Morning all.
Chas, so glad that Chuck and Linda are there. They are the ones walking into the future with you. Praying for a sweet time in the midst of the work.
My daughter comes tomorrow and we’ll be attending a performance of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night in the original language with the parts all played by men at the local JC. Should be interesting. We watched the movie last night so we’d be at least a little familiar with the story.
Busy day. Still have not returned to Biddy and I think I’ll leave her at rest until next week. The next four days are too fractured with family and other activities, plus a visiting dog.
has been on walkabout in the UK for three months with his wife. They stopped at the Birmingham Library for a day and sent me some photos they took of Oswald Chambers-related matters.
The plot thickens on just what Biddy was up to in the 1940s and 1950s–which sends me back to that 91 year old in Hong Kong.
It may lead to nothing, but unless I follow the trail I’ll never know. I’m so thankful the manuscript isn’t due until December 1. That gives me lots of time to follow up everything! LOL
Off to a busy morning; one the Adorables will be here until after lunch.
Chas, like everyone else, I am glad that Chuck and Linda are coming to be with you. I am relieved you will be moving closer to them.
Mother’s Day? What an emotional day. Last year I cried for most of it because BG was still living with her dad at Nana’s and didn’t even call or text. This year? Who knows. She is with me and Mr. P told her earlier this week that she was either to be at work or with me on Sunday, she wasn’t to be anywhere else. This motherhood gig isn’t for sissies. They come here with their own personalities and they regularly rip your heart out and try to stomp that sucker flat.
I am off to the office for a few hours. Guy has scraps of paper that are “really important” and wants them scanned and emailed to him. Then he wants a box of business cards he has collected somehow put into a spread sheet so that they can be uploaded to a data base. I told him I have an app on my phone that will do most of it, because if I had to type all of that information into a spreadsheet I would rather have a root canal.
I was offered the job as the wine seller at the local Piggly Wiggly, but after putting it on paper and looking at it, I couldn’t afford the pay cut. I have sent my resume in to another possibility but haven’t heard anything yet.
I’m up early (for me, 6 a.m.) as I have an 8 a.m. assignment hanging out at the homeless encampment as social workers try to convince them that they’d really be happier in rehab (Ha) and do they have family maybe they could return to? Please??
The area’s become a mini skid row filled with sidewalk and waterfront park tents, overflowing shopping carts and trash (and other unspeakable materials) in the past year and there seems to be no easy or quick resolution. The rights of the homeless & the rights of the local residents and business owners are colliding.
Good Morning…oh it is so beautiful in the forest this morning and the snow has almost completely melted! The pine scent it absolutely dizzying!! The deer are meandering through and they are keeping the dogs entertained 🙂
I am traveling to Ohio for Mother’s Day…I will spend the day with my Mother and sisters along with some nieces, great nieces and nephews….
I will hopefully get to see my first born on his 40th birthday tomorrow night when I land in Cincinnati 🙂
Mother’s Day? I tell my children it is not a real holiday and I prefer to not go there. Some of them are happy with that, others have other ideas. I guess we will see what happens. My mom is long gone and I prefer to ignore the day.
I’ve only photographed yellow-rumped (a few times, but nothing spectacular) and a female yellow warbler (I thought it a female goldfinch when I was photographing it, as I’d been taking photos of goldfinches and it was close to me). Last year I saw a magnolia warbler, really beautiful bird, but my camera wasn’t working at the time. I’ve seen other species, too, but couldn’t say which ones.
A few minutes ago, a herd of deer went running across the back field, initially quite near to the fence. I grabbed my camera, and when I got back to the window with it (too far away for any great shots, as they were moving farther away), I saw a collie jump up off my back deck and go running and barking. She was pleased enough with the sight that she barked several more times after they were gone. And then when I called her for breakfast, she ran to the house too. (She doesn’t run much anymore, but it’s a cool spring day and she had excitement to start her day.)
We have seen very few deer since the fires. Generally, we have several leaving their new borne fawns near our yard for safety, this year there are none.
I will be working on Mother’s Day. We usually go to my mom’s, then the next weekend to hubby’s mom as her birthday is the 17th. Next weekend, my eldest daughter gets her bachelors in social work from Eastern so, of course, we will be there. She is graduating with honors. I am trying to convince hubby to go see his mom this weekend, so no one feels left out. It is a 5 hour drive one way. My mom lives in the same town the graduation will take place. It will be the first time in 8 years that I have missed spending that day with her. I am the only child still living in the state, so I feel it is my responsibility.
