Merry Christmas!!!

Today’s header is from Kare.

Luke 2:15-20

15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

  2. Merry Christmas all!!!! 🙂

Sorry I was a little late this morning. We stayed up late after our family left. We watched the timeless Christmas classic, Jurassic World. 😆

Now I’m waiting for the ladies to wake up.

  3. Our “politics” thread isn’t up yet, but I had to post this. It’s too importane.

The Washington Redskins finally drops offensive name

Dan Snyder, owner of the NFL Redskins, has announced that the team is dropping “Washington” from the team name, and it will henceforth be simply known as “The Redskins.”

It was reported that he finds the word ‘Washington’ imparts a negative image of poor leadership, mismanagement, corruption, cheating, lying, and graft, and is not a fitting role-model for young fans of football.

  4. Chuck has two pretty Christmas trees.
He has finally taken to artificial trees. For years, they had to be real trees.
    Chuck is big on tradition.
He gets it from his mother.

years ago, Chuck told his middle daughter, Mary. The “wild child”, “Mary, I hope someday, you get one just like you.
    I think she has
Graham is only three, but he is into everything. Adventurous. He makes his own way.
That can be a good trait if channeled correctly.
    It was in Mary.

  5. On the Microsoft homepage, there is a category “98 things money can’t buy”.
I started clicking. I got to #18 before I came to one that didn’t involve someone else. , “A satisfying nap”.:.
    Interesting. Seems everyone needs someone.

  6. I gave up on the CD burning about 12:30 and went to bed.

Where I didn’t fall asleep for quite a while.

And then was awoken at 5:51 by the cat into a freezing house.

Gave up trying to fall back to sleep at 6:50 and now have returned to CD burning–after a refresher course in how to do it care of Google!

    I’ll start cooking breakfast soon.

Merry Christmas to all and to all . . . a splendid day rejoicing in Jesus’ birth and God’s good favor to all of us.

  7. Merry Christmas, everyone!

We had a lovely evening at close friends last night with group pictionary, a planned, but impromptu for guests, Christmas play (we all played a part), carol singing, wonderful food and fun! Dave is our friend from high school, best man at our wedding and he married a wonderful woman and then they moved close to us and now we get together all the time! So grateful for wonderful friends like them and all of you!

  8. Husband appears to have developed a sinus infection for Christmas but is enjoying his time visiting the grown children and the almost grown. They will do Christmas celebrating tomorrow when third son arrives there on his birthday.

Meantime, we are enjoying Christmas here. Stockings have been opened and enjoyed. Chores are being done. Without the olders around to “impress” fourteen year old has really stepped up to the plate. Watching him blossom is worth Christmas apart.

And other fourteen year old? The one who has decided to be a witch? Well, I had thought she should not participate in something with which she does not agree but I did get her a gift or two, she can open them another day if it is too painful. And, since she did not return her stocking last year, I simply loaded mine for her. But told her not to take my stocking though she could take what was in it. She stood there for about five minutes. I finally asked what she needed. She said she was confused. She had set the stocking on my chair and had the stuff in her hands. I explained that she could set them on the table or in her room or whatever. She gave an oh of understanding and walked away. She is easily confused.

  9. Merry Christmas. Hubs received a popover pan as one of his Christmas presents, since somehow we have lost the one that belonged to his mother. Soon he will be making popovers and bacon.
We have opened our gifts. The best one I received was from Mr. P, it is a charm for my Pandora bracelet and is engraved with Mimi. BG gave me a cape that I had admired, and as far as I can tell she spent her own money.
It is going to be a good day.

  11. Merry Christmas!

Our older daughter had tears in her eyes twice. 🙂 Once, when her fiance gave her a hat she had admired at an event they attended (she didn’t know he went back and bought it). And again, when we gave her a painting her dad had done on the last vacation with her mom; she had told him she wanted the painting someday, but framing a painting well is expensive, and so it was waiting for a special time. So this was a late college graduation gift, knowing that she will also need something for her walls when she marries in the spring.

