Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks “15-Week 6

It’s time once again for that foray into futility for some, or that venture into victory for others. Peter’s Pickled Pigskin Picks is back. Some big games are on tap, and some that seem like they’ll be easy to pick. It’s the Red River Rivalry game weekend. Remember when it mattered? It still does along the Texas-Oklahoma border. There is also the traditional Navy vs. Notre Dame rivalry. This year should prove interesting since Navy is undefeated, but has to go to South Bend to play a team that got embarrassed last week down South. The Pillow Fight is here, along with a contest from the SEC East (even though the game is on the Mid West) for the tie breaker. Have at it!

  1. #10 Oklahoma @ Texas – Remember when this was a game between two great teams?

  1. Arkansas @ #8 Alabama – Alabama needs it’s ‘A’ game if it wants to be considered a champion again.

  1. #25 Boise State @ Colorado State – Broncos and Rams. I remember when CSU was an also ran in the old Western Athletic Conference. Now it is an also ran in another conference.

  1. Duke @  Army – Can Army make something of this season?

    5.   Navy @ #15 Notre Dame – See above.

  1. #13 Northwestern @ #18 Michigan – Remember when Northwestern was the floor mat of the Big 10? Times have changed.

  1. Oregon State @ Arizona – Arizona needs this one after two humiliating losses to California teams.

  1. #23 Cal @  #5 Utah – I remember when Utah was a door mat in the old WAC with CSU. Times have changed.

  1. Pillow Fight: UConn (2-3) @ Central Florida (0-5) – Huskies in Florida. Not what I think of when I think of warm climates.

     10. Tie Breaker (pick winner and score): #11 Florida @  Mizzou – Tigers at home against a team that used to be great. I wonder if Mizzou has Gatorade on their sidelines?

Remember: Get those picks in before noon on Saturday, as that is when the action begins!

  1. I’ll submit later. Thanks for not including the Gamecocks this time. I couldn’t have voted against them. And they are playing LSU in Baton Rouge. They had to change venue because of the flood. SC Highway Patrol can’t spare the men to direct traffic, among other things.
This may be the first time that this has happened.

  2. If Misten can play I asked my cats to make some picks. They picked Missouri, Clemson and Auburn (you know, tigers) They said they don’t like Georgia, (dawgs) or Alabama (Cats don’t like water) I tried to tell that most of these teams are not on the list but you all know cats don’t listen.

  3. Actually they were in Peter’s email, I copied them same as last week, but they won’t show up. I don’t know what gives with it.

Oh well, we’ll try again next week.

  4. Bummer. I had this great post typed with “smash-mouth” comments, and thought I had copied it before refreshing the page in case another person posted. Oh well.

Here are my picks (sans comments):
    OU
    Bama
    Boise
    Duke
    Navy
    Michigan
    Arizona
    Utah
    UConn
    Mizzou-RAH 35-21

  5. Chas, I suppose if Misten wins, she’ll have the same problem with picking the tie-breaker next week as I would have. I am not even sure what teams play basketball from week to week until these things are posted.

  6. Here are some of the comments:
Is Mumsee saying Cheryl is a cheater, or is she admitting something about herself (although I don’t know how you can cheat in this game).

If Cheryl’s dog and kbell’s cats can participate, how about Chas getting his pet rock to enter?

Speaking of Cheryl (no, I am not picking on her), it looks like she thinks either Florida or Mizzou will only score a filed goal and a safety. It could happen.

  7. Oh, and concerning the logos: I think the problem is that I prepared the list at work and sent it to my home address, since I don’t have AJ’s email address ate school. Then I forwarded it to AJ. I guess the forwarded logos didn’t transfer. Live and learn.

  8. It looks like it will come down to the tie-breaker this week…

    OU
    ‘Bama
    BS
    Duke
    ND
    Michigan (tough call)
    Arizona
    Utah (another tough call)
    UConn
    Florida 24-13

  9. Miss Bosley learned the cliche, “Cats rule, and dogs drool.” She sticks by that in her predictions on games. But, if dogs drool enough then the field will be slippery giving dogs the advantage because of their weight. But then, cats have the ultimate in cleats so that can be the equalizing factor that makes for a good game.

  10. Texas is under a curse for taking down the statue of Jeff Davis. This week Bevo became deathly ill. I am reminded of what happened to the Philistines when they put the Ark of the Covenant in Dagon’s temple.

    Oklahoma
    Alabama
    BSU
    Duke
    ND
    Michigan
    Arizona
    Utah
    UCF
    Florida 20-10

  12. Well, Texas is my alma mater, but even I didn’t have the courage to pick the ‘Horns to upset Oklahoma. Congratulations to Chas (and Misten!) for making that call…

  13. Apparently, some of the UT frat boys must have put the statue back up. This is a rough day for Aggies. They have a bye week and Texas won.

  14. This is embarrassing in one way. Misten is tied with 4 of us right now, including me, behind two women and two men. The dog is ahead of 3 people, including Cheryl.

  15. Nine games are done. One to go. Tychicus, AJ and the newcomer, 6 Arrows, are tied with 8 games correct. I hereby declare Tychicus this week’s winner, since all three chose Utah to beat Cal in the remaining game. Regardless of the outcome of that game, Tychicus has the closer tie breaker score of the three at 13. Congrats, Tychicus.

But you know what’s interesting? The dog got within 6 points of the tie breaker!

  16. Mumsee- Texas and Oklahoma area as interchangeable as Ohio, Iowa and Idaho. My MIL saw a t-shirt that said “University of Ohio, Iowa City, Idaho”. Believe it or not, there are people who confuse those three states. It seems it’s mostly people from the Northeast who forget there are a lot of states to the West.
