Evening all. I have been filling out forms and sending them off. Lots of forms if we want to leave the country.
I am actually on my computer as the remote monitor is working tonight.
I will go see about ordering a new computer as this one is on its last legs.
Good morning here at the hospital. They just took Art back. I have Starbucks coffee so I feel more alert now than I did at 4:30 a.m. on the drive over.
Praying that everything will go well, Janice. That this day will mark a return to strength and health for Art and that the recovery will also be problem free.
I brought up an issue in the SS lesson yesterday that I had encountered before.
But which lots of people don’t understand or presume.
To hear some preachers, you would think that Saul watched the stoning of Stephen then went to Damascus. (Or soon after.).
I looked into it and Usher’s commentary says Saul made havoc of the church for about two years before he went to Damascus. Some say as much as three.
So Saul had a reputation by the time he headed to Damascus.
Can you imagine the faith it took for Ananias to go to see Saul?
Is there a “Saint Ananias” church anywhere?
Chas, aren’t we told that God told Ananias that Saul was a chosen vessel, or was that Barnabas? I have the hunch that in heavily persecuted countries even today, if an evangelist is told that some known persecutor wants to become a Christian, he will take a deep breath, pray, and go with a mentality of “I’m going to get killed one way or another, sometime, and if I perish, I perish. But how wonderful it will be if this is genuine!” If someone you trust says, “This is genuine,” you still want to “wait and see, and I’ll believe it when I see it.” If you are absolutely sure that God is the one reassuring you (I don’t believe God “speaks” to individuals today outside of Scripture, but clearly he did in those days), then you can indeed go in full faith, but also with a sense of “if God chooses for this to be the day of my death in some other way, that is OK too.”
Irises are one of my favorite flowers. When I was small my mother forced tulips in her flower beds. Our weather is not really condusive to tulips, so she put them in the freezer for a set amount of time. I loved the purple and yellow alternating tulips. In an iris I get both colors on the same flower.
Many years ago I was in New Orleans when a wedding had just taken place at the cathedral. The photographer was taking photos and the bridesmaids carried arrangements of daffodils, irises, and pink tulips. It was always my fantasy to do that but both times I have gotten married in the Fall. Perhaps one day I will convince someone to do that.
I love irises, too. When I moved to Tennessee and realized their flower was the iris and their bird the mockingbird, I figured I was in the right place! (We rarely see mockingbirds here, but we do have some purple irises–not yet in bloom.) I even planted some irises in Nashville.
Mother’s Day was a bit different. We went to church as usual, and the pastor gave a good sermon about Jochebed, and how she hid her son because she didn’t fear Pharaoh’s command. When we were driving home from church, we witnessed a head-on collision in front of us and got out to see if we could help. It looked like smoke was rising from the engines – it turned out to be steam from the rad – so we got the people out and away from the cars and then tried to keep them warm – it was a chilly day – and out of shock until the ambulances came (it was a good twenty five minutes to the nearest town with fire and ambulance services), as they were badly cut and bruised and one had a broken arm. There were seven people altogether, three of them children. The ambulances put six of them on back boards, but that was more of a precaution. Then my father gave a witness statement to the police and we continued home. We went out again to a family gathering for supper with second and youngest sibling and families. It was a good distraction, watching the antics of Little and Baby Niece and hearing Second and Youngest sibling compare pregnancy notes – they are due within two days of each other in June.
Beautiful iris! My mom loved those, too, and had them in her garden which was always so beautiful. She had a large backyard and kept it up beautifully, it was always a burst of color — and she’d often send me home with a fresh bouquet when I went over for Sunday dinners.
The irises were gifts from a former friend who lived in my neighborhood. This was not the same neighbor who gave me the ground orchids. We’ve had some giving neighbors through the years.
Toastie peanut butter crackers and Nature Valley bars for breakfast and early lunch. I know Miss Bosley is feeling lonesome. I told Art I might try to smuggle her in for overnight, but the nurses would not know what to think of a patient who meows to express his pain.
Getting nervous and excited here. I made the reservations for the hotel near the airport in New Orleans. BG and I will go over on Wednesday, June 1st, spend part of the night, catch a shuttle to the airport for a 6 am flight to Oakland. I can leave my truck at the hotel while I am gone for $7 a day rather than the airport prices–then she said something about complimentary. I may wait and call back this afternoon to double check everything—she was a little scattered and confusing.
Worried about Annie Oakley, she’s barely eating and is acting a bit lethargic, not like herself. Guess I’ll call the vet today, maybe I can scoot her in early tomorrow
I was sent to the hospital room to wait. Finally they just brought Art from recovery and kicked me out of the hospital room to get him situated. I got to say hello to him, but that was all.

