  1. Good morning, AJ, and you’re welcome. 🙂

The next two posts will have the music, but first, welcome back, Mumsee! And that is wonderful news about Mike. Blessings to you all.

  2. Good morning, all! It is fun wearing AJ’s music department hat today. 😉

Last week, AJ featured a video by Sergei Rachmaninoff on the anniversary of the composer’s death. Well, today is the anniversary of the composer’s birth, and since he’s one of my favorites, you get another dose of him!

I’ve played some Rachmaninoff on the piano, and this one I loved the most — his Prelude in G Minor. It was my recital piece when I was a junior in high school, so it brings back fond memories for me.

It’s fun to watch this piano player in the video perform it. She is GOOD! 🙂 Hope you enjoy it!

  3. I also found this interesting piece by another composer with a birthday today, Ferruccio Busoni, so thought I’d share it with you, as well. Some mighty fast fingers this guy’s got! 🙂

  4. Tomorrow the music won’t be only piano, like today, BTW. 🙂 But it will be classical, so if anyone would like to add music of another genre to the mix, feel free. 🙂

  5. Here’s what Mumsee said for those who don’t have time to hunt it down:

“We are back and all is well. The surgery seems to have had a huge impact on the RA. Most of the swelling and pain are gone. The knee pain is almost nonexistent.”

    Rejoicing.

I also managed to stay in bed until 4:15 this morning, so I’m pleased I’m headed to normal (ha!) Of course, I went to bed at 6:45 . . .

I’d love to see some of that Rachmaninoff score. I love his piano concertos and the thought of how black the pages must be both intrigues and intimidates!

Off to care for adorable granddaughters while their mother rests after minor surgery.

    Yes, at 4:42 . . .

  6. Early start to the day, Michelle! I thought I was up early at 4:53 this morning.

Here’s the score to the Prelude above. 😉

  7. Good morning. I haven’t been able to be around much lately, but am getting caught up on things.

Aj: I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve been praying for you and your family. As Winona Judd sings, I hope you “…can feel all of that love from here…”

  8. At the Y this morning, I lifted 250 pounds twelve times. Then I rode the bike five miles in ten minutes up a 15 percent grade.
Then on the way out, I met Shannon Bream woo wanted me to run off with her. But I told her the Ol’ Mean Momma wouldn’t let me.
And if you believe any of that, you know what you are.

It is good news about Mike. I, like the rest of you, was praying for him.

  9. Because I think I read above that we can add music as we like …I am planning a party for Mama Ruth so I am thinking of my Rainbow Girl days. We used to close every meeting by holding hands in a circle and singing this song. As I listened to it this morning it can also apply to the fellowship we find here on the blog

  10. I see on yesterday’s thread that Gary Dahl, inventor of the pet rock died.
It was invented as a prank. I suspect that every pet rock that was bought was given as a prank.
It stays with you forever. Except Chuck’s was too fragile, had too many parts and broke.
His was a guitarist and was called “A Rock Band”.

  11. Hello! I hope everyone feels able to handle any foolishness this day. I see Chas is ahead of us all in that regard.

My husband finally got caught up on the work piled up on his desk, and we are going take a hiking tour of Atlanta because it has changed so much since we were born here that we don’t know where we live anymore. Now you know all of that is a joke except the part about how much Atlanta has changed since we were born here. I was born at Emory University Hospital and he was born at Crawford Long and both are now Emory.

  12. Our son was born at West Paces Ferry Hospital which is no longer in existence. Funny his hospital is gone but ours are still around.

So thankful for good news from Mumsee and Mike!
Also glad Michelle made it back safely.

  13. I don’t play piano, but even I was wondering what the sheet music would look like as I watched/listened to her play that prelude. 🙂 Wow.

Chas, you had me going there for a while, I thought 250 pounds … ! Would you happen to have a bridge I can buy?

I tossed and turned a bit early this morning, and then, just as I was drifting back to sleep, realized I had to get up pretty soon. Hate that.

  14. I know I would like 6 Arrows selections, but this phone gives me the message of “content restricted.” A lot of links don’t work because of that. It is because of Webguard. I would try to override it, but I think it probably keeps anything like porn off my phone and of course I don’t want that. So I have been reluctant to change that feature.

    Please don’t think I don’t like something if I don’t comment ❤

  15. Husband spent the day in the emergency yesterday with low blood pressure (80/60) and a bad migraine that affected his vision to the point he could only see a light square where the window was. Scary!! That’s the first time he’s had such an impact on his vision although he does get migraines all the time. Since he normally has high blood pressure and takes medication, I’m wondering if the fact that we’re trying a gluten-free diet for him for the last 2 weeks has lowered his blood pressure. Has any one else heard or experienced anything like that? He was fine by evening, by the way.

  17. I’ve had a few visual migraines where all would go black except for a colorful turning wheel. It was very scary. It hasn’t happened in years. I was dieting at the time, so you may be onto something with the gluton free thought. I was eating a lot of tuna so I wondered about mercury. This was before I had our son.

