Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks Week-3

Prognosticators of the pigskin parade, here is your periodical opportunity to portray your penchant for predicting; your proof that you prefer to pretend you know more than your partners in the blogosphere. Ten games, one winner.

This week I tried to get teams from all over the country, so I hope everyone has a team they like below. The big game is in the SEC: Georgia and South Carolina.  The tie breaker was chosen by last week’s winner, Ricky Weaver. So far, he has done the winning while the rest of us do the whining.

So without further ado, here are the choices:

1. #6 Georgia @ #24 South Carolina

2. #9 USC @ Boston College

3. Boise State @ Connecticut

4. UCF @ #20 Missouri

5. Navy @ Texas State

6. Iowa State @ Iowa

7. Kentucky @ Florida

8. #12 UCLA vs. Texas*

9. Nevada @ Arizona

10. TB: Tennessee @ #4 Oklahoma Winner and final score

Entries due by 12 noon (EDT) Saturday, Sep. 13. Play on.

  1. 1. Georgia – No offense to Chas, but even on the road, Georgia is better than SC.
    2. USC – And this SC is better anywhere than BC
    3. Connecticut – I was surprised to see this one on the schedule. Do people in Connecticut even know that Idaho is a place in the US?
    4. Mizzu-RAH! – Tigers at home against a team from Florida that is not a gator or Seminole = no contest.
    5. Navy – I had to look up where Texas State is. I hadn’t ever heard of it. And I would not go for a team from Texas anyway.
    6. Iowa – I chose this one because of family connections to both schools. But the Hawkeyes are usually better than the Cyclones.
    7. Kentucky – I’m a Wildcat fan, even if it isn’t a team from Arizona.
    8. UCLA – This game seems to be a new tradition. Go Bruins!
    9. Arizona – No need to comment here. You all know my loyalties. Bear down, Arizona!
    10. TB: Oklahoma 51- 17. Might as well go for a high scoring game when it comes to Sooners at home against a lesser team (with apologies to Anlir who first got this thing going on the old site.)

  2. Chas’s wild guesses. I have half a chance because I don’t have to choose between Purdue and the Irish.

Gamecocks. All you people are wrong. Wait and see. OK, Go Gamecocks anyhow!
USC. Boston College does have a good reputation in the Northeast. But USC will win.
Go Boise. But Connecticut will challenge.
Missouri. Can I bet on Tigers?
Navy. but Texas State has put out good teams, Peter.
    Iowa. Don’t know why.
Florida. I expect the Gators will beat the Cats.
    Texas. go with the Longhorns.
    Arizona
    Oklahoma 24-14

When I tell Elvera that I have a football game Saturday. She says, “I don’t have to watch it, do I?” She doesn’t like the way they chase each other and throw them down. They’re not satisfied until they get them on the ground. “They run right into each other.”

  4. Good idea, Jo. That way others can double check my less-than-perfect record for accuracy (as seen in the first week when I mistakenly had Ricky Weaver getting a game wrong).

  5. I heard of a woman who went to her first football game and thought it was all about getting 25¢. She thought that because at the beginning of the game the guy in the black and white stripes tossed a coin in the air, and for the rest of the game the fans kept hollering “Get the quarter back!”

  6. Welcome RW’s son (TRW-AG). Some competition in the Weaver family will come down the the tie breaker. But what will I do if the score is 31-24? I guess it will be all woven in a tie. Weavers weave, don’t they? And the result is something “woven”. (No offense meant at the play on words with the name.)

  7. Rick Weaver wins again. He got 9 correct and beat his son in the tie breaker. The final score in that game was Oklahoma 34 – Tennesee 10. Ricky was 13 off the score, his son was 21.

By request of one who is far away (and has to pay for online time) the results of the other games are: (the first two games are the ones most people got wrong)
    South Carolina 38 – Georgia 35
    Boston College 37 – USC 31
    Boise State 38 – Connecticut 21
    Missouri 38 – UCF 10
    Navy 35 – Texas State 21
    Iowa State 20 – Iowa 17
    Florida 36 – Kentucky 30 (3OT)
    UCLA 20 – Texas 17
    Arizona 35 – Nevada 28

As stated above, Ricky and TRW-AG 9 with Ricky getting the tie breaker.
With 7 correct are IBNO, AJ, Kbells, and Chas.
    6 correct: Tychicus.
And yours truly had 5 (hey, it’s a dirty job, but someone has to be in the cellar).

So, Ricky, what game invovling a team from Texas will the tie breaker be this week?
