  1. My trip back:
🙂 my daughters and two grandchildren took me to the airport

😦 we weighed my luggage and had to leave the lunch bag and cheese that I had put in my suitcase.

🙂 When I got to Ukarumpa, I discovered the store has lots of cheese. Best variety I’ve ever seen

😦 I knew I had more than the 7 kilos or 15 pounds of carryon luggage I was allowed.

😦 They made an announcement that you had to weigh your bags if you thought they were overweight. I wanted to be honest, so went up and told them my bags were heavy and that I had a sewing machine in my carryon as I was going to PNG. My wheeled carryon weighed over 25 pounds. The steward just smile and said, “That looks okay.” then he lifted my other bag which probably weighed 10 pounds and said, “This one is lighter, so you’re fine.” Excuse me, I had at least 35 pounds not counting my computer or what was in my vest! 🙂 🙂

In Sacramento the flight that I was trying for was delayed for 1 1/2 hours. They were putting folks from the later flight on it so it was getting full. I mentioned where I was going and that I was going on from LA and the counter guy gave me a boarding pass right away. He said if my supervisor doesn’t like it, oh, well… 🙂 🙂

In LA I made sure to buy some water before I checked in, knowing that I would be waiting for hours. The line was short as I was so early. I went up to the counter and said that I am flying standby on the Brisbane flight and then continuing to Port Moresby and would like to check my luggage through. She told me to put my bag on the scale – wait, that never happens!!! With no questions, she proceeded to check me in just like a regular customer! and she checked both of my bags all the way to PNG! 🙂 🙂 That meant no check in or customs in Australia :0 🙂

So.. 🙂 I had to drink my water before going through security!

I got to explore LAX like a normal traveler. amazing

🙂 Finally they called my name during the boarding process and gave me the real boarding pass. It was for an A seat, which meant the window. Ilike the window, but have been trapped there before while seatmates slept. I actually looked at my boarding pass and said to my self, this is the seat God has for you so don’t worry. When I got on board I found that God had reserved an empty seat next to me and then a fellow on the aisle! It was a full plane, but I had an empty seat next to me! We won’t mention the screaming child kicking my seat.

🙂 In Brisbane I had to go to the transfer desk to get my seat assignment. She called upstairs to make sure that she could give me a boarding pass. Then she told me the only seats left were middle seats, would it be okay if she gave me the last aisle seat, which was in an exit row??

Friends from Ukarumpa boarded the plane in Brisbane, giving me a touch of home. They had two sons that I had taught.

Two of my students from this year were waiting with their family in the MAF hangar in Moresby. God gave me moments to connect with my students even as I returned. Others were waiting in Ukarumpa to greet friends.

🙂 🙂 Blessing upon blessing as a result of prayer and God’s gracious love.

  2. We had a very nice visit yesterday. Daughter continues to do well, though there are some generational frictions, which we attempted to address. Daughter really likes to be in charge, and people in their mid eighties and early nineties tend to already have a good idea of how they want things done. Also, my very optimistic for this country but cynical dad has changed his views a bit. He no longer has great hope for this country based on the idea that all young folk are that disinterested in our country and very interested in their Iphones.

  3. Interesting, mumsee. My greatest wake-up call for how far down our country had gone was with the oldest generation. I saw some buy into beliefs they never had before. 😦 I do agree, though, that I see way too many young people who are content as long as they have entertainment and plenty of good food and drink. 😦

🙂 Fortunately, I also know many young people who do love the Lord and are serving him.

    🙂 Beautiful picture.

  4. How wonderful you trip back sounds Jo. Once in flying from Denver to Honolulu I was in the middle row towards the back when a woman sat down with a two year old. I inwardly groaned. Turns our he and I slept all the way to Hawaii. Another time flying back from St. Thomas a toddler was in front of me screaming before the plane was even fully loaded. His mother said his ears had hurt on the way there. I asked if he could chew gum, was able to give him a piece and he and I sang until the plane leveled off. This was quite the feat since I do NOT sing alone or for others. I will sing in church but not very loudly.
BG couldn’t wait for the adventure of flying. I have taken her to Baltimore and to Mumsee’s. She is NOT a good traveler. Where I tend to go with the flow, people watch, and expect an “adventure” she wants to know what is going to happen, hates the whole check in process. I have told her flying sounds like fun and it used to be. Now is is more like crowding cattle into a cattle trailer or even worse an overloaded bus.

  5. 🙂 RAIN!

    🙂 RAIN!

    🙂 RAIN!

🙂 Sunshine! To dry off the now fast growing grass for me to mow!

🙂 Two nieces coming for a visit this week 😦 finding the time to get ready for them 🙂 husband has already deep cleaned a lot of the house and will wash floors on Monday!

🙂 Another great week at camp

🙂 Another week starts again tomorrow – resting today – may sand and stain my Adirondack chairs

🙂 Husband is doing very very well after his gall bladder surgery

😦 He had a very bad allergy attack this last week and ended up on IVs in the emergency for a day – that has never happened before and we don’t know what he reacted to – his diet is very plain and nothing had changed

😦 He’s back at work and doing well

  6. 🙂 We have a new fridge.

The “old” one was three years old, under warranty, and the door gasket was splitting a bit. My husband called for a new one, and over the last two months they have sent four gaskets, all the wrong size. He finally got a number to call that reached someone who agreed, “Enough already” and gave us store credit to get a new fridge.

🙂 The guy hauling the old one away asked if, rather than Sears just getting it back to recycle, he could have it, since he’s moving into a new apartment and he didn’t know how he was going to get a fridge. Hubby told him sure, and “The Lord moves in mysterious ways” to which he agreed.

🙂 It’s very warm here today–supposed to reach 92. If they’re not careful, it may end up feeling like summer by the end of the day. (If I have to put up with several feet of snow, then please give me a season that doesn’t feel anything like winter so that I can know I’ve had a break!) But we have a small storm system moving in (it just started raining) that is supposed to cool it off a little.

  7. 🙂 😦 A strange week with major plumbing & TV fails to fix; an emotional (but very appropriate) goodbye service for Norma; low morale in the newsroom; a new book on prayer that is bolstering my spirit

🙂 A new antique bookcase, if I can get it into the house. I may have to borrow another husband.

🙂 Some unexpected loud thunder & rain here on the coast today. Refreshing.

    🙂 Bouncy haircut

    🙂 A week off

🙂 Speaking of refrigerators, I cleaned mine out the other night and there’s room again! It’s a relatively small one (but really is — or should be — sufficient for a single person).

🙂 Cowboy, Tess and Annie Oakley. Such good pets.

  8. 🙂 My father’s heart procedure went well.

😦 Coming out of the sedation made him vomit violently (both my parents have the same problem with sedatives).

😦 On Friday night, I was going to bed late and heard my father stirring. He sounded very restless, which indicated to me that he was not feeling well. I went to check on him. He said it hurt to breathe and he couldn’t breathe when he was lying down. I took him to the hospital. They checked him for heart problems, but his heart was fine. It turns out that he has hospital-acquired pneumonia, which is more virulent than community-acquired pneumonia. Vomiting while under sedation is a big risk factor in developing hospital-acquired pneumonia. It was caught early enough that he was sent home with oral antibiotics (it usually needs IV antibiotics).
