My spam box is full of dirty emails…I hadn’t checked it in about a year and was disgusted by what I saw. Unbelievable, really, how coarse and depraved our culture has become…
I skim my spam folder (not looking at the messages themselves, but at who sent them) because sometimes a legitimate email accidentally ends up in there. And yeah, a lot of them are of a sexual nature.
Chas, I have U-Verse and have so far (going on 2 years) been OK with them. But I haven’t had any major problems to navigate yet. 🙂 The first will be when that 2-year introductory pricing expires, probably around May, and I get a higher bill. At that point, I was told I’d have to call their customer retention department and start haggling. Sigh. But, really, they’re all the same, it’s entirely annoying.
😦 Feeling my usual January “blues.” It’s just not my favorite time of year, ever. Blah. No more holidays, no more days off for a while, tax season approaching, but expenditures also (property tax, house insurance, etc.)
🙂 But the Christmas lights are down. So I’m already running ahead of 2014 at least.
🙂 And January is a 3 paycheck month for us this year. We get 2 of those every year, usually one in the spring and one in the fall. This year they’ll come a little earlier apparently.
😦 Continued breath-holding at work as we await word on our “for-sale” status.
🙂 Getting together with some women from church today to celebrate a retirement. I still have to order my take-out dinner from the menus they provided … Everything’s rather fancy & super expensive but is being paid for by the hostesses, so I’m trying to find a cheap item (with ingredients I recognize) to order … while the no-frills, working-class journalist in me keeps thinking — Why don’t we just order a big pizza? 🙂
🙂 We’re getting a *little* bit of rain here this morning. Hoping for much more than this before spring, we’re still locked in a drought. But January and February are traditionally our rainiest months, so maybe … All’s not lost just yet.
Chas – A Facebook friend wrote about a call she made to her cable provider’s customer service. The CSR was telling her how hard her job is because she has to talk to so many cranky people. My friend commented, at least on Facebook, that every job has its hard aspects, & dealing with them is part of being an adult.
I bet all (or at least most) of us have had the experience of being at a check-out counter at the grocery store or some other kind of store, & hearing the cashiers complaining to each other about the hours they’re working or how they can’t wait to get off work in a couple hours or some such stuff.
🙂 My birthday is on Tuesday, & I am going to request my hubby bring home pizza for dinner. Actually, Lee knows me well enough that I probably don’t have to ask. 🙂
😦 The one vacuum cleaner that we have in this house, that Emily & I share, is on the fritz. Emily’s oven is on the fritz. My washer is on the fritz. Emily’s washer works, but only if you are doing a medium-sized load with warm water.
Lee & I have overdue dental appointments coming up this month. We also are very much in need of new glasses, especially me, as I am having a hard time reading, or seeing the TV well, with my current glasses.
And finances are tight. 😦
🙂 God continues His work in my husband, & is doing a good work in me, too.
My problem isn’t with the people, it’s the system. I haven’t talked to a person yet.
Problem? I can’t get the remote to work.
I go to the website and follow instructions. It doesn’t work.
I go the “chart with a live agent at att.com/uversesupport” and just get the instructions again.’ I call 1-800-288-2020 and get to talk to a computer who tells me to go to some channel to get instructions. There is no real person in the network.
For kicks, go to 1-800-288-2020 There is no real person there. say “remote” when he asks the problem.
I had that experience this week trying to “talk” to the mail-order prescriptions company my insurance wants us to use. Sometimes it works OK, if your request or need is simple, straight-forward (“Tell us in one word …”) and part of their main troubleshooting menu. Other times, not so much.
Sometimes you can punch 0 for operator and it takes you to a customer service queue for a real person to talk to. But it doesn’t always work. There usually is some option if you poke around enough, though, that will get you in line to talk to a real hooman being. 🙂
Has, Live chat also is an option that usually works well, I’ve used that with AT&T before so if they offer that on their website you might try it.
It’s pretty efficient and allows you to “chat” back and forth via computer message, so that way you can ask specific questions about what’s wrong and they should be able to walk you through it.
Not sure if this is a rant or a rave, but our former church in CT–the one that switched from Episcopal to Anglican and then was financially destroyed by the NE Episcopal diocese as a result (Connecticut Six)–left behind their building and assets to move along after 7 years.
I just found this article noting the NE Episcopal diocese sold the church building (and, I’m sure, pocketed the proceeds–of which they contributed ZERO) to an evangelical Baptist church:
Love the comment in the article–the new congregation has beliefs almost exactly like those of the former church whose building they now own.
I’m guessing that congregation also has former members and probably the blessings of the former rector.
Father Gauss, the rector, is retiring from the ministry in June. My husband and I are now working on plans to get back there to sit under his teaching one more time. Trying to figure out how to get in a soccer game in Montreal the night before, however, is proving a challenge!!
Michelle @ 1:56. I tried that first.
I went to the help channel (411), but when I pushed “ok” to open it, nothing happened.
I called an ATT store in Arden, but they aren’t taking calls.
I’m not kidding 🙂
Meanwhile, I need to stop in at our AT&T store today, since upgrading my phone I’m having a voice mail password prompt constantly popping up. This has happened before with previous phones, it’s a fairly quick fix, but it’s the store people who can do it.
🙂 🙂 I mentioned to someone at church the other day that the parking lot is very dark as a bulb is out and then the motion sensor light on my garage is out too. So it makes for a very dark walk from car to house at night.
I got a call from a friendly deacon who said that they cut the power to the garage when they replaced the patio. He just spent 4 hours of his Saturday here digging a trench and laying new power lines to the garage so the lights would work.
I feel very well taken care of and blessed.
This fellow is actually an electrical engineer so he did it right.
🙂 Made 2 huge batches of ketchup today – should last at least a year
🙂 Picked up our new dishwasher this week
😦 Now to figure out just how to install it without proper cupboards already in place – we need to decide if we’re going to rip everything on that side out and install the dishwasher in its final spot or jury rig it to work and then when cupboards are purchased, to install it properly.
Kare – Doesn’t it also have to be “grounded” or something? When our new dishwasher was put in (several months or more ago), the guy had to go down to the basement to connect something.
KarenO – I’m sure it does. Our problem right now is that my counter will be 3″ higher than a normal counter, but it isn’t yet – so do we rip it out and put in the dishwasher 3″ higher and then jury rig either the old counter back into place or… It would be much easier to do the whole kitchen in one swell foop (as my husband says) but we just won’t ever have the money to do that. We may just do the cabinet boxes and then get all the doors when we can afford them.
I like to say “one swell foop”, too. In fact, I said that just yesterday. 🙂
Sorry about your dishwasher/counter conundrum. 😦
I think I would do what you wrote – put in the dishwasher, then jury rig the counter. It won’t be magazine-perfect, but at least you’ll have a dishwasher. 🙂

This is simple, but have you tried 1. turning it off and on again. 2. changing the battery.
