Good Morning!
Only 16 days until Christmas. No pressure….. 🙂
Today’s header photo is from Donna. 🙂

On this day in 1793 “The American Minerva” was published for the first time. It was the first daily newspaper in New York City and was founded by Noah Webster.
In 1848 American author and creator of “Uncle Remus and Brer Rabbit,” Joel Chandler Harris was born.
In 1958, in Indianapolis, IN, Robert H.W. Welch Jr. and 11 other men met to form the anti-Communist John Birch Society.
And in 1990 the first American hostages to be released by Iraq began arriving in the U.S.

First up today, some Pentatonix, from PTXofficial
This morning we have something a little different as well. Most of you know the song, but listen closely because the words have changed. Very clever, and very nicely done, from Fadi peter

Good morning, all. Good evening, Jo.
Becca and I have been up since 5:00, enjoying each other’s company. So glad God sent her to me! I feel so incredibly blessed to have been entrusted with the role of being her mommy. God is good, indeed!

After the Coverton clip, there is an opportunity to watch some flash mobs in malls.
I have never seen one, but would like to. The chances of that in Hendersonville are almost zero.

They are busy doing important things. I started the laundry but prefer not to go walk the dogs until it gets light enough to see the coyotes. One of my dogs is bite sized. You don’t have that problem with your pet rock.

Good (early) morning for me.
My gate is almost finished but he needs to come back this morning for a couple more hours — and I have an early (8:30 a.m.) meeting to cover. It’s still dark out. 😦
Ah, two of the best music videos going around on FB these days, I’ve seen & shared them both in recent weeks. Beautiful stuff.
The *wandering* dogs are freshly groomed and waiting for me & the Jeep to finish up at the gas station where we needed new windshield wipers just before the rains hit last week.
They looked so much worse within about 24 hours — wet and muddy, but still smiling and no doubt happier than when they were so clean and fluffy.

I won’t let the cat out until the sun comes up because of coyotes either.

My pet has spent millennia outside. It’s quite happy on the bookshelf.

I love my new gate, it’s very pretty (redwood). The old rickety one was quickly disintegrating, I was afraid I’d find a pile of sawdust in its place one of these days.
New one just needs the latch and some other hardware installed and it’ll be done.
Then I’ll need to stain it.

Interesting article on the filming of Unbroken:
http://www.theblaze.com/?story=the-moment-on-her-new-movie-set-that-caused-angelina-jolie-to-drop-to-her-knees-and-pray-for-a-miracle
“… (Zamperini’s daughter Cynthia) Garris believes that (director Angelina) Jolie has been profoundly impacted by Zamperini’s faith and said that she believes it might have been God’s plan for the actress to discover her father’s story.
“’I think maybe in God’s plan for Angelina, she was supposed to find Louie and make this movie to find her way to a life that would encompass the Almighty,’ she said. …”

I tried earlier to say that Mumsee got a handicap in order to take 57 so early.

Glory! Rain!
An enormous storm is moving in Wednesday night, even my brave husband is talking about staying home to work on Thursday.
Hmmm. I was just thinking of going Christmas shopping. Never mind. 🙂

My dogs have never experienced snow actually falling (until today, that is, on the header) — but I have taken them to our local mountains when there’s been lots of snow on the ground.
But they were a little freaked out. They didn’t want to walk on it. 🙂

So, Michelle, when are you getting that new dog. Seems like you have lots of time now. Really, though, your life is so full, it makes sense not to add to it. Just amazed at your energy so thought I would throw out another energy drain.

So how much rain did you California people get last week?
Chas, I was on here really briefly earlier (as you noticed), but I had to drive my daughter to work and then go shopping.
Plus I had nothing of importance to say.

