Thank You for Your healing ways. Thank You for sources of pain management. Thank You for good care in hospitals when needed. Thank You that You can and do bring peace into upsetting situations and let us rest in Jesus when burdens seem too great to bear.
Lord, I lift up Cheryl for Your blessed healing touch and pain relief today. Please help her to not get overwhelmed with frustration at having to adjust to physical limitation for awhile. May she use this necessary down time to draw even closer to You and recognize the joy You give even in times of suffering. Please let her not worry over work situations. I also ask for an extra dose of stamina and good attitude for AJ and Liz. Help them to quickly learn the most helpful things to do for Cheryl. Lord, I know You have this situation covered with Your love.
Praising You today in all situations, and considering how much worse all of our lives would be without You, our living and most generous giving God. In Jesus’ name, Amen
Please pray that Forrest will get a teacher who will understand him, & be patient with him, but also firm when need be. (I can’t imagine this kid sitting at a desk, listening to the teacher, for more than five minutes. 🙂 )
Continued prayers for Lee appreciated. He has been trying to get a hold of Ralph (the man buying his route) to settle on another (hopefully soon) closing date. If Ralph isn’t ready to run it yet, due to his family problems, Lee’s willing to run the route for him for a couple weeks. But Ralph hasn’t gotten back to him, so now he’s worried that he may be considering pulling out of the deal. 😦
Children tend to behave very differently when with unfamiliar adults. Smart teachers use that time to their advantage. Nothing wrong with a little fear sometimes.
Prayers appreciated as I teach this class. One parent said, “they have personality!” They are such good friends, that no one is quiet. Don’t even notice the teacher. I was in front of the class waiting to begin a math lesson yesterday and only one student saw me and she couldn’t get the rest of her table to notice. Yes, I have ideas. Please pray for creativity and flexibility and wisdom as I teach.
Most children are in awe of their first teacher. Education degrees are broken up into Elementary, Early Childhood, Middle, and High. Most schools try to put an Early Childhood degree in K and 1st. Forrest is going to be just fine.
Karen you know I am the first to voice my opinion that you don’t worry enough about the damage R can cause–I find you too trusting with him because YOU have a good heart and want to believe that he can change when he can’t and he won’t. He is a narcissist.
THIS time I am telling you that you are borrowing worry to worry about the teacher Forrest gets for Kindergarten. I have never heard a child talk about how horrible their K teacher was and how much they hated it. Deep breaths Mimi. Everything is going to be OK.
I have heard of one particular kindergarten teacher (in a different town, several years ago) who was horrible. I heard about her from two different friends who didn’t know each other.
But I’m sure Forrest will indeed be fine. 🙂 The school he is going to has a great reputation.
Speaking of Forrest…Emily is working this Sunday, including in the morning, & Lee asked her if we could take him to church with us (there is a children’s church for the younger kids). She replied, “I guess so.”
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Praying “I guess so” will solidify into a “Yes”.
As for Lee. he is so down & discouraged this evening. He sent Ralph a text being a bit more specific about his need to sell the route soon due to health issues, & needing to know if Ralph is still planning on buying it. No answer yet.
He also found out that the company will not buy the route back, something they’ve done for at least a couple others. He had been thinking that was his fall-back option, although he wouldn’t have gotten as much for it. Now it’s not an option after all.
Kim – Speaking of R, he has still been on good behavior for several weeks, amazingly. It sounds like he is also going to some kind of recovery program, like AA.
Thank You for getting Cheryl and AJ back home. I pray all goes well with the meds and with arranging the home environment so she can get around easily. Please ease any pain she has.
I lift up Karen O’s request about the teacher for Forrest. You know what and who he needs for a good fit of personalities and tolerances. I pray for him to have a teacher who really understands and appreciates the energy levels of boys. I pray he can make good friends who will not lead him into trouble. Help him to show respect to his teacher as she challenges him to do things her way rather than to do as he prefers. May he quickly understand how being in a group requires different behaviors than being on his own. I pray he will feel free to be himself at his best. Thank You for watching over him through his school days. Also, may things work out for Lee on the sale of his route. Please make a way even though things seem iffy. You know best and have a good plan if only You would reveal it sooner rather than later. Please relieve stress during the waiting. Help Karen to deal with anxiety over the changes happening around her. And always I pray for salvation of Emily and Chrissy. In Your timing and way, Lord.
Please help Donna, Lord, as she struggles with the ever shrinking newsroom and ever increasing demands of more coverage. I ask that You keep her in solid employment status no matter what happens around her. Keep her in perfect peace as she remains focused on You as her providence. So easily we look at the waves and deep waters instead of walking on the water with You. We all are guilty of looking down instead of up into Your eyes and heart. Thank You for Donna and her compassion for fellow church members like Norma. Please comfort Donna as she misses friends who haved passed on.
Please, Lord, help Jo with this challenging class. Help her to find a balance between physical activity to release energy and mental activity to challenge their thinking skills and keep them engaged. A class like this may take an extra dose of planning to keep it flowing steadily from one activity to the next without too many chances to get off track. Please give Jo additional resources and help if needed. Especially help her to be on alert and ahead of the children with anticipation of how they might wiggle away from her authority. Please give her ways to keep the class quieter and on program. Thank You for how it will all work out over time.
Jo, in working with one teacher, to get the children’s attention to start a new lesson, she would say in a fairly loud and firm voice, “All eyes on Miss Janice.” Other teachers flipped the light switch off and on to draw attention. With the younger children I would sometimes ask, “Do you hear the cricket?” They would quieten and listen, and once we did hear a cricket! God is good! You could ask a K class if they can hear a pin drop and when they get quiet drop one. Just a few ideas. 🙂
Karen, “I guess so” is yes. It may not be an eager yes, but it is yes. But as I’ve said before, she doesn’t get to say you stay home from church. When I have company over the weekend, it is understood that I go to church Sunday morning. Theoretically a guest might choose to stay home when I go, but going to church is what I do Sunday morning. If I’m physically unable or church is cancelled because of a blizzard, that is another matter.
If it were me, if someone were asking me to babysit Sunday morning, I’d be matter of fact about it, “I’ll have to make sure the carseat still fits, since he’ll need to go to church with us, of course.” If the person wasn’t willing to send the child to church, she could make alternate plans for her morning or alternate plans for childcare, but I wouldn’t be changing my plans to go to church. And for Forrest’s sake, he needs to see that church is your life priority, not something you do unless something more important comes up.
Fortunately, Emily hadn’t been working as many Sundays as we thought she would, & she is often scheduled for afternoon-into-evening, but it looks like she may be working at least every other Sunday now. After my missing a couple Sundays (Lee went to church on one, & was working on another), separated by a few weeks, we realized we did need to take a stand about going to church. If she or R doesn’t want Forrest to accompany us, then R can take him.

My eyes are really bleary after typing that much on this tiny keyboard. I am using a magnifying glass to try to recheck what I type.

Heck, I’d go one step further than that. “My house, my rules. As long as you live here, Forrest goes to church with us every week.”
