  1. The realm of politics will always be a flawed reflection of God’s perfect will. But it does seem we’re entering perhaps a more deeply flawed reflection. 😦

All the more reminder to put our trust in Him, not in a political party or (heaven forbid!) any candidate. We vote (or refrain from voting), according to our conscience. The choice is this time particularly challenging for most of us.

But ultimately, come what may, the way forward — as a people, nation and world — is directed by something much bigger.

    Creation groans …

  2. The shaky landscape in California (where we’re used to shaking, after all):

BURLINGAME, Calif. (AP) — The Republican Party in California has been riven for decades between those who want to tack to the ideological center to expand its diminishing appeal and those who want it to enforce conservative purity. But the prospect of Donald Trump clinching the nomination in the Golden State has scrambled the party’s political fault lines in advance of its pivotal June primary, forging unexpected alliances that blur those longstanding divisions.Tea party favorite Ted Cruz was being endorsed Saturday by former Gov. Pete Wilson, a centrist governor who raised taxes and feuded regularly with conservatives.

Two Republicans with knowledge of Wilson’s decision told The Associated Press that the former governor and U.S. senator will announce his support for Cruz on Saturday at the state Republican Party convention in Burlingame. The Republicans spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly before the announcement.

Trump, meanwhile, has snapped up support from stalwarts on California’s right, like conservative activist Ted Costa and former state Sen. Tony Strickland, and its middle, like former congressman Doug Ose. Cruz might also be effectively helped by big-tent Republicans trying to stop Trump.

“There’s always been that conservative versus moderate, can you speak to the middle or only to the base? And this transcends that,” said Tim Clark, Trump’s state director and a seasoned GOP strategist here. …

  3. Indiana is strange. And is hard to “call.”

… For all of these reasons, Indiana remains a tough primary to call. But the toughest factor is the state’s own essential strangeness. What do I think, as a native son? I think Trump will do better here than most pundits predict. But I also think those pundits should spend less time talking about Trump and more time trying to understand our complicated, diverse, historically messy (and yet ultimately endearing) 50 states.

  4. If these rent-a-mobs were Republicans, or better yet, Trump supporters pulling this anarchy stuff at a Hillary or Bernie function, we would never hear the end of it, and most likely Obama would also weigh in. Incredible, and yet the liberal, progressive leaders simply look the other way because they actually LOVE it.

“Clearly the media sympathizes with these Mexican flag-waving crowds in much the same way that it sympathized with the rioters at Ferguson and Baltimore. But when you excuse political violence, you tend to get more of it. We know leftist radicals aren’t shy about taking so-called “direct action” to intimidate opponents. We also know that at least some Trump supporters are spoiling for a fight. Trump himself has been spoiling for a fight. We risk the worst political violence in a generation. Am I wrong to believe that some in the media are thrilled at the prospect — so long as the Left is leading the charge?”

  5. I think there’s reason to worry that violence/hating-on Trump is acceptable in many quarters. He needs a good security detail, that’s for sure. 😦

  6. I have this very bad feeling. Those Mexican-flag waving protesters are going to clinch the nomination for Trump.