Our Nor’easter arrived overnight. Everything was covered in ice this morning. Now it’s just rain, and then a few inches of snow will finish it up later tomorrow.
It’s a good thing it’s been warm and coming down as mostly rain. 3-4 inches of rain equals a lot of snow. 😯

Musical Advent Calendar – Day 8: The word ‘carol’ is from the Old French, a type of medieval dance. This is my favorite French carol, “Noel Nouvelet”:
Christmas comes again, Noel sing we here,
People of faith, give thanks to God on high!
Sing we, “Noel” for the newborn King.
Christmas comes again, Noel sing we here.
The angel said, “Shepherds go from here.
Let your hearts rejoice and your souls dwell in rest.
In Bethlehem, you will find the Lamb.”
In Bethlehem, they found as he had said,
They found the Child, with Joseph and Mary.
In place of a cradle, a manger held the Child.
Soon the kings, by the bright star on high
From the east where they had left their homes
To Bethlehem they came in early morn.
One brought gold, one brought frankincense;
One other still to Jesus myrrh offered
The stable now seemed to be a paradise.
Here is my God, my saviour Jesus Christ,
For he has done a great accomplishment
Of saving us, by His precious blood.

Irony- Around here there is a Salvation Army Kroc Center, paid for by the Krocs, founders of McDonald’s. it’s a community center with a modern health club. I realized the other day what an irony that the people that helped cause the obesity crisis are now using their riches to get people healthy. I guess they feel guilty.

Shopping health insurance…grrrr! Sure costs a lot more than any gifts I could give. I just don’t understand adding the extra stress to Christmas shopping. People with little time off from work to shop will have to choose between shopping for presents and shopping for health insurance. This may be a year when cash becomes the main present under some folk ‘ s trees. It’s called Going green for Christmas thanks to the necessity of health insurance shopping.

We’ll all be in the same boat soon enough with medical insurance, janice — I’m surprised our company continued to sponsor a work plan for 2015, considering we’re up for sale. But this could be the final year for that, depending on what happens next year to us. Not looking forward to it.

We have a problem. We like to have the children learn about finances before leaving home and toward that end, they each have accounts. Checking, long term saving, and short term saving. With the savings accounts came ATM cards. You may recall the lesson learn when they went to a town and had to check the amount they had in their accounts. Repeatedly over a three hour period. At a cost of several dollars per look. And the one who tried to take some money out but got more than he planned (twenty rather than ten) and tried to stuff the extra back in the machine. Well, anyway, we learned a while back that one of the children had access to not only his accounts but to everybody’s, including ours. This is because nobody under eighteen is allowed to get his own account by bank rules. We got that fixed and now we find that two others are now having access to everybody’s accounts. Nobody has taken from the others but it is not a good idea. They even have access to the parent’s money. Seems like it would not be this difficult.

These dark days of December are hard to bear…grrr…especially while shopping for health insurance. I know, I am a broken record on the subject. I’m singing, “I’ve Got the Shopping for Healthcare at Christmas Time Blues.”
I talked to my friend, Karen, who had the knee surgery. She is better, but one of their cats, Cupcake, died. 😦 She had just eaten a half can of cat food as did their other cat. In a little bit she made an unusual sound and fell over. My friend’s husband was patting the kitty and she purred and died within about five minutes from either a stroke or heart attack. She was a very overweight cat. I am so thankful it did not happen while I looked after them over that week in the summer.

How did they get access to the accounts? Is this something the bank can help you with?

I have never heard that a child younger than 18 can’t have a bank account.
It may be that an adult has to sign for him, but he can have an account.

I thought they had children’s accounts for children. Of course, my children are grown.
I think it is unfair to blame the owners of MacDonalds for obesity. That is just another way we don’t take responsibility for ourselves, IMO. To think they gave that money away out of guilt is also an assumption of motives. None of us can know another’s motives. I think it is sad to malign the people who have given such gifts to many communities.

Michelle, why can’t you get a dog with the cat? A puppy might be non-threatening, unless the cat might hurt him. 😦
My long overdue physical is done, mammogram getting set up for January. Last time I went in for blood work etc., though, was only 2 years ago, so I don’t really think that’s a horrible delay …
I voted today, we had one race to decide on a special ballot (to fill the legislative seat of a state politician who was caught in some misdeeds & had to resign). Very Democratic district, but there was a Dem running whom I know and think would do a great job, so I voted for him. But the frontrunner has poured tons of money into it, so he’ll probably manage to win instead.
Can’t imagine more than a handful of people voted since it’s in the middle of the run-up to Christmas and that was the only thing on the ballot.

Husband has been to the bank a number of times to get it resolved. It would have been easier if they had their own accounts, as we did as children. But the bank insists they cannot have their own, it must be branched from the parents’. We first ran into this about fifteen years ago when we tried to get one for our now twenty seven year old.
