For those who might nor understand Ricky’s comment, Psalm 91 is considered “the soldier’s Psalm.” Concerning the current turmoil, I think it’s just starting.
I see where Obama has celebrated the end of Ramadan. .
Chas, I’m sure he will send an equally-celebratory message to Christians on Christmas and Easter. And will also push for Good Friday to become a national holiday.
This is a really good article on Putin, Russia and the source of American hostility to both. I really like Boyd Cathey. His mentors, Russell Kirk and Mel Bradford, would be proud.
I’m sure Obama will celebrate Christmas , Passover, Diwali, etc in turn. Personally, I would thinking a non-believing politician celebrate my holy day would cheapen it.
I never understood why Good Friday is not a holiday in the US. It is in the rest of the English speaking world. I even get easter Monday off.
Our county library system closes on Good Friday, but calls it the “Spring Holiday,” even though they’re closed on Memorial Day, too, which IS a spring holiday. They call the latter closure “Memorial Day” but apparently “Good Friday” is too religious-sounding for the former to be labeled that. Don’t want to offend those who don’t commemorate Good Friday, I suppose, that they have to call it a holiday, even though, as HRW points out, it is not a holiday in the US.
Quote being attributed to Ron Paul regarding the TN shooting: “…it should be an excuse to look at our own selves, and find out why there are a lot of people who would like to kill us right now.”
In the West African country, both Christian and Muslim holidays were national holidays, although it was a majority Muslim country. No one objected to more celebrations.
