🙂 Lovely time with one of our daughters and her four children. We were able to visit my folks and spend a great time on the shore of Lake Superior. Climbing rocks, skipping and throwing them is quite entertaining for the grandchildren. Watching the bridge go up to let boats through the canal and standing under it, as well as driving over it, was fun for them, too. We even got “bridged,” which was fun for them. Of course, there was at least one who didn’t want to go and then didn’t want to leave. 😉
🙂 They even had fun just picking up plain old rocks off our dirt road. One was thrilled when we found a few blueberries left for him to pick.
🙂 The opportunity to read books and play games, building memories, is priceless.
🙂 Husband’s music jam played at a nursing unit yesterday. We had a 102 yr. old at our table. We know her daughter and SIL. The staff and residents seemed to enjoy it so much. The group plays lots of the old tunes these people aren’t able to hear much anymore. I can only imagine the memories that surface during the program.
🙂 Music jam and pot luck today with lots of fellow musicians (and appreciative audience members like me).
:-) I worked at the Lion’s Big Apple breakfast for five hours this morning.
🙂 All my family came from Greensboro. They are still down town taking in the Festival. I am home resting.
😦 I am tired of saying “Bacon or sausage.”
🙂 On the placemat was an ad that said, “ ATTENION Tomorrow, August 31, 2014, Addison Elizabeth Muller will be SIX years old.” It cost me $50, but it was worth it and it went to a good cause.
🙂 We fed over 750 people.
🙂 We had lots of good help from the Boy Scouts.
🙂 It’s Saturday and a 3-day weekend. I even get Labor Day off! Woohoo!
😦 Had to make a cop call anyway this morning after seeing lots of FB chatter about a pedestrian being hit (and possibly killed) late last night. Editor asked if I could make some calls for OT so I did. But nothing on the wires & cops and traffic have nothing on the books.
We had the pancakes all the time. Customers could choose pancakes if they wanted them.
It’s just eggs we ran short of.
Most didn’t complain. Some, such as Kiwanis and Elks just offer pancakes.
We advertise, “full country breakfast” and that’s what we serve.
Donna, you have to ask your momma what the pancakes do when we leave them alone. Suddenly there are a bunch of little pancakes just sitting there.
How we get little pancakes is beyond my limits of expertise.
😆
Pancakes come from the kitchen, Donna. I thought we went through this before. A little flour, some baking powder, some milk, some eggs, and suddenly, you have pancakes. Of course, add a bit of sugar and you have better pancakes. Add a bit of chocolate and you have way better pancakes.
I forgot to tell you about the hat. I almost never wear a hat because I look funny in a hat. I know that because my grandmother told me that when I was a kid. And she was right. But I
had to wear a hat and rubber gloves on the serving line. Everybody I knew laughed and made fun of me because of my hat. I look funny in a hat.
I used to have a baseball type hat. But I mislaid it somewhere and it is gone. So, I finished the summer without one. But one day, while we were at Myrtle Beach, off season, Elvera and I happened to be in a store. I saw a wide brim hat and said it was just the thing. I tried it on. It was at least a size too big for me. And it cost $20.00. So, I decided not to get it, but I kept talking to the guy. Finally he said, $5.00.
So, I have a hat that falls almost to my ears. But it’s just the thing for working around. I never wear a hat in public anyhow.
Except when I’m on the Lions serving line. It doesn’t do a thing to help my inferiority complex.
🙂 Here’s something my husband posted on Facebook (& I shared). (Please excuse the mistakes in writing.)
2005 I was diagnosed with prostrate cancer. My PSA was 34.07
In 2006 I went through radiation and lupron hormone therapy. That brought my PSA down to -05.
2014 had a blood test P S A 90.0, am now taking casodex to bring down P S A.
3 months later P S A down to 55.
Back in April I had 2 procedures done, one was a bone scan, cost $1531.00.
and a CAT scan cost $3725.00. We are uninsured because I am self employed and cannot afford the unaffordable Obama care.
I submitted an application for financial assistance 2 months ago.
Got back the results of the request today. My payment to the hospital will be 0.00.
They approve 100% financial assistance.
Can I here an Amen and a praise the Lord?
Also the Oncologist is not charging me either for now.
There is a modern retelling of Little Black Sambo, minus the offensive caricatures and the geographical anachronisms (tigers are only found in Asia and ‘ghee’ is a Indian type of food). It is called The Story of Little Babaji. I read it before having ever heard of the original and I found it absolutely delightful: http://www.amazon.ca/The-Story-Of-Little-Babaji/dp/0060080930
🙂 Some people just passed by on the road in front of our house and I heard this line of their conversation: “You don’t have to have a lot of money in order to be rich.”
Phos, that is so true. I’m feeling very wealthy right now taste testing the salsa I just made with produce from my garden. What an abundance that small plot has produced this year. We won’t have to plant tomatoes for 2 years!
🙂 No more driving 2 hours per day for my old job
🙂 Only 20 minute drive to my new job
🙂 Hoping I can learn quickly and do a great job
🙂 I love that my new job is in ministry support, and that the pay cut will be more than balanced out by lesser fuel costs for commuting.
😦 Sad to say goodbye to my old coworkers – two of them even cried. I couldn’t read the cards until I got home.
🙂 I will stay in touch with them
🙂 Lots of garden to harvest, salsa and pickles to make
🙂 Husband continues to improve, slowly. It seems like 2 steps forward, 1 ½ steps back, but at least he’s moving forward.
🙂 This blog and the friends on it

🙂 Daughter here visiting, as fun as ever. 🙂 🙂 🙂
🙂 Karen and I just learned we have a common friend–a Canadian pastor! The joy of FB.
🙂 God has answered Hillary’s needs, but I can’t talk about it beyond that for several weeks. Amazing. Of course.
😦 We still need rain in California.

You missed your chance Donna. We had bacon left, and sausage too. But ran out of eggs. We had to finish with pancakes.

As I recall, the tigers around the tree made butter but you are not allowed to tell that story anymore.
