Ir’s Friday, so please remember to pray for Mumsee, Mike, and the Nestlings.
Anyone else?
Psalm 90
¹Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.
2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
3 Thou turnest man to destruction; and sayest, Return, ye children of men.
4 For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.
5 Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: in the morning they are like grass which groweth up.
6 In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; in the evening it is cut down, and withereth.
7 For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.
8 Thou hast set our iniquities before thee, our secret sins in the light of thy countenance.
9 For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told.
10 The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.
11 Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath.
12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
13 Return, O Lord, how long? and let it repent thee concerning thy servants.
14 O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad according to the days wherein thou hast afflicted us, and the years wherein we have seen evil.
16 Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children.
17 And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.
Last night I asked you to pray for Mitch. His wife posted on Facebook early this morning that he is going into surgery around noon today. She said she had climbed in the hospital bed with him, just to hold him last night. They talked about how now they had to walk the talk. She asked for prayers for Mitch, for the doctors, nurses, and OR team as they operate. She asked for prayers for herself to face whatever is next and know that it is in God’s hands. The fear is that it is gleoblastomia (sp). A cancerous brain tumor.
What makes this especially noteworthy is that Wednesday night one of the Associate Pastors at First Baptist died. He had been fighting the same cancer for almost a year. A couple of years ago a woman in my church had it and 3 years ago a woman I grew up with died from it…all right here in this little town. I understand it is not common.
I have a young relative who I have brought up for prayer before. Kortni has had a heroin addiction and various troubles. One of her children was adopted by a sibling a few years ago. She has two more who may end up in foster care. The sibling and his wife are considering what they should do. They have two other children in addition to the one they adopted. Please pray for all involved.
Kim, a man in our church had that same kind of tumor. He wasn’t old (40-50ish) and had a family, everyone loved him. Tough diagnosis, tough year for them, it was heartbreaking. There’s not a lot they can do though there were therapies (it’s also the same kind of brain tumor that took Ted Kennedy’s life).
Praying that’s not what Mitch has — and for God’s grace and strength, either way.
Michelle, re your birds singing you awake, that’s the “dawn chorus,” and most birds don’t continue to sing all the way into late August. (Some birds do, cardinals and song sparrows for example.)
I 5hink that is the type brain tumor the daughter of a church member died of this year. It quickly progressed. Sad that although rare, it must not be as rare as it was. Makes one wonder if it could be from cell phone use?
Please forgive my rattled brain that is suffering from all the racket in the neighborhood, and also suffering from all the bad news lately. I feel down today and look to You for comfort.
Lord, I ask your help for the others who have issues that get them down for various reasons. Life has its ups and downs, but even so, in the lives of believers You give joy in the midst of sorrows. Thank You for that gift.
I lift up all those personal needs I mentioned over on the daily thread. Perhaps You will quickly bring remedy to some like my friend Karen, and provide an excellent lawyer by Monday for my brother.
It’s about time for Mitch’s surgery, Lord. Please help it to go smoothly. I ask You to comfort his wife, family, and friends as they try to support him through this. May they find a treatment that will keep the tumor and its effects from harming his body in any further manner.
Please continue working things for good in Kim’s life. Thank You for the long awaited resolution to her need for a good house to turn into her beautiful home. Thank You for the invasion of the early Christmas spirit to bring joy to visit her life despite other less than desirable situations. Thank You that BG has loving and good parents who discipline and try to keep her adhering to Your better path for her life.
Please bless the situation mentioned by Kathleena regarding her relative. You know what is best for each family member. Please help with the adoption decision. I ask all to go well for the sake of those children.
I continue to lift up Annms for Your blessing. May she rise up from her down feelings and enjoy that friend’s visit to the full. Please help her daughters to do well in school. May she and her husband have pleasant days and nights together.
I lift up Mumsee, Mike, and all the Nestors. Please keep them all safe during the firestorms. I ask for a workable solution regarding the public school and the special needs choldren. Please make a good situation for these children and their caring parents.
Please, I ask also for better employment situations for Michelle’s Stargazer and for Karen O’s husband, Lee. You know what each needs and what is available in their vicinities. Guide them into work that is well suited to their individual skills and talents. If possible may they also work alongside believers in their fields.
Thank You for keeping my phone charged at least this long. You are our amazing power source when all else fails around us. Please send rain to the thirsty areas of the earth.
