We were about ready for breakfast this morning. Elvera forgot to bring coffee filters. So, we went to Denny’s for breakfast. From there, we went on the town.
We got back a few minutes ago.
🙂 We’re at Surfside Beach.
😦 Temperature is 57 degrees, was cloudy and breezy. Not good beach weather.
🙂 But Elvera got to go to her stores at Barefoot Landing and the mall. She bought something on sale at Belk there.
🙂 That makes her day.
We had planned to go to Brookgreen Gardens after church tomorrow, but forecast is for 62 degrees and rain in the afternoon. Don’t know yet what we’ll do.
😆 As I mentioned yesterday, she went into Food Lion to get coffee filters. She came out with coffee filters, strawberries, milk and peanut butter & jelly. Her sisters might want some.
🙂 But hit all kinds of major traffic congestion getting back home — it finally dawned on me that this is a 3-day weekend for many people (Cesar Chavez Day is Monday) and that always means crowds jamming the waterfront. There were several big tour buses among the vehicles stacked up bumper-to-bumper on the offramp. I think it took me 20 minutes just to get off the freeway.
🙂 Got the shopping done for a casserole I have to make tonight for church
🙂 We had a big morale boost at the paper this week when one of our investigative series on a local school superintendent took first prize in a major journalism award program. And we’re “in the hunt,” we’ve been told, for a Pulitzer. That’s unlikely, but nice that we even got so far as to be seriously considered! The reporter who did the lion’s share of the work on the stories, sadly, left journalism for more money at a local university, but he came back for the celebration this past week in the newsroom
😦 Looks like another hedge fund is in line to purchase all the papers in our chain, but it will probably take another few months for the process to play out.
🙂 Our heat wave broke — but not before ruining some of our wildflower/poppy fields for the year.
I was wrong, Monday isn’t Cesar Chavez Day — that’s on March 31.
So why all the crowds ?? Maybe the first weekend in spring?
Or one of these days (which fall on March 23, this coming Monday): National Chip and Dip Day, National Melba Toast Day, National Puppy Day, Near Miss Day, OK Day, and World Meteorological Day
For the record, being caught up on housework does NOT mean that my house is Martha Stewart perfect. It means we had a guest stop by a few days ago and I got the house “clean enough” before then, and I have since swept again, the dishes were all washed, and I washed the load of towels. It’s not that the house is perfect, it’s that there is nothing that will make me feel guilty if I don’t do it today. But my house is never Martha Stewart perfect, and I’m OK with that!
The areas of my home that are open to the public are clean enough on piano lesson days, and if I can maintain those areas and the kitchen every day of the week, then I’m satisfied.
Sort of.
But I’m chipping away at decluttering in the other parts of the house, as time and energy allow, because sometimes the disaster areas just get to me.
And other times I just let them go.
I am consistently inconsistent in how I approach housework.
6 arrows, I’m with you — trying to keep the main area picked up and clean, along with the kitchen and bathroom — but the spare rooms are another story! I’m glad I don’t have a big house, I guess.
I found out what all our harbor traffic was about, we had 2 cruise ships in port (which I could see) that were leaving today, each with 3,000 passengers. I must have been getting off the freeway right around the time when passengers were arriving.
At least he got a good basic education before getting kicked out. He already spells, writes and does math better than I did when I graduated this very same public school 35 years ago
I tell them, if they can read, write, and do math, they are way ahead of the game. If they can read, they can learn science and history. Spelling comes with reading. Writing lets them communicate with others and math gets them through day to day living. And I frequently tell them (whatever that is at the moment), “I did not learn that until we started home schooling”>
I know that method of speed cleaning of which KBells speaks. 😉
And then sometimes the unexpected company doesn’t give 15 minutes notice. My favorite time someone dropped by unannounced happened about 5 minutes after expected company had left.
So there wasn’t enough time to get the house in a shambles before the second bunch arrived. 🙂
🙂 My sweet husband.
🙂 My sweet son.
🙂 Rain in March..when did happen last?
🙂 Springtime birds.
🙂 50th birthday much better than 40th. (40th spent at my father’s funeral)
🙂 Seeing God’s provision in all areas.
🙂 2 days this weekend spent with my family.
😉 Kbells and 6Arrows-the white tornado is my most effective mode of preparation for company also.
🙂 All day bluegrass music festival and workshops. I attend the workshops with my husband, although I don’t play an instrument or sing for an audience. He is not really a bluegrass musician, but close enough to gain something. Saw lots of people we expected and a few (such as a cousin) that were completely unexpected.
🙂 The secret to a completely cleaned house is: 1. Low standards or 2. Small house, hard work and then rope every room off; keeping everyone outside. I don’t mind messy. I expect somewhat messy when there are small children. I do not like grungy. If you spill; clean it up. My husband sometimes tries to blame a SIL who hasn’t even been here lately. Not gonna work.
🙂 God’s marvelous work in lives that seem hopeless. We had a drug/alcohol group in church today singing and giving testimonies. We so minimalize the term slavery when it is used in conjunction of sin. I mean much more than obvious sin, too.
😦 The presenter (well into her middle age) who forgot mom’s advice about closing your legs when you wear a skirt or dress. Quite distracting. I will spare you details, but let’s say it was a good thing she was wearing undies.
😦 The logging truck load of tamarack firewood we ordered in September (!) still hasn’t arrived
🙂 Thankfully, they are clearing dead trees nearby in preparation for a prescribed burn and we can collect and use that wood
😦 Quite cold again today (below freezing) but in a way that’s good as it slows the melt down and help prevent flooding
🙂 Husband saw a golden eagle yesterday

🙂 My husband and I are both healthy, and so is the rest of our family.
🙂 Some good birding this week.
🙂 Two challenging editing projects to work on.
🙂 I’m caught up on housework.
🙂 The snow is all gone here, after it seemed it would never end.
😦 Still have to wait another month or more till spring. March is one of the hardest months of the year for me.
🙂 March is more than half over.

Tamarack is warm. I am growing two of them in my tree pasture but I don’t plan to burn them for a while.
Cheryl is coming to my house to clean, because she is all caught up at her house!

It’s a good thing she doesn’t do computers. If she did, you might discover that I’m not perfect.
Almost, but not quite.

I bought a book on Speed Cleaning once, then later discovered that the best speed cleaning method is still unexpected company in 15 minutes.

If our school is any indication, he should have plenty of company talking in class so it won’t be an expellable offense.

Happy (belated?) birthday, RKessler! The big 5-0, eh? You young ‘un. 🙂 One of my siblings, and one of my husband’s, were born the same year you were.
Did you do anything special on your day?
