It’s Week 12 in the Pigskin Picks. Most teams are down to their last chance to get a big bowl bid. Otherwise, it’s playing for pride only in a “No One Has Ever Heard of or Cares About It” Bowl. Do you know there are 40 bowl games now? And only four teams get a playoff bid. Money. That’s the reason. But I digress.
This week features games with teams that on paper are evenly matched, or nearly so. Some of these are rivalry games, some will decide which teams go to conference championship games. It should be a challenge for the teams on the filed. And a real challenge to us amateurs trying to pick winners. Have fun, folks!
And get those picks in by Friday @ 8:00 p.m. EST, as the first game is at that time.

Yes, Tychicus. Think of it as a prelude to a final exam. (I am a teacher, after all.)
South Florida – only because of home field.
Memphis – because they want to make up for two losses in a row
Ole Miss (7-3) – LSU hasn’t been as good this year. I see an upset here.
Wisconsin – Again, home field.
Mizzou – RAH!
Arizona – ASU is hard to beat, but even if Arizona were 0-10 I would not pick Sun Devils.
Oregon – The Beavers have been embarrassed too often this season to lose another big game.
Oklahoma State – home field. And the Cowboys have something going. And I forgto to include their ranking: #6!
Oklahoma – I can see the two Oklahoma teams being in the playoffs.
Tie Breaker: Ohio State 24-21

Thank you, Tychicus, though that is a bit disappointing. One could hope they seceded to Oregon, or Washington. or some place.

Yes, Ricky, these are hard. And I see I might win since I’m the only one to pick Mizzou over Tennessee. 😉 Otherwise, almost every game is evenly split in our choices.

Home field advantage worked for South Florida. Final score 65-27. It was 51-3 at the half. And for mumsee’s sake, Boise St lost to Air Force.

Upsets have upset a lot of us. And these were hard to pick. Of 7 games completed, 4 is the best anyone has done. Those are AJ, Tychicus and IBNO. Of those, only AJ and IBnO correctly picked Michigan State to upset Ohio State. The score was a Chas reasonable score of 17-14. AJ is closer to that than IBNO by 4 points. Let’s see how the evening game go.

I pretty much knew I’d lost by 3 pm. But it was worth it for Ohio to go down. 🙂

Well, kbells. How does being tied for 2nd with 4 others? You, Tychicus, Janice, IBNO and Ricky got 6. AJ wins with 7 correct. The others of us? Chas, Mumsee and I got 4 correct. It was a hard week. Maybe I’ll pick easier ones for Thanksgiving weekend. Maybe.
AJ- What’s our tie breaker going to be?
Game results:
SFU 65 – Cincinnati 27
Temple 31 – Memphis 12
Ole Miss 38 – LSU 17
NW 13 – Wisc 7
Tenn 19 – Mizzou 8 (A big disappointment for Tiger fans who wanted to see Coach Gary Pinkle’s last home game be a W. He is resigning because he has cancer.)
Ariz St 52 – Ariz 37 (A big disappointment to Wildcat fans. The rest of the season doesn’t matter if they lose to the Sun Devils.)
Ore 48 – USC 28
Baylor 45 – OSU 35
OU 30 – TCU 29
Mich St 17 – OSU 14

At least I learned not to participate in one of those gambling games.
The last time The Citadel beat S. Carolina was in 1990.
Before Saturday, that is.
