    I have finished the school program for my two students that will be in the village for a month with their translator parents and it is bagged and ready for an Aviation pickup. I also finished another school program for the student that I haven’t met who will be attending the Pacific Orientation Course with his parents. Now to prepare the classroom.

  5. 😦 A guy on TV is telling Elvera that if she sends him $50/month, she will receive “Blessing upon blessing, upon blessing.”
    I told her “Do not send him any money.”
    I once heard R.G. Letourneau tell how he started out giving 10% to God, now gives 90%.
    I said I know people who tithed all their lives and never did get rich.
    As most would count wealth.

  9. We are not far enough into the morning for him to be unhappy with us yet. He and Grandpa are watching Cars together and I am chasing Monkey Girl who is way too smart about how the baby gates work and the reason Mommy had to bungee cord the kitchen chairs around the table. 😉

Chas- I remember once talking about such a “ministry” with a group of friends and one guy reading the junk mail promising that if you sent them $10 God would give you $100, or some such outrageous play on people’s greed. One guy said, “If the preacher believes that, why doesn’t he send $10 to everyone on his mailing list so God would give him back ten times what he sent out?” Good idea.

  11. I haven’t figured out all the code names here yet. Thanks to “deleted”, whoever you are, for the chronological video of Snape scenes yesterday. I knew only pieces of some of the stories; that was a good orientation.

    Why do some people have code names here, anyway?

  15. Good point Kevin. When I see that my mane isn’t coming up. I say in the text that it’s “Chas” It takes almost no effort to identify myself.
    You’re right Peter. I forgot, but I had something else on my mind when I came here.
    I believe the “wealth and prosperity” ministries do great harm.
    Are the Christians in Iraq and Syria not faithful. Maybe they should send some money to the TV preacher. ISIS would go away.

  16. An observation this morning causing me to go “hmmm” why is that? When I first arrive there are multiple groups of men…all having Bible Study and or discipleship times one on one…it is very quiet in here, you hear only low sounds of conversation. Now around 8 the groups of women begin trickling in….it is loud in here….is it due to the pitch of a woman’s voice, is it due to women having more animated fun? I guess I am more sensitive to it this morning after having lunch with Paul yesterday. Yesterday at the restaurant there was a group of 10 or so women sitting across the restaurant from us….they were loud…the entire hour or so we were there….men were sitting around us and they were quiet in their conversations….why is that?

  18. code names come up when we are on another computer & just don’t “officially” log on with the blog (as in you didn’t save your log in info on that particular computer and wouldn’t be able to remember it with the password anyway).

    But mine’s always the same, as is michelle’s, so the anonymous “code” only stretches so far.

The birds: the top was is a junco, probably a female (we have more males than females since they spend the winter in slightly different places); this species used to be called the slate-colored junco (I think that’s what it was) but is now considered just a color phase of the dark-eyed junco, which has several distinctly different types of birds within it. The junco is otherwise known as the snowbird. It mostly feeds on the ground, in flocks. The bird feeders can be full of seed, but it won’t go to the feeder unless it absolutely cannot find anything on the ground. My husband sprinkles seed on the ground for them.

    The next two were taken a few weeks ago, maybe in November. The blue jay should be familiar to everyone. That day the lighting was hitting its feathers in such a way to really show off the color.

    The bottom bird is a tufted titmouse. I’m not sure why it is called a tufted titmouse, since there are several species of titmice but as far as I know they all have tufts, but that is its name, and it’s one of the cutest birds in the tree. As you can see it has huge eyes, and it has a crest that usually is only on larger species. It has duct-tape gray legs and feet, and it will grab a seed from the feeder and take it to a branch, where it holds the seed between its feet and pecks at it. All winter long it comes to the tree in pairs, though this year we are consistently getting three at a time, so I’m assuming the third is a young that they raised but that is continuing to hang out with them a little longer. (That isn’t uncommon among birds that one or two youngsters will do that.)

Donna, I actually thought you were using the “guess who” as kind of a code, when you were posting about political stuff that you wouldn’t want traced to you by your newspaper readers or co-workers . . . that you figured those of us who are regulars would figure out who you were, but anyone who stumbled on this site would not.

  22. Deleted is me on the IPad. I didn’t choose that moniker, it’s the one Apple decided I should have in cahoots with WordPress.

    At this stage in my relationship with Apple, I’m just thankful they spell deleted correctly–though now I’m wondering if it’s a deliberately mangled version of another word.

    Hmm, I wonder what it meant to nickname me? Debated? Beloved?

    Could be anything.

    My friends call me Michelle, as does the real computer, and I’m glad you enjoyed the Snape retrospective. I wonder if watching that would give Karen’s friend the insight she lacks?

    My own favorite scene is when Snape shoves the boys faces toward their table for talking in class . . .

  29. My grandson once won one of those puzzles, Janice. The shopkeeper was quite impressed that he completed it in such a short time. Those are difficult and I have never completed one myself. Not enough patience for that, I guess.

  34. We are back from stent removal. Oh, the things you learn and the places you go in the adventures of aging! In case anyone is interested in details, the stent removal is available in two options. One is removal as a hospital outpatient. We went with second option involving attaching a string to the stent so it can easily be removed in the doc’s office. Glad that is taken care of. A little bleeding is normal.

