Prayer Requests 7-16-14

Does anyone have a request or praise to share today?

And it’s Wednesday, so don’t forget to pray for the Gambia.

Psalm 18:1-18

¹I will love thee, O Lord, my strength.

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.

The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me.

In my distress I called upon the Lord, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.

Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.

There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.

He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet.

10 And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind.

11 He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.

12 At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire.

13 The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire.

14 Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.

15 Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O Lord, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.

16 He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.

17 He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me.

18 They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the Lord was my stay.

  1. Set back. 😦

Oy. In the ER with Shane following a grand mal seizure at 3 this morning. Seizure was unusual in that he has never had one like this when we’ve been on a consistent dosage of Tegretol XR, as he still is. He was also unresponsive for a fairly long while postictal, which is what led us to call an ambulance. Of course, as soon as the firemen showed up, he immediately became alert. So he might have just been extremely tired.

It’s not uncommon for patients to have a few seizures after surgery then never have any more. The hamartoma giving up its ghost, I guess you could say. But the fact that it is his worst seizure type and the only type the meds usually control is concerning to us. The ER doc hopes to consult with Shane’s local neurologist soon, and Dave and I will see who we can get a hold of at Barrow’s today. We’ll know more about how big a deal this is after we speak to someone at Barrow’s.

Prayers are appreciated. This has been emotionally upsetting for Shane (not that you can tell, because he’s Shane), and especially for our younger son, Jared. Jared is often the one who sees Shane’s seizures first, runs and gets help, is awakened by the sound of his brother convulsing, etc. I know he wanted very, very badly to never have to see Shane like that again. He’s worried, and it’s hard to comfort him because I can’t promise him this will be the last time. I can tell him everything will be okay, because it will. But that’s not the same as never having to experience it again. Thanks, friends.

  2. As for me, thanks for your prayers yesterday. I spent a lot of time praying, thinking and if all else failed, research. About 4:30 I took a big breath and saw what to do–I think.

    Thank you.

  3. Praying Michelle.

I know how Jared feels to some degree. One of my brothers had epileptic seizures for a few years while growing up. I, like Jared shared a room with him. It can be very frightening. They weren’t frequent, but it put you on high alert for a month afterwards. I used to lay there until he was asleep most nights. It can be a heavy burden for a little brother, so I’ll keep him in mind too.

    Keep us updated.

  4. The latest from Lindsay:

Shane is back home. The MRI showed little swelling and normal bleeding for being one week post-op. We’re working on getting the images to Barrow in Phoenix so they can evaluate them, too, with their specific expertise.

Holding on to the hope that Shane’s brain is just continuing to heal following the trauma of surgery. No gelastic seizures (still) seems to be a good sign. We spoke to two of Shane’s AZ doctors and they’re monitoring everything very closely, but they’re not freaking out. This is not uncommon.

Thank you so much for your continued prayers and support. What a weird roller coaster, but we’re grateful for God’s mercies and trusting His plan.

  5. Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the many situations You see people through on a daily basis. Whatever the difficulty, we can look toward You, pray silently or wail loudly, read Your word, listen to hymns or praise music or instrumental, speak with other believers, or take a break in Your creation—so many various ways we can experience Your presence and comfort. Thank You!

Thank You for the complete mending of Shane. Help his brother with his struggles. Bless his parents with total faithfulness. Bless the doctors with wisdom regarding when to wait and when to act. Thank You for letting us witness You in action regarding healing miracles.

Thank You for Your continuing guidance of Michelle. She works so hard so she can produce the best writing to present Your blessed saint’s story in the most compelling way that will bring the most glory to You. Thank You for giving Michelle diligence, and a persistence to find excellence, and a heart to understand what You desire from her individual gifting. Bless her husband for being committed to hang in there during Michelle’s times of struggle to see her project to completion.

Please bless The Gambia today and all the upcoming week. You know the many needs of the people, especially concerning their spiritual conflicts. Help them to embrace Jesus as Savior and to give up worship of false gods of family traditions. Let Your light shine in the hearts of the people so they can know the promise of eternal life. Bless Ajisuun this evening. Give her extra feelings of knowing You are right there with her.

Please bless Mumsee and Mike and the Nest with any specific helps they need whether financial, health, transportation or social, etc. Please continue to make a good way for Mike to receive medical care and treatment that will be correct according to his condition. Ease any pain. Bless him as he does what is necessary to be a good provider for Mumsee and all at the Nest.

Bless Kim as she still deals with the housing dilemma. You know the needs. I trust in Your good provision.

Thank You, Lord, for going before me into tomorrow for my doctor’s appointment. Please let it be a routine exam, a good and encouraging visit with the doc. Help me to have good lab work with no surprises. I do thank You for my good doctor who seems to be thorough in her care.

Again, I ask for peace in Israel, an end to the missles, and perfection in defense systems. Please let Your peace reign and put down enemies of that nation.

    In Jesus’name, Amen
