🙂 That is typical of what fathers get on father’s day. But emphasize that fathers are, indeed, important. We would have much fewer problems in the inner cities if those young men had fathers to direct them.
I don’t know if any of you were with us on WorldMagBlog 8-9 years ago when my daughter treated me to such a nightmare of behavior that I ended up in counseling for a year. The relationship was the hardest one I’ve ever had, but during those years, I took great solace in the fact many older women whom I admired, had had rocky relationships with their teenage daughters, but were fine when they grew up
I was shell shocked, on the defensive and emotionally undermined around her for a long time. I always felt like I was teetering on one blunder or another for many years, even after the hormones smoothed out.
She flew home Wednesday night in triumph after landing her job following a challenging probation with the toughest training officer. We spent all day together on Thursday, laughing, chatting, sharing, talking, telling stories, in a for-me almost completely relaxed way.
It felt like the culmination of so many prayers, tears, worries, and effort.
So, I would like to thank God that my relationship with my daughter is pretty much what I had dreamed it would be when she was born almost 23 years ago. God is good. I am thankful.
If only she liked art museums better . . . Nah, she can have her own preferences! 🙂
🙂 🙂 So happy to hear. The VBS I was involved in had many teachers and helpers around my children’s ages. There were also children going who were my grandchildren’s ages. It is much easier to not panic over some behaviors, because I realize that they are not finished yet. I thank the Lord for keeping the temperatures in a much better place than they could have been. Also, for the rain being very little and brief. We were able to do everything outdoors that we needed to do.
Our friend, Kim, is now in a convalescent unit. Everyone was quite concerned and there was an ambulance ride, but she seems to be recovering well from both the surgery and the infection. She needs to get stronger before chemo. Praise the Lord for that blessing.
The other night, while kissing & hugging goodnight, Lee said to me, “I miss you!” I laughed & said I understood what he meant. (His working too many hours, & our babysitting on his day off, then more work for him to do on Sundays before & after church, mean we don’t have much time together right now.)
But I am grateful to God that in all of the tensions & stresses in our lives over the past couple years, we have grown closer to each other, & closer to God. These kinds of things can cause a couple to lash out at each other, & grow apart, but the opposite has happened with us. Thank You, Jesus!
tough day, my great Dad is gone, daddy of my children left them and my youngest is having a non wedding today (so just the officiant and the photographer)
What is a “non wedding”? Did you mean Noon wedding? That is what we had.
I have always wished that I had hired a photographer. My sister’s husband took some pictures. That’s all. I thought I couldn’t afford it, but I should have borrowed money if necessary.
Chas, it looks like she is saying no one is invited, they’re simply getting married.
Re “hope for the future,” when I was a child I didn’t get along at all with my younger brother and sister (they would acknowledge it was really their fault and not mine . . . but it hurt and left me rather lonely). When I was about 14 we briefly attended a church plant, and one couple had two girls in their early twenties, and I saw how well they got along and thought, “There is hope for us.” Sure enough, when I was about their age, my sister and I shared an apartment and attended church together. Before I moved out to live with her, for a while we worked together (she had moved out already, but I hadn’t). But that thought, “Wait a little, and I bet it will get better” was quite encouraging to me for a couple of years.
Cheryl – One of my prayers for my girls (ages 26 & 23 – yikes!) is for them to grow closer & become good friends. But right now, they are not close at all. They have very, very different personalities & temperaments. Chrissy needs some understanding because of some of the personality traits that are affected by Asperger’s, but Emily, at least for now, doesn’t want to do the understanding. I think Emily sees Chrissy as “weak”, & Chrissy sees Emily as too “tough”. (“Weak” & “tough” aren’t quite the words I’m looking for, but I’m tired.)
Tomorrow I’ll be preaching from Eph 6:4, which will be the last message in our Ephesians series. Thanks for your prayers.

That is wonderful to hear, Michelle. It gives me hope for a certain thirteen year old boy.