I got lovely earrings from my husband (we picked them out together), a bunch of art-related books (photography, drawing), and several books that deal with some aspect of cultures coming together (Mennonites, a man raised by homosexual parents who is now a Christian pastor, etc.).

My husband mostly asked for theology books, but I also bought him art books. Our younger daughter asked for Spanish books. For our future son-in-law we bought a couple of items he asked for, but also a couple of gift cards to favorite restaurants. Our older daughter got stuff dealing with setting up a household (cookbooks, cooking supplies) and gift cards. But mostly it was just a nice sweet time of family.

  12. Kare, that tree ! Well done. Beautiful. Some of those ornaments remind me of our trees years ago. And I love the shiny-beaded garland. Such a pretty time of year with all the lights and decorations.

And driving home last night I was reminded again of how (unusually) quiet it is late at night on Christmas Eve. Even the Hollywood Freeway was pretty clear sailing. And when I got to our port town, I drove up the main historical downtown section and no one was to be seen (well, except for the homeless 😦 ). There’s a mission nearby and a county-run cold-weather shelter in the city across the harbor, so I’m not sure if some just choose not to go in or what — but it’s been very cold and I can’t imagine sleeping outside in that.

A former co-worker (Muslim, he was our business writer until he decided to open his own restaurant business with his wife) texted me last night saying they were closing down their restaurant for the holidays and wanted to know where he could donate some of the fresh fruits and other foods that won’t keep until they re-open in January, he wondered if my church or another place could use it in ministry work feeding people. I suggested a couple homeless shelters in our area. Very nice gesture. 🙂

  13. Strange sight last night on Hollywood Boulevard next to the Scientology outpost (there are numerous Scientology buildings in the area, which is the cult’s home turf, including the large, historic “celebrity center” a couple doors down from Carol’s residence — this one is smaller but older, probably one of their original office/recruiting spaces; I remember when I worked near there — my bank was across the street also on Hollywood Blvd — they’d always be out on the sidewalk in front trying to push their literature on passersby).

Anyway, last night I saw where they’d set up, on a vacant lot next door, a virtual winter wonderland with a giant blue-lighted tree, a children’s area with rides and games … And the entry sign arching over the whole very-dazzling space had a giant, lighted quote by L. Ron Hubbard. Very eye-catching, and entirely creepy. The tree was gorgeous.

  14. Ahummmm.
I hereby declare that Kare has the prettiest trees I have seen this year. That includes the fancy smancy professionally decorated trees that Janice sent (although they WERE pretty), the ones I saw at the Grand Hotel, and mine. ( I have tried those beads before and have never been able to make them look right).

I would be happier if my new Kindle would recognize the network password to the house. 😉

  15. I attended the early (family) Christmas Eve service at Hollywood Presbyterian with Carol last night, what a gorgeous church (built in the 1920s). I’d never been inside before — very dark wood with the traditional high perched pulpit and pipe organ and a full balcony that stretched all the way around above us (and where the children’s choirs sang last night).

The church was packed, they put on the usual Christmas pageant with a young couple and their very good, very cute baby in the starring roles. Lots of good-looking & talented people there, the church includes many industry types, but I wouldn’t recognize many (present-day) actors or actresses anymore.

The very striking, gothic-style Hollywood Methodist church a few blocks away on Carol’s street (where “Abby” from ncis attends) looked like they also had a couple Christmas Eve services scheduled that night as we passed by.

Interesting to see these giant Christian edifices in Hollywood, most built in the 1920s or thereabouts. Christianity was the norm in those days, even in Hollywood. But the churches are still standing. Hollywood Pres has carved out a niche as being one of the more evangelical hubs in the area, even though it remains (uncomfortably, I suspect) within the mainline denomination. It also was Zamperini’s church of many years, of course, he taught SS there — and it was where his memorial service was held.

