Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks-Week 15

Okay, some of you asked for it, here it is. Since Tychicus suggested a 7 game format this time, I figured, why not? I could add the “Pillow Fight of the Year”, according to Ryan McGee of ESPN.com, between two perennially bad teams. But I wouldn’t want this season of Joy and Goodwill to be spoiled. So, here are the 7 8 chosen games, all a championship of some sort. The rankings are the Playoff Committee rankings. 

1.  #7 Arizona  vs.   #2 Oregon– This could be Arizona’s first ever solo PAC-12 championship. And Oregon has only 1 loss – to Arizona.

2. Oklahoma State vs. #20 Oklahoma – The Sooner State bragging rights are on the line, but not much else except maybe a better bowl game.

3. #1 Alabama vs. #16 Missouri – SEC Championship. For the 2nd year of its 2 years in the conference, Mizzou has beaten the odds and made it this far. Will they go all the way? Stay tuned.

4. #4 Florida State vs. #11 Georgia Tech – ACC Championship. Personally, I don’t think FSU deserves the #4 ranking, since all too often they have had to win it in the last second to much lesser competition.

5. #13 Wisconsin vs.  #5 Ohio State – The B1G Championship. This could put OSU into the playoff picture, especially if one of the top 4 loses.

6. Fresno State vs. #22 Boise State – The Mountain West Championship. Yeah, I know, not much riding on this one except a 2nd rate bowl invitation. Too bad Boise can’t get into a more respectable conference.

7. #9 Kansas State vs. #6 Baylor – The de-facto Big 12 “Championship”. One of these teams could be in the playoffs as well. This is our tie breaker. Guess the winner and the score.

    Missouri- yes, the upset is overdue. their luck runs out this week. don’t worry though, they’ll still be top 4
    Georgia Tech- again, overdue. the skin of the teeth thing ends this week.

  3. Okay. I can wait a week.

    1. Bear Down, Arizona! The story behind that slogan is similar to, but older than “Win one for the Gipper”, just not as famous. Here’s the story from the U of A website.
    2. Oklahoma – I really don’t care much who wins this, but the Sooners are a good team. Not great, but good.
    3. #1 Alabama vs. #16 Missouri – I do care who wins this. Mizzou-RAH! Time to bring the SEC crown up North.
    4. Georgia Tech – I’m going out on a pretty solid limb here, considering the above mentioned struggles FSU has had this year.
    5. Wisconsin – Another limb. OSU has proven in the past several years that they are overrated.
    6. Boise State – Because I like Mike and Mumsee.
    7. Kansas State 37-24 – I don’t really care for either team, but Kansas is not Texas, so I’ll go with this one.
    8. And of course: GO NAVY! BEAT ARMY! (I do wonder why the Midshipmen have a goat for their mascot, though.)

    Rant on: Why, if Bama or Oregon come back to win does it show heart, but if FSU does it shows”luck”?
    Why are one loss teams ahead of an unranked team? The weak schedule argument doesn’t work…Bama had at least 3 weak sisters, Oregon played SoDakota and Wyoming and TCU hasn’t faced a single top ranked defense all year. FSU has gone undefeated(again!) while wearing a bullseye…they have beaten 5 defenses ranked in the top 20 nationally and OkSt, Notre Dame andFlorida may be down this year, but were top notch when scheduled…The ACC can’t be that weak…they blew out the SEC last week…

  18. Um, guys? We’re getting beat by the ladies. Three of them are tied with 4 games, and kbells is the better of them since she got within 5 points of the tiebreaker. But don’t feel bad. some of you have 3 correct, while one of us has not gotten even 1 game correct. My only solace? Boise State is ahead 21-0 at the half. So I’ll at least get that one.

    Speaking of BSU- I wish the team wore a color that didn’t blend in with the field so well. I mean a blue field is one thing, but when the uniforms are the same color, the players almost disappear on my lo-def TV screen. Couldn’t the shirt and pants be different colors form each other? Orange shirt, blue or white pants would make it much easier on my eyes.

  20. Well, I guess the aesthetic picks work sometimes. Current standings have Kbells, Janice and 6 Arrows tied with 5. All three have the tie breaker winner correct, with kbells edging out the other two in the closest score. She has 5, Janice 24 and 6 Arrows 31. So, since kbells chose Army and 6 Arrows chose Navy, that game will decide the winner. Janice can’t win since she didn’t pick the Army-Navy game. If she had chosen Navy, she would edge out 6 Arrows. Do we let her chose since it is 6 days until the game?
