  1. Except I see that now that the comments are in the four-digit range, there is a comma in the number. Which makes 1,001 lose its symmetry.

I’m just going to pretend 1001 has no comma. 🙂

  2. I am happy to report we are reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

I will be even happier to report when we actually finish it.

Not that I want it to be done, as in, say, “I wish this thing was over.”

We are enjoying the book. I just need to make it an everyday thing, reading from it. So my happiness in finishing it will stem from the fact that I did keep on going with a good thing and get it finished.

Then on to the next…and the next…and t…

  5. Peter – Emily is in LPN school, & they do have classes on Saturdays. Well, right now, & I guess until she graduates, they have “clinicals” on Saturday. That involves working in a nursing home, learning to use their skills on real patients.

As it turns out, we are indeed getting enough snow that the clinicals were cancelled for today. So, she’s making chocolate chip pancakes.

A certain little four year old boy is thrilled to have his mommy home, have chocolate chip pancakes, & see the large amount of snow we’re getting. 🙂

  6. Kare – Congratulations also to your daughter!

Emily is doing very, very well in LPN school, & we are so proud of her. Although she is surprised by how well she is doing, her dad & I are not surprised at all. She’s a smart cookie. (So is Chrissy.)

  8. Well, Miss Nose-up-in-the-air…

er, hi Cheryl! Glad you happened along to the trendy room we have here. With 40 times as many posts as that other daily thread, this is where it’s shakin’. 😉

  9. I was going to say this on today’s daily thread, but since part of this thread’s beginnings was teasing a certain Californian about the weather, I’ll tell you this: It’s as cold here today as an LA dog park at night, 50°F.

  10. I know that feeling, Jo. Spent a lot of time trying to comfort Forrest when he was a baby. A little while after they moved in with us, he came to feel secure, & would no longer cry when his mommy left.

Hawaii should be interesting. I will probably share a bedroom with a 3 and 5 year old. They are very noisy and emotional. I will need to find a way to have my quiet space.

  12. I’m so retro, I don’t have a cell phone at all.

Since I don’t drive anymore, whenever I go out I am with someone who does have a cell phone.

Hubby says he may get me one sometime this year, if we can afford it.

  13. Hello, all. I don’t have a flip phone, or a smart phone, either. I do have a dumb phone on which I can call or text and probably do some other things that I don’t know how to do. Like take pictures. I know it does that; I just haven’t done it yet.

That is my contribution for the day on this thread.

Oh, except — have there been comments every day since 12-20-14 on this post? I suppose I could go back and look, but I don’t really have time. I imagine the answer is yes, with a possible exception around Christmas.

Someday when I have nothing to do, I’ll check. 🙂

  14. 6 Arrows – A while back (I think on this thread), you mentioned something about comment numbers. I forgot to ask you then – do you see comment numbers? I don’t.

    Like

  15. Karen, I don’t see comment numbers like there used to be on WMB (for example, this comment would be 1,032 on this thread if no one sneaks in as I type this).

However, if you hover your mouse over “January 26, 2015 at 2:32 pm” next to your name on your previous post, then look down in the bottom left corner of your computer screen, you will see this:

    wanderingviews.com/2014/12/20/our-daily-thread-12-20-14/comment-page-6/#comment-97739

So it looks like your 2:32 comment was the 97,739th comment on the blog. That’s funny, though, because I just read today’s daily thread and see that AJ said Cheryl’s first comment was the 69,000th comment. I wonder if all comments, spam or not, are included in the higher count I see when I hover over the date of a comment?

Did I answer your question or muddy the waters? 😉

    Like

  16. I can see the comment total at the top of the comment section, though. For example, right now, while I’m typing, it says 1,032 thoughts on “Our Daily Thread 12-20-14”, so I’m pretty sure when I post this, it will be the 1,033rd comment, but I won’t see that number next to the comment.

    Does that help? 😉

    Like

  17. Oh, okay. I was aware of seeing the total number of comments for the blog by hovering over the date, but I mistook something you had written as seeing individual comments numbers. And I was thinking the same thing about AJ’s comment to Cheryl, & what I see below.

  18. Alright, so in a little moment of boredom, I decided to go back and check whether there’s been at least one comment each day on this thread since 12-20-14.

    Yes, there has. 😉

For those who love trivia, here are a few related statistics (and, no, I didn’t count how many comments there were each day). 🙂

Page one (comments 1-200) filled up over the course of only two days, Dec. 20 & 21.

    Page two: Dec. 21-29

    Page three: Dec. 29 – Jan. 1

    Page four: Jan. 1-7

    Page five: Jan. 7-23

    Page six so far: Jan. 23, 24, 25 & 26.

Just so you know, that will be on the test.

  22. My husband and I had always had our taxes done by others until it got simpler after I was no longer self-employed (when I resigned from piano teaching twelve years ago). Then I did our own taxes until 2nd Arrow started her college education a few years ago, which made preparing our taxes more difficult again. She’s done with school now, but I am self-employed again since I started teaching piano last year. So we’ll continue with the preparer we have. She’s good, and was the preparer my husband was going to even before we got married 28 years ago!

We’re still waiting for one thing to come in the mail that is needed for tax purposes, which should be coming in the next week or so, then we’ll go get our taxes done.

  33. Good morning, all. It has been a busy week this past week and appears to be continuing. We are off to Moscow again today, for the sixth time in the past eight days or so. It is a three and a half hour space of driving I have not scheduled into my routine. But well worth it for the time spent with my dad and stepmom.

And my children were born in 84, 85, 87 and 94. First grandchild in 2009. Second one in ‘11. Then ‘12 and ‘14. I guess I should come back here and claim one of those.

  36. Olga Korbut came to our town and we had a parade for her. She wanted to see another Moscow. Now that stepmom is out of the hospital and daughter is there to help them out, it looks like our travels to Moscow will slow down. We still hope to get up there. My dad still declines our offer of a place to live. You don’t suppose it is the eight children still living here…

  37. My sisters and I would try to do what we called “The Olga Korbut thing”, where, when she was on the balance beam, she’d do a back bend, then bend her elbows, lowering her arms and then her chest so it rested on the beam. In that position she could look at her feet ahead of her on the beam.

I’m sure that makes no sense, but if you saw her beam routines, you might know what I’m talking about. I’m trying to picture it in my mind. It would be easier if I could try to do it again myself, pausing after each move to come back and type on here exactly what I did, but, let’s face it, at age 52, I won’t be going there. 😉

  43. I suspect that is part of why my dad is not terribly interested in moving here. Besides the thought of giving up his home of the past twenty six years and the town in which he has lived for the past fifty years to a home with a probably schizotypal thirteen year old and eight other children of varying needs. Might be a bit of a brake.

  55. Daughter has been so pleasant the past few days. I don’t know why but am certainly enjoying it. I asked her yesterday, why she decided not to go to public school. When she went to the speech therapist, she felt the therapist was treating her like a baby. The therapist gave her stickers and that was such a distraction for her, that she was unable to do the work. That got the therapist angry with her. She does like stickers, but not in that context. The younger ones love stickers.

What is weird to me is when I feel that dizzy, spinning sensation while sitting or lying down. (It seems more understandable when I am standing.) When that happens, I grab the desk or arms of the chair, or grab onto the bed. Usually passes quickly, but I do have some days when I feel dizzy all day long.
