

If they think David French is the answer, they’re not asking the right question.
Unless you’re really into politics, or a National Review subscriber, you’ll have no idea who he even is. Call me underwhelmed by the choice.

There seems to be a precedent for Trump in Brazil’s recent past:

I like David French, but he’s never served in public office, albeit he did willingly enlist in the Army as a JAG and go to Iraq.
