  1. If I were a mouse, I would be in terror now.
From last night. I a South Carolinian. I can take heat and humidity.
But I have lived up north, visited Greenland when I was in the AF. So I know cold too. but don’t like it.
Southerners, I have noticed, are about cold like northerners are with heat. They don’t like to be in it. They don’t want to bundle up and stay inside. In the South in winter it’s usually from the house to the car to work, church or whatever.
When I was a kid, there were no winter sports in SC, so I never got out in the cold.
My granddaughters, living in Charleston at the time, would go ice skating.
    times have changed.

I really, really dislike heat & humidity. And mosquitos. I remember being in Iowa one summer (I was in college at the time) for the estate sale of my paternal grandmother’s property. Sad and hard day for everyone, and that night I was in the upstairs bedroom — the one that was “mine” whenever we stayed over the years (it had a slanted ceiling that I often banged my head on at the top of the stairs!) — and because the house had been open all day, the air was thick with the biggest, buzzing, buzzing awfullest mosquitos you’ve ever seen.

  3. I don’t like too much heat, humidity or mosquitoes, either. There are many species of mosquitoes, BTW. There are some very small ones that can get into the tiniest of flowers and are very good pollinators. The dreadful big ones that sting are the ones we hate, of course.

  4. It is a misty morning in the forest and the scent of the pines is amazing!
We have been spoiled here not having mosquitos…and now we are being chased by them! 🙂 When we lived in Florida, it seemed as though the mosquitos were big enough to carry away the cat…and if you opened the door of the patio room at night, the screen would be covered in mosquitos just wating to get in to suck your blood!! ewww!

  5. Good Morning All. I am having lunch with my stepmother and stepbrother today. Yesterday was her birthday and today is seven years since my father died. It doesn’t seem possible that he has been gone that long.
Recently I was at a friend’s house. We have been friends since high school and she and I spent a lot of time at each others house. She made a comment and I did a double take. It was one of Jimmy’s sayings and I had forgotten it. She and I started laughing and had to explain to several people what it meant and why it was so funny. Most of his sayings cannot be posted here because they almost all have a bad word in them. I could handle those, but the one that always destroyed me because he told me this whenever I faced adversity:
Learn from this. Grow from this. Let it make you a stronger and better person…..oh how I hated it when he said that to me.

On heat and humidity. Buildings are so air conditioned and cold in the summertime that you really can’t wear summer clothes. This morning I dug out a pashima shawl to bring to the office so I don’t freeze to death.

  6. We’re complaining out here in the west because we’ve had heat and humidity the last couple days with more to come today and a party at my house tonight. We’ll be outside and hoping the mosquitoes go somewhere else. They’re not bad here.

I’m rolling in fat after two big meals yesterday with this dinner tonight. Have been to the gym and will now take a walk, but I don’t think it’s going to be enough, yikes!

Laughing at the ET memory–we saw it at the drive-in because we had no babysitter all those years ago. Summer, Connecticut, heat, mosquitoes.

No wonder I didn’t care for it much! Ha!

Later. Off to walk off that terrific dinner. He bought me tickets to the symphony as a gift and I’m excited. Beethoven’s 9th!

  7. Mosquitoes: we have never had many of them around here…until this year. I have seen five or six already this year. And heard reports from some of the children of them being around. More swallows needed. More bats.

  8. We had bats in our attic several years ago. We hired a company that uses a humane method to get them out without having to kill them, & then seal the areas where they entered.

Today will be a hot & humid one in Connecticut, up to 90*.

  9. Had such a sweet visit with a 91 year old yesterday. She has such a positive attitude and such strong faith. She KNOWS God will take care of her. I mentioned that I sometimes get down and she said she does not let herself get down. After two hours I said I should leave and she exclaimed, ‘not, yet!’ So it was a three hour visit. As I left she gave me a gift and I just realized this morning that it was exactly what I wanted to give my daughter.

