  1. Another beautiful day in the neighborhood. A bit of rain the past couple of days but we are so low in our snow pack this year, I don’t imagine it is of much consequence.

  2. The book was due today. I’d checked the book out way last December, and renewed it the maximum number of times, so today was the day to really buckle down and get it done. We read the last four chapters this afternoon.

Fifth Arrow groaned just about every time I got the book out to read these past months. I need to make read-alouds a regular thing so he gets more accustomed to them. But with nearly every chapter (we usually read only one chapter at a time, even today) he listened quite well and didn’t wander away, so I know the story engaged him.

The girls all liked the book, especially, it seemed, 6th Arrow, who is seven. I found her looking at the book a lot on her own, and she always listened with rapt attention when I read.

She was the first one to pipe up when I finished the book this afternoon. Her comment?

“Well, that was a cr**py ending.”

Not what I was expecting to hear from her.

I asked her how she wished it had ended. She didn’t have an answer for that.

We have the second book checked out now. (Did I get the right one, Narnia experts — Prince Caspian?) She was looking at it tonight and said, “I see Aslan is in this book, too.”

    Yep.

A minute or two later, she announced, “Hey! We should buy the whole series!”

    Smile. 🙂 Christmas is coming… 😉

  3. 1415

Too bad I can’t read books in a series as fast as I can type numbers in a series.

I’m done now. I just thought 1413, 1414, and 1415 were kind of cool. 😉

  4. And good morning.

I seem to be talking to myself. Well, I’ve just taken care of getting a comment registered for this day on this thread, so I’ll move on to talking to hubby and arrows now. (Actually already did today, but of course there’s plenty more I could talk about with them.)

Have a good day, all who read this.

  5. Yesterday we finished LWW, as I said. Today 3rd Arrow started reading Prince Caspian on her own.

    And kept reading…

    And finished it. 😉

I’ll start reading it aloud tomorrow to the younger ones. I suspect we won’t be done in a day, though. 🙂

  6. Good books and I look forward to reading them again soon. But right now we are at Plum Creek for the boy and the Borrowers for the girl. And thirteen year old is reading to me a story about trolls.

  7. The first one is written in a younger, simpler style, but the others seem more involved.

Someone on here (Michelle, I’m pretty sure) mentioned not liking Farmer Boy much. I liked it a lot. Almanzo seems to have had a good childhood, & had a desire to learn & work hard.

I was saddened to learn that later in life, Almanzo said his life had been one disappointment after another. Sometime while he was still young, & in his prime working years, he suffered permanent injury from an illness, which impeded his ability to work as hard as he needed & wanted to, & was at least partially responsible for the financial difficulties they struggled with for many years.

  8. Karen, depending on the child, of course, it seems to be preferred by my boys. More boys have read or requested to be read the series, than girls. Last year, the six year old girl enjoyed them. This year it is the eight year old boy. We were introduced to them when one of the boys was in third grade. He has since reread and reread them until they about fell apart and I purchased a new set for the younger ones, though one of the thirteen year olds is going through his copies.

  9. Well, we are off tomorrow for our little city adventure. Ideally, I would be able to leave the children with somebody for a time, (yes, I have done that for others) so I could focus on Mike, but that is not available. And with the special needs involved, probably for the best. The disruption will be challenging for them, but probably not as much as if I am totally gone for a week or two. God knows what He is doing. I will have husband’s sister to help with driving in the city, that is huge.

When I get back, I suspect this thread will have shut down. Not a bad thing, probably. It has been fun.

  10. Ditto Karen O, Mumsee.

I’ve been thinking lately about this thread, too, wondering where it’s going. It has been fun, but maybe the run is done, like Mumsee says?

For some reason, this reminds me of a saying my husband and some of his past coworkers would throw around: “It’s been real. It’s been fun. It hasn’t been real fun.” 😀

    See you later?

I tried typing a smiley without any words, as a response to your post, and when I hit “Post Comment” I got to a white screen that said something like, “Duplicate comment detected; it looks like you already said that!”

How long does this site keep track of those things? 😉

    Anyway, here’s a comment that I’ve never typed here……….