  37. On our honeymoon, Lee & I went to a very fancy, expensive French restaurant on Cape Cod. There was a group of obviously wealthy people there who were loud & obnoxious, talking about their latest yacht purchase & whatnot. It was mostly a couple men who were the loudest.

    It was the kind of place where one would expect quiet, polite conversation, & their loudness almost spoiled the experience for us.

    That was the first & last time we’ve been to a fancy French restaurant, but that’s okay with us. That’s not quite our style anyway. Give me a nice Cracker Barrel meal, or one at our local place, Basil’s, instead. 🙂

    I saw a commercial recently with an older couple at Burger King, wearing the cardboard crowns they have for children. I told Lee, “We’ve have to do that someday!”

  38. A while back I wrote about the new girl at Claire’s who twisted Emily’s words, & told the manager that Emily said she doesn’t care about her job (which is not what she said). That girl, Kara, was on a track to be trained to be the new assistant manager.

    Kara turned out to be a very unreliable employee, calling out sick, with various excuses, at least once a week, often more. The ladies who had the hours before hers would be nervous that she would call in, & they’d have to work her hours. (That happened to Emily at least a couple times.)

    Well, Kara has been canned. Until the manager hires someone new, guess who is the most reliable employee for weekdays? Yup, my Emily, who supposedly doesn’t care about her job. (I think the manager knows better now.)

    Unfortunately, that means she’ll be working more evenings for a while, & that means on those days, she’ll only see Forrest for the hour they spend in the morning getting ready for the school bus.

  40. There was a stabbing in the nearest town to my school, so here I am an hour and a half after we were supposed to leave. The Sheriff put us in lockdown. Now my students have left (drivers can go) but I have to stay until all the students leave.The life of a teacher.

  42. Oh what a day it has been. DIL is due to land at 6:30 or so. Grandpa is ready to go home! Little Boy is irritable and Big Boy is a pill. Mimi is a little sideways her own self. Mainly with the Big Boy.

Concerning obnoxiously loud people: I think, over the past fifty years, we have not taught people consideration of others, but have instilled the idea that whatever you have to say is the most important thing on the planet. Notice: the wriggling in church and talking during the sermon, chattering during presentations, interrupting the school teacher, etc. Girls learn to be loud in conversations at school so the boys and the ‘girls with no friends’, will notice them. It has carried over into adulthood and we have a nation of rude people. I have also noticed that men often take their actual deep conversations more seriously while women tend to talk for attention. Call me sexist. Guys can be just as loud and obnoxious, but they tend to be willing to tone it down when they are serious.

  46. I do Karen. It has been a long time since I heard the same question on a loop. I like a Mimi continued to answer it. Grandpa reached over, touched my hand, and told me to ignore him. What a concept!
    I have always said God gave me the ability to change a poopy diaper for a finite amount of time. I changed a nasty one on 1 year old, gagging and choking the whole way, but when I got 3 year old ready for bed and he had a poopy diaper (grandpa quit with the potty training) I call the Daddy. I bet if Daddy had to change many Master S would be potty trained.

  51. I made the bourbon chicken tonight. It didn’t taste like what the food court had, but I thought it was pretty good . . . and the two others who ate it both went back for seconds (in this house, people don’t often go back for seconds). Older daughter and her fiance were out, but when he dropped her off, I sent him home with a container. I served it with rice and broccoli. It has 14 ingredients in it (I didn’t have fresh ginger, so I substituted fresh, and I don’t like red pepper so I used powder instead of flakes, and less than the recipe called for, but otherwise I made it as the recipe said). It would have been even better if it had been the same flavor as at the food court, but it was good and my family thought so too.

  52. Home after a long day….I am exhausted.
    The men in at Panera were mostly in groups….there were a couple of tables with just two men…like the two sitting near me…I heard their conversation….I had my hearing aids in!….and it was definitely a discipleship time.
    The two women who were sitting in the booth behind me were very loud….and the group of women across the restaurant were loud as well…none of the men were.
    I have also noticed women on their phones while shopping….they are discussing personal matters and EVERYONE can hear….one customer spoke on her phone the entire time she was in our shoppe….she brought her items to the counter, continued to talk on her phone….when I had her total, she didn’t even allow me to tell her the amount…she just threw her credit card at me…I handed it back when the transaction was complete….she signed her receipt…grabbed her bag and left the store….still talking on her phone…..rude I’m telling you..just plain rude.

  53. Yeah, Frustrating. At least this is a 3 day weekend, so the extra two hours aren’t so bad. And at least I only had one senior instead 25 immature Freshman like the poor English teacher down the hall. We were told to keep the students in the room until further notice. It was an hour before we could let them out to use the restroom.

    We don’t get the “three-day” weekend (or any 3-day weekends, really), but I’m taking Monday off as my work “anniversary” day off so I’ll actually get one of those this time around.

    But it’s a busy weekend for me, errands to do tomorrow (having to beg out of visiting Carol) and baby shower to go to Sunday after church for my friend’s daughter who’s expecting twin girls in March (long drive involved, though, at least an hour each way). Picked up the wrapping paper and ribbon tonight after work, the gift arrived from Target online last night (from their registry).
