  1. Good morning in the U.S.A. and good evening in P.N.G.

We have the fundraiser dinner tonight that I look forward to.

The tree with the yellow leaves is the Birthday Tree. It seems too early for the leaves to be changing color.

  2. They’re still writing about the plane that caught fire in Vegas.
In December of 1951, I was in a C-97 loaded with passengers in Prestwick, Scotland.
Our left outboard engine caught fire on take off.
We aborted take off and emptied the plane.
I never heard any more about it.
    I spent a week in Prestwick. :-).

  3. For all of you who admired the tree frog in yesterday’s photo, I had a tree frog on my bathroom mirror this morning at 6am. I got very little sleep last night. I think Mr. P started the coffee about 5 or so. I got my coffee and went to wash my face and get dressed. I looked in the mirror and noticed something. He crawled all over it and the light fixture. Finally he fell down on a jar and I tried to get him. He hopped into the sink and I was able to pick him up. I freed him out the front door. I really hope he doesn’t come back tomorrow morning.

  4. NancyJill, BG would have freaked out, Mr. P got little more sleep than I did, Lulabelle, Amos, and Moe are worthless. All the do is look good AND Amos and the cat were in bed with Mr. P. Lulabelle was in her bed. I was the only one awake and capable of dealing with it. It was the frog or grumpy, irritable people. I chose the frog. I used a tissue, so I really didn’t touch him.

  5. In Idaho we fall asleep to the sound of the coyotes howling, the Great Horned Owls hooting, the screech owls screeeching, the night hawks making their noise, the snipes whistling, the crickets, the frogs, the dogs, the cats, the chickens……and we wake up to the sound of the coyotes the owls the hawks the snipes, the dogs, the cats, the roosters….

  6. Up here we fall asleep to the coyotes howling, the loons calling, sometimes wolves howling and usually the neighbours dogs barking at all of the above 🙂 Oh and in spring – we have frogs, frogs, frogs!

  7. Here, in the summer, we fall asleep to the sound of cicadas, and sometimes the sounds of sirens since we are near a fire station and several hospitals, too, and of course, police sirens may be heard in the mix. Lately we’ve had the sound of rain, too.

  8. We hear the coyotes quite often, but no loons. Cows can be disturbingly loud sometimes. We do not always have them around us, however.

For some reason, tree frogs seem to be around us now. Maybe it is all the trees my husband planted. I accidently shut one in our window not long ago. Then there was one on the carpet. We were not sure how it got in until we saw several attached to the back door. Lots of moths, around the back light, attract them.

  9. We fall asleep to the sounds of coyotes and the ghetto bird circling, circling, circling …

We are still baking, it as not a restful night. But today is supposed to be this heat wave’s swan song before we get at least marginally cooler temperatures beginning Friday.

I think I got a speeding ticket. I was late to work this morning (since it was too hot to go to bed before midnight) and just as I was “quickly” exiting off the freeway I saw a cop point something at me.

Sigh. Guilty, I’ll admit. I’m toast.

  10. I haven’t been able to really tell you about last night. It was all good. The waitress was lousy, but the food was good. Everyone got along. I did think that it was inappropriate for G to kiss K every time he got up from the table. Especially since this was the first extended period of time BG spent in the company of the two of them. She got a HUGE diamond engagement ring. She also gave BG a Kate Spade wristlet which was nice.
Reason #12,685 to love Mr. P: He leaned over and whispered to me “Just call me Caitlyn”. I ruined it by backing up, looking at him crazy, and asking what in the world he was talking about. He said she looked mannish and had man hands. (True disclosure-I think she is rather pretty). As I told someone, I am not catty, but I sure do appreciate a certain degree of it in my husband. 😉 I told him I would take quality over quantity any day and I appreciate the history behind the rings I wear.

  11. Oh, right, I forgot about the fiancee info you’d posted a while back. Couldn’t figure out who got the gigantic engagement ring! 🙂 BG???? Yikes.

    OK, so that’s cleared up.

Are there speed limits in Idaho?

  12. Well, now it’s time for me to get my shower and there is a big booming thunderstorm. I know CA folks wouldn’t mind. Husband got ready while I washed dishes and now I can’t get my shower unless I go outside in the storm. Need to be where we are going around 6 p.m. it is maybe an hour away, but with rush hour and rain, who knows?

  13. Well, maybe. He may have just been scolding me after trying (unsuccessfully) to get around me (but he didn’t have lights on, I just all of a sudden saw him on my tail as I was exiting the fwy, but he continued on, pointing at me when I looked back at him — though it was with a speed gun).

    But maybe I escaped.

