  1. We used to think so but have worked diligently and prayed diligently, to help him develop better choices. He has come a long way but still is far. I no longer consider him a danger to little boys, though that could certainly come back. He says he no longer thinks that way, but has not said the same about little girls. A psychiatrist told us, with his older brother, that hanging out at the pool, watching more mature body shapes in their bikinis, would help him reset. (Is that disturbing or what?) And I suspect the same is true of younger brother, who is in public school and therefore has easy access to the internet and other children’s phones and pics and FB. He has ample time to see the “more mature body shapes”. But, I have a requirement to see he does not hurt my little folk or give my other fifteen ideas. I also am compelled to warn other people because I would want to be warned.

  2. And come here often to ask for prayer for more wisdom.

But things are going well for him now. Other than quitting his job with no notice and going to the swimming pool when we had not signed him in (and the teens at the pool letting him in without permission) and other normal teen behavior. His new employer is happy with him from the outside reports I am getting. He got home in a timely fashion yesterday so he could get started on his laundry, which he had not done in three weeks, without a reminder that Wednesday afternoon is his laundry day. Husband still says the next two years will be the toughest we have had. I don’t agree.

  3. Jo, between the phone and computer issues you’ve been having, and my email problems early in the week (I couldn’t access it for a couple days, getting a warning page instead), I’m wondering if you’ve received any emails from me in the last couple days? My system’s been acting funky lately, and I don’t know if I’m getting everything sent to me, and if everything I send out is getting to its proper destination. If you didn’t hear from me via email, could you let me know here and I’ll try to resend. Thanks.

  4. A beautiful day in the neighborhood.

Jo, it sounds like you are having a rather rough time getting situated. If it turns out that driving off into the middle of nowhere to visit me does not fit into your plans, I will understand. I don’t want to add to your stress level and it is a long drive out here, Not exactly on the way to any place. I would love to have you, but it is not necessary. Let me know.

I am looking forward to being there, Just keep the snakes away and realize that I don’t know what time zone I am on.

Last summer we barely had any rain, after a winter when we didn’t have much snow, I think. Then we were in a serious drought. I think we’ve pretty much pulled out of the drought now, especially with this rainy summer.

There is also the other box for emails about new posts. When this blog started, I had checked that, but then didn’t really need those emails since I check the blog each day. I think the way I got rid of those was by going to the bottom of the email & looking for an unsubscribe or similar kind of button.

I figured this secret room thread, having fewer comments per day, would be the one on which I could get caught up the quickest. And probably find things to pray about, too, as it’s a good place to sometimes share things that might not be as likely to be mentioned in the more high-traffic areas of the blog.

  49. We told him last night that, should he turn up positive again, we will not have a problem removing him from school and putting him to work. Or moving for a time to get him away from his “friends”.

I had suggested we hire a plane ride for him to take him out to the wilderness for a six month survival experience. We would leave him instructions to make sure to hang his food in a tree far from his camp. But, I don’t suppose we can do that….He needs to get away from the internet, video games, and drugs, among other things. Those are hard to come by in the wilderness.

    Like

  50. You live pretty close to the wilderness. I don’t even think you need to hire a plane. Something like that would be good for him.
Or you could all just go live in the wilderness together.

They also do the ranch chores and have a high school. My son was an intern there for two years. The interns are 24/7, but they get a day off each week. So the students are always with someone.

  52. I was just thinking of letting him go by himself. In the past, I have taken all of the chldren camping. Not usually to the wilderness but into the National Forest where nobody else was and that was really good for them. But with him, it does not seem wise for me to take them camping as he cannot be contained well enough. But he could go by himself. Though I think he is scared of mountain lions. The one time he did leave the property by himself, he saw tracks and never left again. But he does ride his bike or walk to town and there are lions between here and there.

If they respond, I continue, if not, I try again in a few months. I now have pretty good contact with the oldest four, as in everything from four times a week with daughter to once every three months with a couple of sons. But we don’t do much face to face visiting. I wondered how that would work if we bought the house across the street from daughter. We all seem to enjoy our privacy. 70. Actually, Jo, I was amazed at how much more space we had once eighteen year old moved out. We were able to move eleven year old into that room and sixteen out of the dining room. Then of course, the cabinets went into the extra kitchen, the grey table was emptied and all school supplies for downstairs were put on the top bunk, leaving the study area available and getting rid of the grey table. Which then allowed the foosball table to move over to the dining room. Now the house is nearly empty! Ok, not quite.

If we do bring in some children like that, they would be older as in fourteen and up and they would have earned the position, as in, they know how to behave. They would cook their own meals together and clean up together. They are looking for a cultural change so might end up outside in tents before being taken up to the mountains to camp. A lengthy list has been developed of men interested in coming to teach orienteering, fishing, canoeing, firewood gathering, etc, so the young folk would be guided into positive effort and be closely supervised. They would come with a chaperone. So, we would provide the place, others would provide the work. Some might even choose to sleep in the hunting mansion….

OK, not really, because the doorknob to the door that leads to the bedroom was fine, but the door to the hallway wouldn’t unlock when I tried to leave the bathroom that way. The lock on the doorknob kept going round and round and round without unlocking the door.
