  1. Weirdest political season ever.

As for a unified party, I rather doubt that’s even possible, at least from where things sit right now — no matter who is the nominee.

Ted Cruz and John Kasich have begun coordinating their campaign strategy to stop Donald Trump, an abrupt alliance announced Sunday night that includes Kasich quitting his efforts in Indiana and Cruz clearing a path for the Ohio governor in Oregon and New Mexico.

“To ensure that we nominate a Republican who can unify the Republican Party and win in November, our campaign will focus its time and resources in Indiana and in turn clear the path for Gov. Kasich to compete in Oregon and New Mexico, and we would hope that allies of both campaigns would follow our lead,” Cruz campaign manager Jeff Roe said in a statement.

Trump fired back late Sunday on Twitter, writing, “Wow, just announced that Lyin’ Ted and Kasich are going to collude in order to keep me from getting the Republican nomination. DESPERATION!”

He added, for good measure: “Lyin’ Ted and Kasich are mathematically dead and totally desperate. Their donors & special interest groups are not happy with them. Sad!” …

  2. I suppose it was just a matter of time before they got around to this micro-aggression…..

“The Oklahoma University student government rejected a resolution Tuesday congratulating the school’s sports teams amid concerns that the traditional “Boomer Sooner” salute is offensive to Indigenous students.

According to OU Daily, the Student Government Association’s Undergraduate Student Congress voted 13-20-1 against the resolution, with some opponents also citing concerns that the measure would constitute favoritism for sports teams over other student groups on campus.

“[T]he terms ‘Boomer’ and ‘Sooner’ are inextricably tied to colonization and land theft in this state…”

“The Undergraduate Student Congress would like to congratulate all OU student-athletes for their success this year and thank them for representing the university and the OU student body well in their competitions,” the resolution states. If passed, copies would have been sent to 19 varsity teams and 13 club teams along with a statement saying “Boomer Sooner” in recognition of their accomplishments.”

  3. And as always, dissent will not be tolerated in today’s “institutions of higher learning”.

    http://dailycaller.com/2016/04/24/harvard-administrators-may-have-investigated-conservative-students/

“Student activists at Harvard Law School (HLS) attempted to use the FBI to track a blog critical of them, while school administrators tried to find the identities of its authors, according to recently leaked emails.

In recent months, activists have formed a group dubbed Royall Must Fall, which has campaigned for a variety of changes at HLS, most notably the removal of the school’s historic seal, which is based on the coat of arms of a slave-owning family. Driving the success behind the seal’s removal was an alleged “hate crime” that occurred in November, when students found black tape covering portraits of black HLS faculty.

Soon after the tape incident, an anonymous blog titled Royall Asses popped up. The blog attacked the Royall Must Fall movement, argued the black tape incident was a false flag hoax, and in particular went after three members (Mawuse H. Vormawor, Alexander J. Clayborne, and Brian Klosterboer) it said may have conspired to perpetrate the hoax. The three students were dubbed the “Royall Asses,” hence the name of the blog. Later, a fourth student, Derecka Purnell, was added as well.”

“But the blog definitely attracted the attention of Royall Must Fall. So much so, in fact, that they got Harvard to investigate them, and considered trying to bring in the FBI as well.”

  4. Re. Boomer Sooner… if those terms are now taboo, we should also erase President Lincoln from the history books:
“The origins of Oklahoma’s nickname stretch back to the Civil War era. The Homestead Act of 1862, signed by President Abraham Lincoln, provided that a legal settler could claim 160 acres of public land, and those who lived on and improved the claim for five years could receive title.”

Then we should shut down the railroads:
“The Boomer Movement gained new momentum in 1886 and 1887 when the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway constructed a line that ran right through the Unassigned Lands. Rail stations at Guthrie, Edmond, Oklahoma (City), Verbeck (Moore), and Norman, created when the line was built, offered high potential for townsites.”

President Harrison should be struck from the records as well:
“At this time political pressure was exerted to open up the Unassigned Lands to settlement. In 1889 an amendment to the Indian Appropriations Bill allowed President Benjamin Harrison to proclaim the Unassigned Lands open for settlement.”

    Where will it stop?

  5. Well that was fast

    http://www.politico.com/story/2016/04/ted-cruz-john-kasich-pact-strain-222400

The alliance between Ted Cruz and John Kasich got off to a rocky start on Monday, with the Ohio governor immediately undermining the pact and Cruz getting assailed by tough questions as he tried to pitch the deal as the best way to deny Donald Trump the GOP nomination.

Trump was all too happy to pounce.

At a rally in Warwick, Rhode Island, Trump unloaded on his remaining rivals, slamming Cruz for his lack of achievements as senator and Kasich for being stubborn and being a “disgusting” eater.

“All he is is a guy that will go down and stand and filibuster for a day or two, and the other senators all look, ‘When is he getting off the floor, Jim?’” Trump shouted, talking about Cruz. “’Guy’s a pain in the ass. When’s he getting off the floor?’” …

… The pact entails the Ohio governor ceding Indiana’s May 3 primary to his Texan rival while Cruz stands down in New Mexico and Oregon. The math roughly works: Both New Mexico and Oregon award their 24 and 28 delegates proportionally, on June 7 and May 17, respectively, while Indiana’s 57 delegates are winner-take-all by district and statewide.

But it also plays right into Trump’s narrative and he immediately blasted his opponents’ “collusion” to underscore his core argument: The Republican establishment is corrupt and is rigging the system against the will of the voters.

It didn’t help that Kasich doesn’t seem fully on board. …

  6. I just read Saturday’s”News and Politics.” I am still amazed that no one mentions the $15 an hour wage hike and what it does to/for seniors on fixed incomes and those with significant savings.
For about 30 years we put $300 a month into an annuity, now about $175,000. So our buying power will be cut by about 1/3. And do your suppose we will get a 50% Cost of Living raise?