I thought they could nail you remotely these days. 🙂

  14. Of course there are speed limits in Idaho. And some people follow them. Locals tend to go under the speed limit and newcomers (Californians) and visitors tend to exceed them.

  15. Maybe he recognizes a famous reporter and let you go?

Did NOT fall asleep last night to the sound of the whirring fan after a scorching day. I think I finally fell asleep around 3 or so. Awful. I’ve been driving adorable granddaughter around all morning running errands and just got home. The good news is the car is air conditioned. The bad news? My office upstairs in the house, is not. 😦

Need to write a blog. See you in a bit. Please pray for Stargazer–phone interview in about 30 minutes–with Pandora! 🙂

  16. In Hendersonville, we go to sleep with the sound of the air conditioner or furnace clicking on and off, depending on the season.

I have always been suspicious of couples who exhibit overt affection in public. Makes me wonder if they do much in private.

  17. I forgot what he was illustrating, but our SS teacher gave this illustration last Sunday.
There was a man in Calgary (Alberta) who was driving along and the traffic camera flashed. He knew he wasn’t exceeding the speed limit. So he decided to test the camera. He went back, under the speed limit. The camera flashed. He did this four times and recorded his speed.
Some time later, he received the notices in the mail, as he expected.
He was fined four times for driving without a seat belt.
    He paid the fines.

  18. oh, no, I am having a bad hair day and today is school pictures!! Reminds me of 7th grade. I should of gotten a haircut, but kept remembering that my youngest likes my hair longer. Oh, well, can’t do much this late.
    Chas, can you relate???!

  19. While I have no reason to care about the public display I thought it was inconsiderate and tasteless considering it was the first time BG had been around them together. I cannot fault my ex husband on the father he became after our divorce and I have privately told him that if this woman makes him happy I wish him all the best. I have even told him not to let BG do to this relationship what she tried to do to the one Mr. P and I have. I am not one for a big display of emotion in public (although I did stand in the card aisle of Publix yesterday sobbing over birthday cards–but that is a different story).

  20. I’m being assured they have to stop you for speeding, my editor thinks he was trying to get by me and I didn’t move (and/or also was going too fast?) and he shook his hand? Speed gun? at me as a warning (or admonition)

  21. Michelle, my reporter status definitely didn’t help any when I tried to get out of the last speeding ticket (a lot of years ago, so don’t go shaming me).

I only speed when I have to.

Today’s story was on an infestation of Oriental fruit flies (except I don’t think we’re allowed to call them that anymore — Asian fruit flies?). So writing about maggots, etc. Fun.

Meanwhile, the fall out continues with Trump stories.

With the The Donald controversy, cops chasing me and swarms of flies (think Amityville Horror) landing in our town, you’d think it was the end times or something. I may join Chas in that pre-mil view if this keeps happening.

    The thing is, Jo.
You come to a point in life when it isn’t so important anymore.
I still wear a suit to church because that’s what I do.
I still get haircuts, but not every two weeks as when I was working.
    etc.
Elvera worries because her right ear bleeds when she puts in earrings. I tell he to forget about the ear bobs, they aren’t worth the pain, if it hurts.
When you reach 84, you shouldn’t have to worry abut such things.

Meanwhile, our crippling heat wave continues.

  24. I’m telling you, the sky is just about to fall out here …

LOS ANGELES — The threat of flash flooding and an excessive heat warning remained in force in mountain and valley areas of the Southland today, and more triple-digit temperatures were expected after a day when the region’s humidity-choked heat wave helped trigger thunderstorms, lightning strikes, mudslides and brush fires. “Maximum temperatures will reach dangerous levels across much of Southern California again” today, warned a National Weather Service statement.

  25. Chas, they’re engaged but not married, so semi-public displays of affection are better (not “in your face” public, but not private). I wouldn’t see anything wrong with a quick kiss on the lips in front of other people, but more than that does seem inappropriate.

“Are you drunk?” (reporter interviewing a city official on the phone)

  27. I go to sleep to the sound of my CPAP machine…

I spent the last 10 days in LA. I was sick every evening from the heat. I am so glad I got to come home while my wife goes down for her Canary club’s bird auction on Saturday.

    donna j, Guess Who,

Too bad this auction isn’t in your neighborhood, you could cover it. There will be some interesting characters there.
A former diamond merchant who didn’t sell anything smaller than 5 carats.
A former truck mechanic who won a Best in Show at the National Cage Bird Show..
A man who runs a maquiadora factory in Tijuana who won Best in Show in the All England bird show.
An Southern California Edison Company worker who is one of the the best color bred canary breeders in the USA. He also has won Best in Show several times at the National.
