It’s Wednesday, so don’t forget to pray for The Gambia, and for Ajisuun as well.
Anyone else?
Psalm 93
¹The Lord reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is established, that it cannot be moved.
2 Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.
3 The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves.
4 The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.
5 Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O Lord, for ever.
The Gambian team has had two families resign this year. As I’ve mentioned before, single women are the backbone of the team, and it is so discouraging for them when they lose a family, never mind two.
Co-worker who was worried about the after-affects of her minor eye surgery was told she had a rare reaction to the laser and was giving some antibiotic cream — but basically, nothing to be overly worried about.
I’d taken her to her follow-up doctor’s appt yesterday afternoon and when I got back to work my editor says “We got raises while you were gone.”
“Oh stop,” I told him.
“No. Really,” he said.
“Nah, what’s the joke?”
We haven’t had so much as a cost of living raise in 8 years — only the infamous 5.5% pay cut that was never restored.
But, lo and behold, everyone is getting a 3% raise. Could have knocked me over with a feather.
While everyone was pleased, the reaction generally was muted following what’s been such a long, brutal period, pay-wise. I mean, technically we’re all still making less than we were 8 years ago.
But still. It was a pleasant and unexpected surprise.
I prayed for Chas and Elvera this morning, as I was chopping the onions for my breakfast. And Rkessler as I was chopping the peppers. And Michelle with the cabbage. It went on through the celery and cranberries and garlic and rosemary. And then the eggs….
The benefit for Luke, the boy with the rare, aggressive cancer, was even bigger than expected. Some of the money will go to others in the parish who have cancer. The grandparents were very grateful and gratified with the turnout.
We listened to this boy speak (recorded). He had already endured losing part of his intestine and stomach. He had some light chemo, but today starts some strong enough to kill adults. He said he was grateful for life in spite of his pain. He said he knows God is some how doing what is best. He wants to help children with cancer when he grows up.
Help!!!! I cannot find my W-2 and 1099 Statements. We are getting our taxes done tomorrow and I started to gather everything up and can’t find these!!!! I am panicked. Of course I know that I can get copies, but that is a big pain. I would rather find these.
Mr. P is bad about leaving piles of paper around, especially when he pays bills. I am bad about running behind him and putting it all in a basket until I can get him to sort through it. Somehow they have gotten put in a very safe place….I just need to know where that safe place is right now.
A few weeks ago, I wrote that we feared that Forrest’s hearing had been damaged by a bad ear infection he’d had, & his hearing test at the pediatrician’s office had shown some hearing loss.
Dr. E put him on a nasal spray for a few weeks to clear out any further mucous in his sinuses, which could have been the cause of the (hopefully temporary) hearing loss.
Today was his follow-up appointment. His hearing is back to normal! Thank you for your prayers.
I was going to report a praise when I came here, but my daughter just went and got the mail, and now I have two praises and one prayer request. 🙂
Praise #1 — in the mailbox yesterday, I found, among other things, an envelope with my husband’s and my first names penciled on it. No last name, no address, no postage, just set in our box. I opened up the envelope, and inside was a note card (with a pretty picture of goldfinches at a bird feeder — a little detail I’m providing especially for Cheryl’s reading interest 😉 ).
Anyway, the card was from our former neighbor whose son, daughter-in-law and their family live in the house now where she had lived years ago. The note read, “You are the greatest neighbors! [My husband is mainly the one who helps the family out when needed.] Enjoy some groceries during this time of need.”
Enclosed were two gift cards to a grocery store she knows we shop at, because I’ve run into her there on previous occasions.
Two gift cards…for $100 each.
What a gift! God’s timing is perfect. The last workman’s comp check we got was about half of the previous ones, and when my husband returns to full-time work next week (we hope), there will be a lag time between his restarting full-time work and getting his usual-size checks. So getting extra grocery money at a time like this is a huge blessing! Praise God for His provision through generous (former) neighbors!
And in today’s mail… a letter and a check from the family of my piano student who quit last month. Truthfully, I did not expect to hear from them again, much less get that last check…”oh ye of little faith…”
Praising God for this financial provision, too!
My request is for wisdom in how to respond to the letter. There were misunderstandings on both parts — the student’s father’s, and on mine — and his most recent letter clarifies quite a bit, in what I would say is a gracious manner. I want to respond in kind, and have things end on a positive note. He has apologized for his part in the misunderstanding, and I need to do the same for my own.
Your prayers for wisdom as I wrap this up are much appreciated. Thanks, all.

As you can imagine it was bitter/sweet.

Thank you for praying with me, cabbages and all . . . 🙂 Today, so far, is much better than yesterday!
