Good Morning!
The Weekend is here!!!
Today’s header photo is from Cheryl.
And I believe a 6th Arrow has a birthday, and a 1st daughter has a 1st anniversary this weekend. So Happy Birthday, and Happy Anniversary!

Suppose you don’t do nothing best?
That means you do something best, but that’s not the way we mean it in NC;-)
Not really, most of the people around here are retired professionals from some where else.

Morning and evening! I am in a different time zone. I did not realize that when I went to the first session at 7 pm yesterday and no one was in the room. LOL, and I had thought I might not find a good seat. I had my choice.

I just heard a man on the radio say that most oak trees don’t start producing acorns until they’re about 15-20 years old.
I didn’t know that!
They’re supposed to be experts.
Is anyone else up yet?
I know it’s Saturday, but it’s almost eight.

If we believe what the Bible says, there are certain promises we never consider because they don’t pertain to us. However, they make interesting speculation. In Jeremiah 35, the story of the Recabites is told. The final words are a promise that there will always be a descendent of Jonadab serving God.
That means that there is, somewhere, a descendent of Jonadab who is a pastor, missionary, seminary president, deacon, or someone, in some fashion serving God. Probably not always of the same descendents. But someone, somewhere.

I have told you before about my own personal World War II veteran. He is 90 today and I am off to his birthday party. Family has come in from around the country. He doesn’t know. He just thinks his 4 children are taking him and their mother out to lunch.
His grandson is College Boyfriend. He will be here with New Wife and their 6 year old. I didn’t lose the 20 pounds I intended to lose before seeing them but decided not to worry. I still have almost as must hair as I did in college and he has none.

No plans for this weekend. There is a local fair going on, but we have only attended once or twice in my memory. Quiet folk, my family, and very non-competitive – in everything but debates with words. Yesterday, there was a family funeral, which was very uplifting it its focus on Christ, and afterwards we spent the day visiting with relatives.

We have a rally car race in town (and it’s in NBC too) plus an import car show with 300 cars in our little waterfront downtown area today. But it actually looks like we could get a little bit of … Dare I say it? … Rain????

Yep, four birds. Anyone know what they are? 🙂 They’re juvenile goldfinches. A few of the youngsters (not the ones in this photo) have a yellow dot on their chest. I don’t know if it’s older ones that have the yellow spot, or males, or what, but these all seem just to have muted feathers, little or no bright yellow.
When the goldfinches threw their party on the coneflowers, these were straight back and the easiest shot. Adult males (and a few females, plus some other juveniles) settled in on other flowers, but they weren’t as good an angle for my camera. But these are also on coneflowers that still have some of their purple petals, and the other blossoms mostly don’t have any petals left.

I have a lot of (monarch? they’re orange) butterflies flying around my lavender today. 🙂
Cleaning out some kitchen cupboards, this is a long overdue chore which I’ve put off for too long. It will feel good to have things better organized again. And it’s so nice to have the temperatures out of the 90s (it’s in the low 70s today but with a cool breeze and cloudy) — a heat wave isn’t very conducive to housework, at least for me.
Meanwhile, every now and then I can hear the whine of the race cars from my house. The dirt track was set up on one of the far piers overlooking the ocean, but since our town is pretty compact, nothing is ever *that* far away. 😉

Oh, and last night I caught a glimpse of what looked like a GIANT raccoon clamoring up the tall honeysuckle bush that lays right up next to my long french-door style side windows (I really do need to get the bush cut back and down — thinned out).
One side of the window was open and I heard such a ruckus out there, so I got a flashlight and spotted the biggest, fluffiest, fullest striped tail disappearing upward. 🙂

Mr B for choked up. He made a speech about living to be 90 but said the most important thing is to make until next March 15. He and Mrs B will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary.
Later he was talking to me and said he didn’t want to hurt my feelings but he couldn’t remember my name. I told him at 90 he was entitled to forget my name as long as he didn’t forget me.
I liked College Botfriend’s New Wife. When I left I hugged her told her I was glad to have met her and to take good care of him. He is one of the good ones.