  16. Thank you for all the compliments on my tree(s). I love Christmas trees and enjoy seeing all the ones on here – I tend to be sentimental (but seemingly only at Christmas) which is why my tree has such a variety or ornaments. And it’s also why I have several other trees – one I call my Auntie Marie/Auntie Annie tree with their crocheted ornaments and ‘pearl’ necklaces that I inherited.

  17. Kim, the silver bead garland works best on a natural tree that hasn’t been groomed to be a Christmas tree – more room for it to drape nicely, although I have one awkward branch where the garland looks funny (I just didn’t photograph that part) 🙂

  18. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader required 6 CDs! The final one is burning now and then we’re off!

You’ll be amused to hear my husband bought me a near-silent food processor for Christmas–yikes, an appliance!– which we’ve already put to use. Further adventures await, but I’ve got a party to attend!

    A blessed day for all.

  19. Merry Christmas to one and all!

I managed to finish all my sewing projects in time to give them as gifts. I took a picture before I wrapped them which I’ll send to The Real. They were a success. Eldest niece won’t take off the hat I made 🙂 Third nephew, who is eight, proudly played the piano when we sang “Hark the Herald Angels Sing”, while eldest nephew read the Christmas story with good expression.

  20. The 5 adults and 2 children had a great time at our Christmas dinner which had some American food and some Brazilian food. We exchanged white elephant gifts and sang some Christmas carols together. A good time was had by all and all ate too much in good Christmas tradition!

  21. Posted on the prayer thread earlier. .

Please pray for Chrissy’s eyes to be open to see the dysfunction in the McK family. (Of course, most of all that her eyes – & Emily’s eyes – be open to see the truth about Jesus.) And that her heart would turn back to her own family.

When I get around to catching up on other comments on the daily thread, I’ll write about why I’m asking this. Thank you.

Well, since I’m not sure I’ll catch up this evening, I might as well jump in now.

As you may remember, Chrissy is included with all the McK’s family activities, & last year we made sure to have Christmas dinner early enough because they would be picking her up “no later than 3:00”. (They ended up picking her up at 4:30, as they were still decorating cookies. I’ve mentioned their chronic lateness before.)

This year, they were going to pick her up “sometime” late afternoon, for a 6:00 celebration at a cousin’s house about half an hour away.

I have no idea what happened, but when Lee asked Chrissy when they would be picking her up, she blurted out in an upset manner, “I don’t know what’s going on!” It is now past 9:30, & it looks like she won’t be going with them.

Did they change their plans? Did they exclude her? I don’t know, but I’ll ask her tomorrow when she is rested, & not likely to get too upset by the question.

Sadly, we believe she is probably not happy about being here with us instead of at their house with them.

I wish & pray that she would “see through” them, so to speak. (Remember YF is the older sister in the family, & Chrissy looks up to her quite a bit. She doesn’t seem to see the irrational, nasty side of this young woman.)

  22. Oy. No.

But I did get all the wrapping paper and ribbon put away today.

And I’m kind of glad I don’t have any lights, tree or other decorations to take down this year (other than the front door wreath & a vase with evergreen & holly sprigs on the table).

  23. Merry Christmas to all!
And to all a Good Night.

We’ve been hither and yon the last few days, but obviously not here. See you in the morning. I’ll post the “Friday Funnies” on Saturday, since I wasn’t around this morning. (And since the trash haulers can delay pick one day for a Holiday, so can I delay the funnies.)

  24. OK, you Day – After – Christmas shoppers…on your mark, get ready, get set, GO!
But no punching out those who snag what you wanted.

As for me and my house, our shopping needs are already met and we are content with two shutoff valves to the leaking bathroom sink!

  25. Karen, I am sorry to hear that about the McK family. It sounds so not right. Prayers for wisdom, insight, and a supernatural God size intervention with the whole situation.May Chrissy fall under the care and authority of Almighty God rather than under the thoughtless care of the McK family. I pray she will see her needs to be much greater than what the McK family can provide and that she will finally look wholeheartedly to God her Creator and Providence.
