A dear friend is losing her mother to Parkinson’s, a long slow process, and she’s worried that in caring for her mother, her father will go down, too. He plucks along and is in good health, but last winter took a major toll and the situation is getting more difficult with hard decisions to be made.
She travels 2000 miles to help again next week, but in the meantime her only child has turned up with a very serious health crisis. My friend is pulled in two extremes between the people she loves most in the world.
A long-time believer, these personal challenges are coming after years of other difficulties. I’m praying, of course, and trying to minister from afar. If you could mention Michelle’s friend, God knows who she is–and knows far more about her circumstances and heart than I do.
I’d like to thank you, too, for praying for me the last couple weeks. These have been difficult days as I weighed many writing concerns. I finally made my decision and late last night my agent forwarded an email from the editor I chose.
She was just checking in–replies go out today–and telling my agent she was praying for my decision.
Just confirms I made the right one.
I’m humbled and thankful and really hoping I can now settle down to do the actual work!
Michelle, I recently read this in a book.
“If they tell me they want to be a writer they will fail. If they tell me they want to write; chances are good they will succeed”.
Kim, I had a writer (and fellow editor) friend who said that whenever she gets asked, “Do you enjoy writing?” she answered “I enjoy having written.” One of her books was a best-seller and an award winner; she was very good at what she did, but didn’t necessarily enjoy the writing process. She found it satisfying afterward, but not enjoyable.
Me, I enjoy the writing process, even the times I get back up at 3:00 in the morning because my brain will not let me sleep until I write down the material I’ve been processing. But every writer is different.