Weekend plans? Got up early this morning and left the house at 8. We drove two hours to Iowa City for the funeral of Mrs L’s aunt. Then got back home at 3 for D3’s birthday party that started at 2. She turns 20 on Monday. Our little girl has grown up. Why do children tend to grow up so fast? Since she shares a birthday with Bilbo and Frodo Baggins (characters from The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings), she had a hobbit party. The house now has several decorations from the movies. Busy day overall. But tomorrow is the Lord’s Day and we get to fellowship with our brethren, worshiping the lord together. And D2 is staying overnight (she planned the party).

Spent more time packing. I thought I had gotten rid of a lot of stuff. Obviously not enough. I guess we will rent the house we found last week. I told Mr. P that anything that needed to be in climate controlled storage could go in the smallest bedroom and we would just shut the door. He asked why I didn’t want to set that up as another bedroom. We will have one extra bedroom and it isn’t like we have a lot of overnight guests. Everything else can go in the two car garage.

My uncle (I never saw him dressed in anything else but overalls until his funeral 😦 ) had a farm in Iowa. That farm was where I slugged my boy cousin and knocked him down & I got in a lot of trouble that summer. He was such a cry baby. Besides he started it.
I was a charming little girl. 🙂

My relatives were farming folks, too. My brother still has a garden and cans food to keep up the family traditions. And he keeps chickens, too. I became more citified, and sorta sprang out of the coop. I really got tired of seeing lives so devoted to growing, preserving, harvesting, weeding, stringing, snapping, hulling, shucking, straining, and whatever else took up all my mother’s time so we never got to do fun things that my friends got to do.

My mother canned and froze food all summer. I have been dragged to more butter bean, pea, okra , corn, tomato and whatever else you can think of. I picked, snapped, shelled, and shucked. Tomatoes, corn, and okra make me itch.

We had a nice visit with my parents today, as well as my brother, sister-in-law and niece who were there, too.
My dad is doing reasonably well. He has decided against both surgery and steroid treatment to help with his back, and has found relief through non-surgical and non-drug routes. He was in good spirits today, and talks about how very blessed he feels that he is overall pretty healthy for a man his age (84).
I want to thank everyone who prayed for my requests I mentioned on the September 19 prayer thread (September 20 at 12:31 a.m.) The first three requests I outlined all went very well. The fourth one begins tomorrow, with new things being added into our homeschool routine.
Our children (the ones who are not graduated yet) have done a lot of their school time separately, as their ages are so diverse (17, 13, 10, and now 7). Tomorrow we begin a new thing that I hope will be long-term, where we spend more time doing educational things together. They’ll still have their separate school work, but other things, like reading aloud together, singing, and some other things I have in mind will be added. We’ve been too separated throughout the day, so I wish to remedy that situation.
Should be interesting with the variety of ages. 😉 Prayers appreciated as we embark on this endeavor, and wisdom, and stamina to stay the course.
The children will be beginning their piano lessons again tomorrow, as well, after having taken a break from it. So, lots of newness around here.
Finally, I just wanted to let you know I’ll be off the blog for the next two months. I’m playing in another piano show, scheduled for November 22, and I selected my music this weekend and will begin practicing in earnest now. Time at the piano will substitute for time at the computer. I can’t possibly do both and minister effectively to my family at the same time. But I do need some alone time to rejuvenate and energize me for service to my family, and playing the piano will fulfill that need in these next several weeks until the show.
Thank you for your prayers. Blessings to you all.

Donna, we got home around 5:30, and I immediately left to go to Bible study at church. I was only a few minutes late.
We were on Interstate 24 which goes near Lookout Mt. so we drove to the top to our son’s former college campus. I sent son a few photos from the school to surprise him. I got a photo of the classroom building that he was responsible for as team leader for his facilities group (kept up cleaning, etc.). I reminded him of the chicken in the elevator. He had to clean it up when someone left a raw chicken in the elevator. I know! Very strange! Yet memorable. 🙂
I also sent him a photo of the Starbucks across from Rock City.
I have to get Miss Bosley tomorrow. We are having a much quieter evening than usual.
