Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks-Week 9

Another week of guessing folks. Who will come out the winner this time? Pick away!

Deadline this week is Friday @ 9PM EDT Remember: You have to guess all ten games, unless you are so confident that you’ll win by guessing fewer than that. Just don’t be embarrassed like several Top 10 teams have been this year.

1. BYU @ Boise State – The Broncos play on Friday night a lot. Is the high school season over in Idaho?

2. San Jose State @ Navy – Will the long road trip by the Spartans help the Middies?

3. Michigan @ #8 Michigan State – If this were at Michigan’s home field, it might make a difference in the outcome. But the Spartans at #8? Hard to beat that.

4. Texas @ #11 Kansas State – KSU ranked, Texas not? Inconceivable!

5. #3 Ole Miss @ #24 LSU – Usually LSU is the higher ranked team. Odd year.

6. South Carolina @ #5 Auburn – Sorry Chas. I think SC has to play another Tiger.

7. #4 Alabama @ Tennessee – Tide came back Saturday. Can they do it again?

8. Vanderbilt @ Mizzou – Hopefully the right Tigers show up this time. Can’t be shut out at home twice in a row.

9. Pillow Fight Kent Stae (1-6) @ Miami (OH) (1-7) – I think Kent State did well against Army at home, but can they beat a lesser team on the road?

10. Tie Breaker: (guess winner and score) #15 Arizona @ Washington State – Hopefully Arizona won’t be embarrassed by the perennial PAC-12 cellar dweller.

  1. 1. Boise (for Mumsee . . . and cuz I just can’t root for BYU)
    2. Navy (it’s a good color on my husband)
    3. Michigan (my husband’s alma mater, though he roots for IU)
    4. Texas (for my brother Jeff)
    5. #3 Ole Miss (might as well)
    6. Auburn
    7. Tennessee (such a lovely state)
    8. Vanderbilt
    9. Miami
    10. Tie Breaker: (guess winner and score) #15 Arizona @ Washington State — Arizona 28, Washington State 1.

  2. Chas’ Wild Guesses:

    Go Boise
    Navy
    Michigan State
Texas. I just have a hunch on this.
Ole Miss. I will be happy to see this.
South Carolina. I’m going to be the only one here. But I can’t bet against the Gamecocks.*
Bama. But I would like to see the Vols take them. Won’t happen.
Mizzou. But I wouldn’t put money on this. Vandy has a good team.
    Miami. Don’t know why.
    Arizona 14/3

    * I once bet $.50 against my home team in high school. I lost, but the game was ruined for me since I was hoping against the NCHS Blue Devils. Never again have I bet against the home team. Fifty cents wasn’t trivial money for me in 1947.

  3. Cheryl- Is your tie breaker a typo? There is no possibility of having 1 point as your final score in football. 2 is the lowest non-zero score you can have.

  4. My choices:
Boise – I can’t go for BYU either, probably for the same reason Cheryl can’t.
Navy – Go Navy (Beat whomever!)
    Mich State
KSU – I never go for a team with the word “Texas” in it.
    Ole Miss
Auburn – Sorry Chas. I’m a realist in this one.
    Bama
    Mizzou-RAH!
    Kent St.
    Arizona 35-14

  5. I will have to do better than last time. That was just a little embarrassing….
    Boise
    Navy
    Michigan State
    Kansas State
    Ole Miss
    Auburn
    Alabama
    Mizzou
    Kent State
    Washington State 45-6

  6. Sorry for the delay, folks. I have not had a chance to check the final scores of the late games, and I left the thumb drive with the spreadsheet I use for this in a place I cannot reach right now. So, you’ll have to come back here tonight or tomorrow. Hey, no complaints. After all, we waited 6 weeks for the results of the 2000 presidential election, so we can wait an extra day. Or you can figure it out for yourself!

  7. I made it way too easy this week. Five (5) people got 9 correct! They were AJ, kbells, Idaho Mike (newcomer’s luck?), TRW and RickWeaver. Of those, Ricky gets back in his winning ways after several weeks in a slump. His tie breaker guess was only 20 points off the actual score (it was a high scoring game! And there were several of those.)

    The game results are:
    Boise State 55 – BYU 30
    Navy 41 – San Jose St. 31
    Michigan St 35 – Michigan 11
    Kansas St 23 – Texas 0
    LSU 10 – Ole Miss 7
Auburn 42 – So. Carolina 35 (so close, yet so far)
    Alabama 34 – Tennessee 20
    Mizzou 24 – Vanderbilt 14
    Miami, OH 10 – Kent St 3
    Arizona 59 – Wash St 37

    Our scores:
Those mentioned above 9. The tiebreaker results are (lowest wins):
Ricky 20; Idaho Mike 37; kbells 40; AJ 51 and TRW n/a (missed the winner)
    Other scores:
    IBNO and I 8 correct
Mr kbells, Chas and Mumsee 7
    Tychicus 6
    Cheryl 5

Congrats to Ricky Weaver! Let me know which game is the tie breaker for next week. Hopefully, AJ will be able to post it before the weekend.