That was the point I made.
Last Sunday, we taught on Philip and the Ethiopian. The lesson was titled “Obedience”. I pointed out this was a greater issue of obedience
It took lots of courage, regardless of the vision. for Ananias to confront Saul.
This is a bad guy he’s going to.
(for all he knows.)
I, BTW do believe that people can have visions from God.
And, I believe in angels. I’m sure I met one once.
A real one! Not being cute about TSWITW here.
JOY! My daughter sent me a nice email for Mother’s Day. In it she told me that they are planning a baby shower for my youngest the first weekend that I am back. This will be my 10th or 12th grandchild and I have never been to a baby shower for any of them.
I just went to her gift list, that hasn’t been shared with anyone else, and bought her an ergo to carry the baby. I want her to know as she carries this baby close that my arms are around them both in prayer, holding them close.

God didn’t tell me what he is doing.
But he might have told somebody something.
But I’m beginning to think Ricky is right.
I protested for years, “There are still ten good men in Sodom”.
But it appears they voted for Trump.
I see nothing but bad coming from this.
God may have abandoned America.
But he didn’t abandon control..
We just celebrated the birthday of our younger daughter. She wanted an angel food cake with Cool Whip and strawberries and blueberries, and also Chinese take-out. I gave her a card I actually made several years ago, one of my favorites from my card stash.
Her main gift is something she specifically asked for, but we ordered it just a little too late and it won’t arrive until tomorrow. (We couldn’t find what she initially asked for.) But tonight I told her we had something else she has been asking for a long time, and I could see she was puzzled as she opened it. (That was the point, to tease a little.) Well, from time to time she will say something like “Misten is so good. Misten should run for president; I think everyone would vote for her.” Or she’ll say, “We should get a really big poster and put it on our car that says Misten for President.” Well, I was ordering something else from a site that makes photo gifts and saw they do indeed have oversize photo magnets (20 x 30 or something like that), inexpensive, that can be customized. So I uploaded a photo of Misten with a snowy nose looking right at the camera (the innocent pose I had as my gravatar for a long time) and underneath it I put in big letters “VOTE FOR MISTEN,” in smaller letters “because she’s so good” and then at the bottom corner in somewhat small type “Paid for by citizens to elect Miss Tennessee.”
As you can imagine, she loves it . . . but she made room for it on our fridge, and it is now there. (I rather intended she’d take it in her room.)
So, be careful what you ask for, because you just might get it! 🙂
I’ll tell you about the angel sometime soon.
He didn’t tell me anything. He came to help.
It may have happened twice. But the second time may have been a rare coincidence..
Part of our family lore includes the vision of an angel at the old water pump in front of my grandfather’s house (in Iowa — and I have that water pump in my garage).
I don’t remember too many other details, but I think it was to let folks know someone had died, according to the story that was passed down.
So I bought some *real* cat food for Annie and she did lap up the juice, at least. I’m going to drop her off early in the morning at the vet’s. Something’s still amiss and I need to talk to them about food alternatives, she seems not to like the prescription food they gave her AT ALL.
We’re up early today.
But I can’t linger.
Off to the Y.

Woke up to much needed rain here. So thankful. We still need rain further north and in the Fort Mac region.

Art is out and ok. Doc said he may need surgery for a leaky valve. It will be wait and see for a month or two. I am still in the waiting room.

Us northerners call them crayfish. Too much work and not enough meat to eat, so we use them for smallmouth bait. Smallys love ’em. 🙂
Lobsters are bigger and taste better anyway.

They are tasty though too. As a kid we would catch a hundred or so and a friend’s mom would steam them and serve with butter and saltines.

The personal stories I have heard of angels, it appears they just step in to help, not to tell us things. But it is neat to hear.