Done with the homeless assignment, pretty productive couple of hours.
The advantage of living in the town you also cover: The head outreach social worker who works the streets to get the homeless connected to the help they need is someone I met years ago at the dog park. So we always hug and ask each other about our dogs before talking business. She really has just the right touch out there, a relaxed, friendly non-officious way about her. But she used to be an LA County Sheriff’s deputy so she knows BS when she hears it.
We may not have adult SS because of Mother’s Day, I seem to recall that the gals in the church wrangled that at some point. 🙂 But I may be remembering wrong.
How’s the work day going for Chas?
Nice birds-in-the-trees shots
It’s really overcast and even a bit misty today, they thought it might rain but it probably won’t. Very cool though. 🙂
Well, one of the cool things with how God made deer is that they mate in fall and the embryo develops–and then stops developing for a few months so that its mother isn’t using her energy to support a growing fawn while she is going through a winter that may offer little in the way of food. Then in the spring, it starts developing and is born. So I would guess that an early spring might indeed prompt earlier development and earlier birth. But some seasonal things are more dependent on other things (amount of daylight, for example) than on food supply and warmth, and I didn’t know either way with deer. But it was my understanding (I might be wrong) that they are more likely to be born in June than in May, and so I would think that “early” still might be May 15 or 20. (A female fawn who is large enough will mate her first fall; though she will only bear one fawn the first time, it is still especially important that she be able to get through winter without a developing baby taking away the energy she needs to survive and finish growing herself! I think most fawns won’t breed their first year, but studies have shown that if they reach a certain size, they will be bred the second month of the fall rut.)
We’ve really been busy today..
Took a truckload of stuff to Goodwill and another load to the recycle station.
Strangely, there is more “stuff” in the way now than before. With boxes to put stuff in.
I did get a couple of important projects done.
I went to the National Day of Prayer event at the state capitol. The weather was windy and beautiful white clouds kept passing by against the blue sky. I felt a few drops of rain. There were not very many people there. I did have a friend to sit with who is state leader of CWA. We usually connect monthly on a virtual prayer call. I feel blessed to know her. She gave me the new book, Fiesty & Feminine, written by the national leader, Penny Nance. I look forward to reading it.
Along the way home, I stopped in at our new Walmart. It was my first time to go in there. I got two things for my brother’s birthday since he shops at Walmart and can easily return what I got. I also found groceries. I was surprised by the shoppers who seemed a bit more upscale than ones I have seen at other Walmarts. It was a nice variety of cultures represented, too. There is so much building going on in that shopping center and I saw a Starbucks there, too. It’s maybe two miles from where we live. Really, in all directions from where I live, everything has changed so much!
Mother’s Day?
Maybe have joint celebration/lunch with brother since his birthday is Saturday. It’s a good time to remember our mom and dad because his birthday was on April 30th. And, of course, it’s the day before Art’s procedure…early to bed on Sunday and early to rise on Monday to get over to the hospital.
The managing broker of the main office took an agent, the receptionist, and me out to lunch today. She said it was our Mother’s Day treat. I had trout almondine. I haven’t had that in a really long time. It was delicious. I married a man that loves to fish but won’t eat it. 🙂
Members of the first Kindertransport arrive in Harwich, England…
Between December 1938 and September 1939, close to 10,000 unaccompanied refugee children from central Europe were permitted entry into Great Britain. They arrived in a series of transports which came to be known as the Kindertransports. The first group, which arrived in Harwich via the Hook of Holland on December 2, 1938, consisted of 200 children between the ages of 12 and 17 from Berlin and Hamburg.
It is almost 6:00 and it is 74 degrees! Lulah had great fun at the park and now she is snoozing….I think I am ready for my flight tomorrow…I’m already looking forward to coming home! 🙂
Good morning!!! I’ve been up since five….have had too much coffee…Becca-boo just came down…time for some snuggling!

So, how are you celebrating Mother’s Day?
I’m NOT playing my clarinet.
Everything else is up for grabs. 🙂

Mumsee, isn’t it a little early in the year for fawns? They’re generally born in May and June from what I understand, and we’re barely into May.

Yes, but with such a warm winter and spring, one might expect them to match the foliage. They are adjustable with that.

Clearing out ‘stuff’ — it always looks worse before it gets better.
I wonder if that applies to politics?

Well, dang.
I just told one of the advertising people “Hey, at least it’s Friday.”
Her eyebrow shot up and she says, “Oh. Is this ‘your’ Friday?”
“It’s everybody’s Friday,” I said.
“No. This is Thursday.”
I felt like crying!

They wanted to become English.
