  1. I wonder if and when the US will give the Kurds weapons and ammunition. South Viet Nam all over again? I am sick at the thought.

  2. Pastor Driscoll of Mars Hill Church in Seattle has been called to resign by a group of Christian leaders he founded. http://www.worldmag.com/2014/08/acts_29_to_mark_driscoll_resign_and_seek_help

I’ve read a number of articles about Driscoll and the only thing I’ve seen he did wrong was buy his way onto the NYTimes best seller’s list. Everyone else seems to be dancing around the issues, and its probably just as well I don’t know, but I’m not sure what the problem is that is requiring his resignation.

I guess I should be thankful someone somewhere is calling someone into accountability.

  3. There may be more to this than I understand because I haven’t visited the site, and intend not to. However, there’s a commercial on FoxNews that says you can fight terrorism by signing a petition on a website.

  4. My young liberal friend writes…

“Minimum wage was in fact supposed to be able to support a family of four on ONE minimum wage income in its original implementation. I’ll have to see if I can find that source again. It wasn’t ever supposed to be about only entry level or low skill employment so much as it was the lowest a company could legally pay a worker.”

Anyone here know anything about this? I replied that whatever the original intention of minimum wage laws, in actual practice (at least for the last few decades), minimum wage jobs have been low-skill, entry-level positions. People didn’t expect to be able to afford an apartment while making minimum wage, although some made it work.

  5. Hi Karen.

So does your young liberal friend thinks that a person working a low-skill, entry-level position should be able to support a family of four on his or her income?