  10. R has been on good behavior for the past few weeks, since telling us that he has found God & is trying to turn his life around. He has been nice to me on the phone when he calls, & pleasant at the door when he picks up Forrest (but not in a fake way). (And he has been taking Forrest more often, if only for an hour or two.)

Last evening, while R was picking him up for a bit, there was a situation (regarding something of Forrest’s that may not fit anymore, & should have been replaced by now) that in the past would have had R complaining about Emily, but he just smiled & took it well. Chrissy was pleasantly surprised, as she had gotten nervous when the question arose.

Emily still isn’t “buying” it, & we, too, realize we still need to be cautious, & allow more time for him to really prove himself. There have been other times when he has told Emily he was going to straighten out his life, but then he went back to old bad habits.

Praying God would do a wonderful work in this young man.

  11. I recently learned that Former Pastor did not leave in a “healthy way”, which caused the Assemblies to step in with an approved man to fill the pulpit until we find someone else. I mention this because of the comment the other day about local churches needing good oversight by others in the denomination.

  12. There was something on the news last night regarding the water in our lakes. Folsom lake could only go so far and then would no longer be able to release water because of where the levels were. So they should be conserving that water. But instead they were releasing water from Folsom because the far north reservoir, Shasta was still cold and there were federal regulations about not releasing water at that temperature because it might harm the fish. Too bad that common sense cannot be used.

  13. And yet …

Saw this on a hometown page thread on FB from someone who’s trying to move back from PA where he and his wife wound up for a few years.

Someone asked him how the weather was back there.

“Humid, wild, unpredictable. Winters are hell and people seem to enjoy the dangerous snow. No such thing as a perfect day like socal here. Tornado watches in effect, flash floods, no bueno”

  18. There is a wonderful coffee shop in Grass Valley where all of my kids worked different summers. Now one daughter is owner/manager with her husband and the other is manager. We all also worked at the local Christian camp different summers. Yes, that includes me. One daughter did landscaping one summer. Oh, and worked trimming Christmas trees for a local farm. I remember the summer my son got hired to work the census. I would not have wanted to go to all those homes out in the woods.

  19. In California you have to be 18 years old to do most of those jobs. But they’re great suggestions, since I’m also aiming at college students.

  21. Lulabelle called home from Doggy Camp–well, SHE didn’t call home, the trainer did. They said that she has the sweetest disposition of any dog they have had and that she is learning well. She is just too hyper and they need to find a way to slow/calm her down. She is especially hyper after being alone for a while. They took photos of all the dogs and posted them on Facebook. They got a really good photo of her. Tomorrow they should post video of them training. Can’t wait to see what that looks like.
Amos of course is enjoying his renewed status of only dog. He has taken to sleeping in the middle of the bed. He is a lovepuppy and America’s Cuterest Puppy Dog. We are enjoying our mornings together.

  22. Another good day of VBS, and afterwards our crew went out for a nice lunch. The three I am working with are all in their eighties but in good health for the most part. I learn a lot from them, and enjoy their conservative points of view. Again this week I was in discussion with my friend, Karen. She was complaining about Christians causing wars but said she and her husband know the Vietnam war was caused by political corruption and not Christians. Then she praised the Muslims for their peaceful religion that has a few extremist troublemakers. i don’t want to argue and upset her as she is facing surgery. Her problem is causing her to be more antagonistic than I have ever seen, so I am trying to be patient and hope all this liberal mumbo jumbo will pass.

Heat and humidity causes me much suffering, but I do get acclimated to it. The weather has been great for VBS. I think temps are going up to the 90s over the weekend.

ST. JOHNSBURY, VT. A Vermont man has escaped jury duty — by getting dismissed for wearing a prisoner costume.

Isn’t God good, letting me be home to watch these games and not just read about it on Facebook??!!!
Jack got a hit every time at bat. Quite different from the way he started the season.
Now we have another game against the winners of another league on Tuesday.