L9rd, I also lift up AJ and Cheryl for Your continuing healing while they are working their way through to better days. Please bless Liz, too, during any moments when she feels down about these days of struggle. May they all focus on the light at the end of the tunnel.
Well, since my phone just beeped, I say Amen now. In Jesus’ name.
Janice, didn’t you hear? They disproved that theory a long time ago. I still say it is quite possible. The combination of electric pulses being driven through us every day, the phone use, the computer use, the wifi, etc. They are waves and they are going through us. It is reasonable to think they might be impacting us. But that is just an old discarded theory.
Around here the joke is that it is caused by Sweet Tea. We have at one time or another over the past 20 years had concentrations of ALS, MS, and now this
Catching up with the prayer requests over the last week…
Prayers for the needs mentioned, and, NancyJill, I’m so sorry about the loss of your beloved pet. I cried to read that. May the Lord comfort you at this sad time.
I had some emotional upheaval last weekend regarding a matter I didn’t want to put online. Some day I might talk about it, but not now. Suffice it to say the Lord put some very understanding people in my life who helped give me perspective on that circumstance. God always provides, and we can thank Him in and for everything, I am slowly learning.
Next month is my birthday, and I feel like I have come to a crossroads in my life. Many things are changing, and so am I.
But I am rambling. (Some things never change.) 😉
Anyway…pray for me? I will probably be gone for a lengthy season. Doing the usual home, family and piano teaching, plus one “extra-curricular” — preparing for one and possibly two piano performances tentatively scheduled for mid-to-late autumn. So I will have to put the online world on hold for some time, to do justice to the other things. I don’t handle more than one extra-curricular well.
It’s time for me to unplug (mostly — I still will be checking email daily, so I am available that way if any of you here need to get a hold of me).
Will continue my prayers for you, as I have during other media hiatuses. You all are never far from my mind.
Today was a tougher day. Forrest wouldn’t get on the bus this morning, so Emily drove him to school, & then a couple of the school staff had to kind of drag him into the school. The school social worker spent some time with him, got him to play & talk a bit, then escorted him to his class. (She talked to me for a while on the phone, since Emily had gone to work, & one thing she told me was that she was impressed with Forrest’s vocabulary.)
She called here to learn some more about Forrest, & to give Emily some tips on helping him adjust. She seems very nice, & we feel better knowing he is getting the help he needs to make his school experience pleasant.
After school, Emily talked to his teacher on the phone for a while. She said that after he calmed down & came to class, he had a great day. She also gave Emily some tips for helping him to get on the school bus. We’ll see how that goes on Monday.
Praying he will adjust well, enjoy his time in school, & make a friend or two. (Remember, I’m also praying that throughout his childhood he will be drawn to “good” kids, who will be a good influence on him, & not drawn to the bullies or troublemakers.)
Perhaps you could take the school bus out of the equation for a while. Reminds me of my son in high school telling me that he could not ride the school bus as that was where all the drugs were. I ended up buying him a 100 dollar car from a relative. It got him to and from school.
Not sure if you have the option of being able to drive Forrest to school, but the bus is such a combination of ages, unlike his classroom.
Jo – The bus he is on is specifically for the younger kids, kindergarten & 1st grade.
It has been suggested that she try to get him to take the bus (he does take the bus home) so he doesn’t get deeper into his aversion of it. But Emily is thinking she will drive him to school (saves a lot of time) for a while, until he is more settled in to the school routine. She was told that they will support whichever choice she makes.
Oh, and speaking of birds, and music, as we were on this thread, Cheryl, I thought of you when I heard a piece played at the piano teacher’s workshop I attended last week.
There is a new piece of sheet music out this year by Alfred Publishing, composed by Matt Schinske, entitled Bird’s Eye.
GORGEOUS piece of music — brought tears to the eyes of this admittedly sentimental musician when I heard it played. I knew I had to buy it, and I’ve played it every day since I brought it home. (Well, except yesterday, when I had a sick child the whole day.)
Anyway, with the piano players you’ve got in your family, Cheryl, I thought I’d mention that piece to you. I think you all would enjoy it.
Other piano players, too! — the piece’s level is labeled Intermediate — or those who live with pianists.
Karen, glad they sort the busses like that. I think that is a great solution, to drive him to school and let him take the bus home. Praying that all goes well.

Rain, please. Just realized I no longer have a chorus of birds singing me awake in the morning. Where have they gone?
