Prayer Requests 5-6-16

It’s Friday, so please remember to pray for Mumsee, Mike, and the Nestlings.

Anyone else?

Psalm 23

¹The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

  1. Thanks to those who prayed for son to get summer employment. It appears he will be working in a special collections library with some very old poetry.

Please continue to pray for a successful procedure on Monday for Art so his AFib will be corrected.

Please pray for me as I have a few followup items to take care of on my writing projects (edit final proof on story about Bosley in a Christmas compilation and select editor for devotional coloring book containing flash fiction…flash fiction editors who are Christian?)

  2. I didn’t know AFib could be corrected. My dad’s case will only get worse as he ages, his doctor says, and not much can be done about that, apparently. (Maybe he should get a second opinion?) Although it’s probably different with different people — a lady in my dad’s church who is maybe a decade younger has a worse case, as she has pain with her AFib, and my dad doesn’t.

Prayers for both you and Art, Janice.

    And continued prayers for KBells.

    Chas and Elvera, too.

    Two requests:

My husband had awful tooth pain Wednesday, and had a root canal yesterday afternoon. Last night he woke up from a dead sleep around 1:30 a.m., in worse pain than ever. He saw the endodontist again this morning, and they couldn’t do anything other than tell him to alternate ibuprofen with Tylenol. The pain is more of a dull ache now, as would be expected after a root canal, rather than the sharp pain he was having last night. Prayers for his relief, and that he won’t have to be on pain killers long.

The other request is for my friend Karen’s mom. Valrie took a fall last night at her assisted living place, and is hospitalized. I don’t know any more details than that. Valrie’s had strokes before, and complications after cataract surgery. Thanks for praying for her. And please pray for Karen, too. None of her siblings lives closer than a few hours away, so a lot falls on Karen’s shoulders as far as communicating with medical staff, etc., and getting the word out to the family.

  3. Maybe your dad is too old to be considered for the ablation procedure. It would not hurt to get a second opinion. This will be the third different thing to try to get Art out of AFib. Also, sleep apnea can cause it, too, so Art had a sleep study that he will later find out results on.

  4. Thanks, RKessler and Janice. I think you’re right that his age — 86 — could be a factor. He’s in relatively good health, though, other than that (and some arthritis). He and my mom are coming to our house on Mother’s Day, so I’ll check on that.

  5. Janice, will this be a catheter ablation? It is such a miracle they can do that, and I hope it works for Art as it did for me. My atrial flutter was a little different from afib, but it was similarly related to an electrical path gone haywire. The length of the procedure can vary depending on the complexity of the electrical issues. I was knocked out for only about two hours and went home after about two more hours. I’ll be praying that Art’s procedure goes similarly well and does the trick.

I later had a sleep study and was diagnosed with sleep apnea, which might have contributed to the flutter. Even though the flutter was no longer an issue, I went on CPAP therapy and do notice the difference in how soundly I sleep and how alert I am during the day. So even if the ablation takes care of Art’s afib, if he does have sleep apnea I’d encourage him to try the CPAP.

  6. Thanks for keeping Art in prayer. He is suppose to stay overnight after his procedure. They typically insert through a leg artery but can do it through the arm or chest arteries. I think it is a cath type procedure. They cauterize, using heat or ice, areas that are misfiring to cut them off so new areas can form properly paced electrical charges. My friend, Karen, had this done and since she worked previously in the heart surgery unit as a nurse at Emory, she is a wealth of information. She did not have to stay overnight. The surgery time can be short or long depending on how long it takes to find the right areas that need closing down. It is miraculous. My pastor’s wife and daughter (my son’s age) have both had success with the procedure as well as my friend Karen (and Kevin, here) so I am optimistic.

  7. 6 Arrows, I once had an infection after a dental procedure that caused intense pain and a high fever. I thought I might die from it. I hope your husband does not have fever with the pain.

  8. Janice, he doesn’t seem to have a fever, thankfully, but the ibuprofen/Tylenol alternating that I mentioned above did not help much, and he started having more pain again late this afternoon, when nobody was open anymore. Two area clinics wouldn’t take him, the place he had the root canal was closed, an after-hours emergency number he was given had the message, “Sorry, it’s after business hours.” (Not those exact words, but that was the gist. IOW, next time don’t have an emergency outside of business hours. /Sarcasm.)

He finally reached someone at a different after-hours number, and is picking up a prescription for antibiotics and Tylenol with codeine that was called in for him.

He’s frustrated beyond words with the run-around the last couple days. His in-network dentist referred him to an out-of-network endodontist, and we’re stuck with a bill for a $1,000 procedure that took only 25 minutes to perform, and has brought him almost no relief.

Thank you very much for your prayers. I certainly hope he doesn’t get a fever. I can’t imagine how miserable you must have felt, Janice, after the dental procedure you mention. No fun at all.

  9. My friend’s mom is back at her assisted living place now. Thanks for prayers.

Donna: “Gotta read CPAP slowly …” LOL! I misread something the other day. In the beginning-level piano series I’m using with my daughter, one part of the instructions for a technical skill indicated to “imitate the teacher.” I thought it said, “irritate the teacher”! 😀
