  1. Another pretty mountain stream.
Talking about youth groups, as you were yesterday.
Our church, FBCHNC, has a special building, we call “The Crosswalk” where our youth meet.
Not only do they have classes there, but there is a basketball court, kitchen, game and TV room.
It isn’t just for our youth. We have a full time youth minister and volunteers to help youth with problems, homework, etc. It is a refuge of sorts to youth who have no other place to be.
It cost our church a lot of money and took valuable parking spaces, but it has been well worth it in that several kids with no church connections have trusted Jesus.

  2. Morning Chas. Glad to hear that your church is meeting so many needs.
My church also has staff members leading the youth. An elder was in charge of the junior high group for over thirty years. He and his wife cared for my children when they were hurting in a very special way.

  3. Seventy five years ago, Sept 15, 1940, one of, maybe the largest, certainly the most important air battle in history occurred over London.
Hitler was determined to eliminate the British RAF in order to invade England. Nearly 1500 aircraft were in a battle over London, and the RAF beat back the Luftwaffe. It didn’t end the air war, but it determined the final outcome.

Bunch of kids, they were, up there saving England.
    And western civilization.

  4. Good morning all! Fall is in the air in NM. Have been tied up with work and school. Hope Art and Mrs AJ are doing better. I have a cat to cut for a friend this morning. Then back to the grindstone.

  5. Art is frustrated that he is not feeling better. We had pharmacy issues again last night. We got a pharm discount of one med for first month free, $500.00+. Other med they did not get in as they had expected so we have a couple of days supply. The script was sent to the wrong pharmacy where we had issues before. Not the stress Art needs. Today is corporate tax deadline so this is another really bad year for him/us. And my brother is hanging by a thread to his employment having been given a mess of hoops to jump through that are near impossible.

  6. I have started reading a book called The Russia-China Axis by Douglas E. Schoen & Melik Kaylan. I am only in the Forward, but I don’t know that I will finish the book. I get agitated and fortunately I don’t have a blood pressure problem, because it would go into the red.

We are in trouble. Deep trouble.
Obama has led us there, and he intends to ruin the US and western civilization in the process. This is not due to incompetence. It is part of the Obama agenda.
I may not finish te book. It’s too heavy and I can’t do anything about it…

You should have elected me president in ’08 when you had the chance. 😆

No kidding! I know for a fact that I could have done a better job.
The Muslim Brotherhood would not be in the White House, for one thing.

  7. It’s raining here! Yay! And cooler, all the way down in the high 70s for now (though it’s still morning). The rain probably won’t last long, but it’s such a relief. Hopefully it was enough to clean off the Jeep a little bit, anyway.

I’m starting work late today, it’s Trump tonight but I’ve deferred to another reporter in our chain who, really, really wanted to cover the speech (I’m not a political reporter — he’s done more of that, apparently — and I also wasn’t sure I wanted the deadline & performance pressure of that assignment); but there will be a few of us out there anyway, writing “color” and about the protests.

Problem is, we never got any real clarification about our credentials (only that the paper is “in”) so we’re not sure how many staffers can get in or, if mine is the only actual name they have on file (I was the one arranging it all via email), whether I’ll be the only one they’ll allow (with a photographer, but maybe not?). Tried to get clarification yesterday but couldn’t — the organizers were apparently overwhelmed with requests.

So 3 reporters (including me) and a photographer are going to meet at noon (press check-in time is noon to 4, but it will be mobbed with media) in the Iowa parking lot and go from there. Whoever gets on the ship will have a long day out there, much of it just waiting for the event which doesn’t start until 5:30.

It’ll be a long day with lots of walking, lots of standing — just hope the temperatures stay mild, doing something like this in 95 degree temps would be awful. (And that metal ship gets HOT.)

  8. You don’t remember where you learned it, but you don’t forget either.
I was tying a tarp onto my truck for a trip to the landfilol. It suddenly occurred to me that I was using the “miller’s knot” that I learned as a tenderfoot scout.. 

I turned it off when started, but it occurred to me that I hate stupid husband commercials almost as much as the crying women ones.

  9. My daily commute humor. You know how you will see people with 26.2 or 13.1 stickers on their vehicle showing that they have run a marathon or half marathon. I got behind a guy who had 00.01 on his. I SOOOOO hope this means what I think it does.

  10. Mumsee- Yes, I saw the winnings. Yes, you beat some of us guys. But IBNO won so he gets to pick the next tie breaker. He chose the Florida State game. I’ll send the next list to AJ tonight. ANd yes, Boise State is on the list again.

  12. Okay, I usually don’t do this, but Awakening by Tracy Higley is free on Amazon today (Sep 15). Sorry I didn’t post this sooner, but I just checked email and found it. I read the book. It is an interesting mystery/fantasy. My review on AMazon is this:

Okay, so I am not one to read romance novels. But this one was a free read if I left an honest review. So, honestly, I have never read a book like it. Mrs. Higley weaves a tale that is both modern and ancient, intertwining the two throughout. There are wonderful descriptions of places many of us only dream of visiting. Overall it is well worth the time.

So if you see this before midnight and want a free read, go for it! (Higley is almost as good a writer as Michelle. And I wasn’t paid to say that.)

  13. the hours of contemplation and study, the organizing and reorganizing, the hours spent watching different teams in action, reviewing their records, following various players….luck? indeed!

  14. Jo- Mumsee just guesses, so it had to be luck.

Mumsee- I thought it was soap operas and bonbons that occupied what little spare time you get in the Nest.

  15. Whew. Done with Trump. Long day.

But something for everyone, chants, signs, protesters, fans …

Interesting as we stood in the credentialing line for a while with reporters from the Daily Mail & other international sites who have been trailing Trump for a while now.

  16. Ah, Ok, then, I found a “dog love” photo to post from church last week. 🙂

Felt a nudge on my shoulder before the service began — felt just like someone was tapping me — so I turned around and, lo and behold, a big DOG NOSE and shaggy face was looking at me up close.

Reba, the current dog being trained by a couple who are preparing dogs to help the disabled, was in pew right behind me.

    🙂

(And they’re actually hoping this one “flunks” so they can keep her.)