  16. Bless you, Karen. 🙂 I decided to come back early, as it didn’t seem right to go on a long media fast right after AJ’s mom died. This place is a blessing, and the more I thought about it, the more it seemed wrong for me to walk away at a time like that, when I could be here giving comfort.

  17. dropping in to say hello. Just not the same when we don’t have Mumsee. She should return soon though.
Trying to figure out my visa bill. Their totals and mine don’t match. hmmm… maybe should go to the bank tomorrow and ask some questions. Seems to be 80 dollars off.

  18. Howdy mumsee, so nice to have you back.
I had to go back to October to reconcile the visa bill and it was accurate. but I am glad that I checked, because it didn’t make sense.

  19. off to do some shopping and exploring at the shops that are 1/2 hour to an hour away. There is a Christian bookstore and a teacher store that I want to explore. I am thinking that I would like some poster size maps for my classroom to illustrate Bible stories.

  20. so pleased that they are going well.
Had a successful shopping trip. Got things that I needed. I was disappointed with the Christian book store, they had so little and I bought nothing there. I may go to CBD and see what I can find.

  21. Got new shoes at REI and used a discount coupon and a dividend (which was mostly from my daughter). The gal actually measured my feet and said that I was a larger size. So I will send back the shoes I ordered online for a larger size.
At the doctors last week they measured me and I was shorter. I think my height must have gone into my feet! 🙂

  23. I wore size 10 shoes when I got married 28 years ago, and now wear size 10 1/2 or 11, depending on the shoe. I’m kind of glad mine didn’t grow half a size with each child, because it would be hard to find size 13 women’s shoes. 🙂

  25. We are not making it to any of the services this year. Husband’s pain level is consistently between five and eight now so we are staying close to home. After the surgery, for about a week, it was rarely up to two.

  30. Just finished a newsletter. Not much news, but lots of pictures of my grandchildren. I sent it off to have it approved. I got so frustrated today as I got my rent check and it was about 400 short. I finally found out that they had sent some of the funds to the previous renter for his security deposit. I have some big bills I am trying to save for and was counting on that money. No more spending for me for a while.

  31. To bed at 11:30; still awake at 12:00. Asleep sometime after that, and up again at 4:30.

Still awake after 5:00. Groan. If I wake up in the night and don’t fall back to sleep within a few minutes, I’m usually awake for about two hours (sometimes more).

Two hours from 4:30 will be 6:30. Alarm’s set for 7:00.

Short night, and probably a long day…

I hate when this happens on a Saturday night/Sunday morning.

And and and. I usually get to, Thank You, God, for all of Your blessings (toss turn) Thank You for….zzzzzz…….Never awake enough to concentrate into prayer but not asleep either. Until suddenly, I wake up and it is later.

  33. No nap for me, Jo. I’m not much of a napper, unless I am exceedingly tired or very sick.

Went to church with Lee, then we spent the afternoon together, with him working on his orders, & me on my laptop. We took some time to watch a couple of our shows (recorded). A pretty nice day.

  34. I fell asleep briefly around seven o’clock tonight. Not a good time for a nap, but I was quite tired from poor sleep last night, and other factors. We’ll see if that messes up my nighttime sleep.

But like Mumsee points out, I can use any insomnia I might have to pray for folks. Tonight I might remember to do that before I go type on a blog a rant about sleeplessness. :-/

A friend was supposed to come today and stay for several days. I prayed that somehow she would be delayed as I was so tired. She called this morning to say that she had a cold and would try to come tomorrow. Such a relief. I need a day between company!

  42. I see we’re up to 8th now on the list of ten top posts. Good job, ladies!

Has anyone noticed that December 24, 2014 is often on that list, too? (It’s not at the moment, though.) I clicked on it the other day, wondering if there was another secret room going that I didn’t know about.

However, there weren’t a huge number of posts — I don’t remember how many; less than 100, for sure — and I think the last comment was on December 25.

So how has it stayed on the top posts lists so long? I wonder if it simply has gotten enough page clicks to stay there?

Maybe AJ can explain it if he happens along to the secret room. 🙂

  43. It stays there because it’s still active. It goes by how many times someone clicks it over a period of a week. When you stop it will drop off. I should say IF you guys ever stop. 🙂