  18. April Fools Day Joke
A couple of years I would get out a pair of glasses that had no lenses. As I walked around school I would reach through the empty hole where the lens should have been and scratch my cheek. Many kids would smile.

  19. NO CAVITIES!!! No fooling! 😀 An extremely rare treat for me to hear a report like that about my teeth, so please excuse my lack of decorum. 😉

    Ahem.

Hey, Anon (10:37 am), that Jimmy Page Playing Chopin was great! Who says metal and classical can’t go together? 😉

Janice, I hope you can get the videos to play somehow, somewhere. Maybe on a library computer, using headphones? I, too, know you’ll like them. 😉

Kare, your comment intrigued me, as I have been gluten-free for several years, and have always naturally had low blood pressure.

I did some looking around after seeing your post, and it does appear that eliminating gluten (or even just wheat) can lower blood pressure. I have no medical background, but I wonder if the combination of the GF diet and your husband’s bp meds caused the steep decline in his blood pressure?

When I went gluten-free, it was cold turkey — no gradual reduction leading up to the complete elimination of gluten — and I did not have any problems with excessive lowering of my bp, that I could tell. The couple times that my bp dropped to extremely low levels that I was aware of (while I was at a clinic, where it could be checked), it was in the years while I was still eating gluten, and I felt very lightheaded those two times. (My blood pressure turned out to be in the 80s over 40s range in those instances.)

But I never got that lightheaded feeling after going gluten-free, and my bp tends to stay in the low 100s over low 60s range, as it always has when I’m not pregnant. (It’s usually 90s over 50s during pregnancy for me.)

Sorry about all the numbers! I guess what I’m trying to say is that the GF diet didn’t cause my bp to go excessively low, even though it’s quite low to begin with, and maybe excessive lowering didn’t happen to me because I haven’t been on any blood-pressure-lowering meds that could take it down lower?

Everyone is different, though, of course, so I think it’s advisable to ask your husband’s doctor about possibly reducing or eliminating his bp meds if he/she believes the diet/med combination is a problem, and if there are important reasons to stay on the GF diet. (Although physicians don’t always know a lot about nutrition, unfortunately, so also working with a nutritionist may be a good route.)

Just a few ideas from a GF gal who’s derived a lot of benefits from that diet. 😉

Oh, and I’m glad your husband was fine by evening!

  20. A few years ago, my son created a false Facebook account with the name of a girl in early March. He then friended the account. A couple of weeks later said he “was in a relationship” with her. Then, on April 1st he announced his engagement. A friend called my wife (she didn’t have FB in those days) all excited and asked if our son really was engaged, and who was this girl? It was a great April Fool’s prank, well thought out ahead of time.

  21. The people I have met casually in life who are Catholic have been some very nice people. I remember being at a playground with son when he was young and two older boys were hanging out there. They treated my son, the little kid, quite nicely. You never knew what to expect as far as who would be there. The Catholic schools here were heavy on discipline and the children who sttended them knew how to be respectful to grownups and younger children. So despite the theological differences, i hold Catholics in high regard. I really respect their firm stance on abortion. It is funny that somehow I got on the Catholic mailing list and I get lots of mail from their various ministries asking for donations.

  22. My friend and former apartment roommate who lives in CA grew up Catholic as did her husband. She is now Methodist and her husband does not attend services. She told me about how intimidating discipline was in the Catholic school classrooms. I don’t think she did high school in a Catholic school because I know she graduated from a local city public school. But I think that Catholic strict training early on was quite an influence.

  23. I’ve got tomorrow’s blog music ready, but probably won’t post it as early as I did today’s. Likely around 9:00 Eastern.

It’s been very enjoyable selecting music yesterday and today, and, in the process, I found a new classical music website I just love! So this has been a blessing to me.

AJ, if I can help out again (musically speaking) in the future, feel free to ask. 🙂

  25. I think I’ve mentioned on here that March is just about my least favorite month of the year (in the Midwest . . . in the South and the Southwest, it’s lovely). So we finally got to April. (Yay!)

Woke up to a light fog and beautiful light effects across the landscape. Got some photos of trees, a hawk, male cardinals, robins, and a dove.

Heard quite a bit of birdsong, and saw a male cardinal who apparently is trying to decide whether it’s late enough in the season to chase off a rival. (Ultimately he decided not to, but he went after him half-heartedly before he decided to tolerate him.)

Saw that the crocuses finally decided to bloom (I don’t know what’s “normal” for them, but it was March the last couple of years).

And it got up into the 60s.

The grass has hints of green, and if you look closely at the trees you can see that buds are swelling a bit. It will be a month or so before we have blossoms or leaves, but at least they’re thinking about it. And all the snow is gone, hopefully for good for this season.

So it may not really be spring yet, but winter’s back seems to be broken, and I’m so ready for that. I really was not made for six or more months of leafless trees and seven months in which it might snow. But we’re nearing the end of it, finally, and I’m very glad about that.

  26. Yes, AJ, completely normal. I had four or five nights between finding out about Mom’s death and her funeral, maybe even six, and those nights combined I might have gotten eight hours sleep.
