  1. Good Morning Everyone. I didn’t get the big project finished yesterday. He didn’t give me the properties until 12 one of the sites I needed to pull maps and aerials from was on the fritz. I was under pressure because I had a: appointment yesterday to get my hair done. He was none too happy that I didn’t cancel it to work on his project. He wasn’t even in the office yesterday and for some reason was unable to get on the internet. He wanted me to work on it last night, but he never responded to an email I sent asking a question about the information he wanted me to pull on a report.
He also was none too happy when I tole him I had an appointment to get my eyes examined this morning. He is having a meeting with the commercial agents this morning and my attendance isn’t required, so I thought I would slip out and get it done while he was occupied with something else. I explained I HAD to get this done because we are going into a weekend, I need new contacts, and I am 3 months over due on a yearly exam and they will not sell me anymore contacts without an eye exam.
I am one day closer to me goal. The receptionist asked me please not to leave her yesterday. I told her I had to go. She is worried he will want her to start doing some of the things I do for him. Three other admins at the company have refused to do work for him. He is good at what he does but is very demanding, but too cheap to pay someone. Whoever he hires next time needs to be well compensated and have a structured bonus plan tied to his commission.
I need to build my confidence back up. Right now I have none.

Thanks for “listening”. Perhaps soon I can entertain you with funny stories from another job. People can be very funny in the retail arena.

  2. IT”S FRIDAY!
    You know what that means.
Stick with it Kim. Just do your thing and you’ll be fine.
Some of my neighbors live in Florida and come here for the summer. They are about ready to abandon the mountains and head south again.
There is a guy at the Y who lives in Connecticut for the summer. He comes to Hendersonville for the winter. I guess it’s all in the perspective.

    There wa

  3. Roscuro re: your comment about your parents being baby boomers with a child your age- It’s not that uncommon, since the Baby Boom lasted until 1964. A lot of people think of boomers as late 40s to early 50s, but it was an 18 year boom. My wife and I are “second half” boomers with children your age and younger (the youngest will be 21 next week).

I remember when Trivial Pursuit came out with the Baby Boomer version. My MIL got one since two of her children and I were “boomers”. But she was the only one that could answer the TV and pop culture questions since they all had to do with TV shows and music from the early 50s, before any of us were born.

  4. Good morning from the waiting room at the doctor’s office. This is a followup visit from the ER visit. They always say to see your Primary Care doc but you never can see that doc unless you make an appt. well in advance. We had the choice of a nurse practictioner or a resident overseen by a full doc (doc pot luck).

  5. Peter, both my parents were born in the 1940s, so they were “first half” boomers. My father will be seventy next year. My mother did not have her first child until she was 31, and I’m the third.

Cheryl, I posted a reply to your final comment on yesterday’s thread.

  6. Wish I could go back to bed, but I had to get up early (6:30, early for me) to get the trash cans out at the curb for pickup. Now I need to watch last night’s harbor commission meeting on video, but at least I can do it from home. They said it should be posted by 9, so that gives me time to take a shower and feed the animals (Annie’s walking back and forth across the top of the sofa seat back, bumping my head as she goes, purring and meowing.)

  7. 😦 Hope all goes well, Janice. We always seem to have different doctors. The one I have now is terrible and someone I will drop next time I have to go to the clinic. I thought he would already be gone, but maybe it is only the good ones who leave. I don’t mean to disparage those who really are good, but it does get frustrating.

  8. We’ve just been seen by the resident, a young man who reminds us of our son. He was very thorough and this is good experience for his training. He is consulting with the overseeing doc and then we will get and overview check by that one. It is a good service to medicine to be seen by the residents. We did find out that our Primary Care doc is on vacation.

  9. I remember taking Carol to the urgent care clinic one night and the (very) young doctor who walked into the room had a mouth full of braces.

It was all I could do to keep from blurting out “How old ARE you?”

  10. Donna, I was smartest when I was 22. Then I went to Carolina and learned that I was pretty dumb. Then when I was 41, I realized that I there was really lots I didn’t know and went to school again.
Then, when I was 49, I tried it again.
    I never did get smart.
So, I quit when I as ahead. That was the smart move.

  11. Wow! Could that resident type quickly. Maybe he and Donna could have a contest. Husband and I discussed when our son did some computer keybord training and husband said he doubts there is any need for it these days since children begin learning keyboards in preschool now.

When we were at the Emergency Room a man came in barefoot with a bleeding cut on his heel. He was treated there in the waiting area and was asked where his shoes were. He said he’d had on flipflops and they were all bloody. I felt major concern from both angles when I saw him barefoot there.

Well, since we got back from the doc it is time to swap hats and become a shopper for discount meds again. My paycheck comes from savings 🙂

  12. I’ve been to the pharmacy twice today and came home empty handed both times. Getting meds can be so challenging!

My consolation was going around the corner to the Nearly New Shop (Jr.League) where the have t-shirts for a quarter. I found a Merril grey t-shirt with n orange lantern printed on the frony for son, a green Snoopy shirt with a cactus and Christmas lights that says Light ’em Up for husband, and a Dr. Pepper red t-shirt for myself. I also found a nice tank top for $1.25. Sweet consolation for my failure at the med olympics.

  13. Does anyone else see the irony in this? Today I got junk mail from an insurance company that represents the union I had to join. (I work in Illinois which is a “fair share” state- i.e. I have to pay union dues whether I join or not.) The junk mail had some stickers in it promoting the union. One said “My Union. My Right. MY CHOICE.” “My choice“???? Who are they kidding!

  14. Someone just came and built a place for burning trash for me. Oh, so nice. It will last forever. First he leveled the ground, then put down two slabs of concrete, then bricks in a U shape, then a grate then a concrete culvert. The wind blows through to get the fire going and the ashes fall down onto the slabs. You can shovel out the ashes for the garden.
Not something that I could have done myself. Another of those things that needed to get done and now it is done beautifully.
