    Not much.
    No Y for us. She’s still in bed and will bee ’till I pull her out.
    Polly is coming over to stay with her while I go to Lions. I need to do that.
    I need to explain what happened to some of them.

  6. While I agonize over ever decision of what to buy for my house…I don’t have that problem with other people’s condos or money. We have a condo for sale. It looks blah–mainly because the walls are primer white with white draperies (to cover large sliding glass doors). The furniture isn’t bad. My suggestion was to paint the walls. That wasn’t a go so I was instructed to brighten it up. A large “modern” colorful painting, a side table, a rug, two shower curtains, 4 pillows, and a few other things—-$258 I have some nails I will donate to the project, and I need to take my tool kit to hang things and move around what is already down there.

  7. Good morning! Chas, you are so loved and respected by all here. And Elvers is, too, because she is a part of you.

    I need to get back outside to my chores, but will read my Bible and have coffee first. When I was on the phone with my friend, Karen, I had to laugh about how our lives are so parallel to their lives. About twenty something years ago when we met, when we were on the phone, our conversations were always being interrupted by our only children in need of something. Now, our conversations are interrupted by our kitties in need of something. I opened a window this morning so Miss Bosley has been sitting on the will taking in bird sounds and movements. Otherwise she would be making it difficult for me to post this.

    Every now and then God grants me a glimpse of what could have been…
    Senior Awards are today. Sarcastic Mommy asked if she was getting an award for most tardies and absences, BUT she asked for a new dress to wear today so we got one yesterday and she set her alarm and got up at 6:30, She is in her room getting dressed. I fixed breakfast and took it to her. I have had very few mornings like this in 13 years of her education. I am savoring this one.

  13. Is that a fuchsia plant in the smaller photo? We had a big fuchsia bush in our backyard when i was growing up and my friends and I liked to sit around on the ground and “pop” them on those lazy, boring summer afternoons. This was not appreciated by my mom, she of the green thumb.

    Well, another Friday and another scramble to find a weekend story to write. Got the trash hauled out early.

    Tonight I’m going to a play at the local community college where one of our church young people has a leading part (Into the Woods). Very talented biracial family with amazing voices and, apparently, some strong acting abilities as well. We have a couple young people in our church pursuing acting careers.

    I talked to Carol yesterday who said she’ll be without a phone for May as well (which means I have to call her through the front desk — she can’t call me from their phone as I’m in a different area code).

    She sounded OK, she’s still planning to move into a back house with the boyfriend and get married in the next few months (the boyfriend’s brother & family live in the front house). Since she doesn’t ask my opinion, I don’t offer it. 🙂 I’m planning to go up to see her next Saturday, it’s been at least a month since I’ve seen her I think — and it’s been a very nice break, to be honest. Since she’s unable to call me almost daily I’ve been out of the daily “drama” loop.

    This weekend I really must call my mom’s 3rd cousin, I received a note this week from her care taker asking if I could call soon (they don’t have my cell # but I’ll provide that to them); I confess I avoid calling her because she’s a real talker — last time I was on the phone for 4 hours, there was no easy way to break in and end it; but this time I’ll plan to say I just have go do “something” after an hour or so.

  16. The top photo is a native azalea which I may have called Blaze, but should have called it Flame. The other photo is of what a neighbor gave me from her yard before she moved to a high rise. She called them ground orchids
    I will give some to my brother sometime since he said he’d like to have some, too.

  21. Eight and nine year olds are working on their chess games. I have a chess master coming out once a week to work with them. I think it is good for both of them but especially for nine year old. Helps him focus and strategize.

  23. Becca and I just got back from a delightful lunch at The Black Walnut Cafe. She’s dismissed from school at noon on Fridays. Sometimes we do something special on these afternoons, like paint pottery or catch a movie, but today we just went to lunch.

    Lindsey has a friend spending the night tonight. Scott leaves in the morning (weather permitting) for South Carolina. My BFF and her fourteen year old daughter (who’s like a cousin to my girls), are coming to spend the night tomorrow. Even though we both live in Houston, we are an hour from each other and don’t get to spend as much time together as we’d like. So, it will be a treat to have them.

  26. I use to enjoy playing chess with son. For a short while we played with others at the library. My husband never played games with us. He will play games like Bridge on the computer, but never games with others. Maybe because he was an only child? My brother, V., and my son, Wesley, and I play games when we all get together, but my husband just reads a book. Are others that way too? I am thankful Wesley and my brother enjoy games. Mumsee, do you play chess with them?

  27. Janice, you have to admit that if you are on only child—especially when we grew up—it really isn’t much of a mental stretch to solve Clue or win at Monopoly when you are the only player.

  28. Janice, I do play with them but I am not very good at it so I wanted somebody who could really teach them. He noticed how microfocused son is and says chess can really help with that, which I can see. There are four of us benefiting from the lessons but the focus is on son. That is good. We will practice what we learned. Today, he brought a chess clock, which means you take your turn and then hit the clock so yours stops and the other guy’s starts. That is too much for nine year old. He spent the whole time staring at the clock. He would make random moves and never watched what his opponent did, just focused on the clock. Teacher says that is why they practice with it, so it is not the center of the universe during a match.

  31. Mumsee, we never played with a clock, and our games were informal. It will be exciting for you all if he is really good at it.

    Kim, I am still guessing about my husband’s reason and further pondering on the subject made me think that the winning and losing with others could be an issue. My husband was quite an intellectual when younger. Maybe he was afraid he would hurt feelings if he always won, or perhaps he would have felt really badly if he lost since expectations would have been high that he would win. Of course, I am the least smart of the fellows, husband, son, and brother, so I am generally expected to lose. It’s quite a surprise when I win. It happens just enough to keep people humble.

  33. Annms, that name, Black Walnut Cafe, is very inviting. My dad always loved to find a black walnut tree and pick up the nuts when they dropped. Do they have a tree by their shop? Do they have specialties made with black walnuts?

Snow snow snow snow snow….yep…..about 5 inches of measurable stuff…it is wet and heavy…but it has been just wet on the roads….slushy with the potential of hydroplaning on the interstate as I drove in to work today….it is so beautiful…but I am so over this stuff…just give me liquid sunshine…not frozen! 🙂 Getting more tomorrow, Sunday and Monday…I’m looking forward to flying back home to Ohio next Friday…I hope they are having a good old fashion Spring…you know with flowers like Janice’s (they are beautiful by the way! )

  40. Pete, I don’t have a landline, and I’ve still gotten an awful lot of pollster and political people calling. Of course, at least some are for local offices (judge and the like), and I haven’t always kept them on the line long enough to know who or what they are.
