Thanks for prayers, my daughter and her friends arrived safely in Managua and it looks like she finally got a good night’s sleep.
(She’ll have two more nights of EMT duty when she returns and then moves to a day shift–hallelujah–working 11 am -10 pm three days one week; four the next with one weekend off in between to go to church. Still in east LA, though, sigh.).
Anyway, now they’re off on a five hour bus ride to San Carlos at the mouth of the Rio San Juan, whence they will take a boat to Sabalos. Four days of eyeglass ministry start tomorrow. CR is proud to note, “I’m the only medical person on staff this year.”
I sent her with some Toy Story and Star Wars bandaids . . .
Our younger daughter (21) is spending the next two weeks in Canada with a Canadian friend she roomed with their year in college. They’re in New York today and then in Maine, but they’ll go back to Canada this weekend. She just called home; they saw Niagara falls this morning (from the Canadian side) and this evening they’ll be in NYC. They’re both mature young ladies with good judgment (our daughter is working a job that they typically prefer to hire people over 40, and they love her), but we’d appreciate prayers for their safety and that it would be a good trip.
I can say, too, it was sweet on Sunday to hear her talking with a man in our church who is probably in his early seventies, from Canada, and asking him for some recommendations. I love how the body of Christ brings together diverse people into one family, and particularly enjoy it when I see generations not segregated.
If she went by Niagara Falls, then she was in southern Ontario. Many people do use that route to get from Michigan to New York. I remember our considerable amusement when one American said he’d driven through Canada on the 401 – the 401 is the longest freeway in Canada, but it only goes through southern Ontario, which is a tiny fraction of the entire country. We used to go to Nova Scotia via New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, because it is shorter than driving through Quebec and New Brunswick; but there is too much hassle at the border now.
Roscuro, she picked her friend up from the Toronto airport this morning. I know they plan on seeing Nova Scotia, and I’ve heard what other places they are considering/planning on, but offhand I don’t remember them all. But she was excited about one town in Maine she wants to see, and about Nova Scotia, and about the trip in general.

I do not have within me what it takes to deal with this day. I am tired. My brain is fuzzy and all sorts of detailed issues are being fired at me.
