  1. Morning all, welcome to Tuesday. I spent today in prayer and fasting using the format from Anne Graham Lotz. Very moving day of prayer and I ended it by getting out my hymnal and singing lots of hymns.

  2. I’m sure that in California you could get in trouble for watering your lawn.
So, Aj, what kind of bird is that?
I finally snuck outside and got a photo of the kingfisher that perches on the electric line outside my home here.

  3. Aj, I just posted it on my facebook page. You could get it from there, if you like. I had to use my telephoto lens, but when I cropped the picture it shows all his details. oh, I do not have a fancy camera, but my point and shoot has a 20x zoom.

  4. Good morning to those on this side of the globe. Good evening to Jo.
We do not have finches so the picture is greatly appreciated.

I am at the office this morning. Early morning discussion is about the program 24 which another person in the office enjoys with her husband. She talks with my husband to try to figure out what will happen. I can’t join in the conversation because I don’t really keep up with the program even if it is on in the room where I am. Does anyone here watch 24? 24 refers to the number of hours in one day (for anyone who has not heard of the program).

Jo, I prayed and fasted yesterday, too. I did not have anything to eat until this morning. I could not follow the exact program, on the hour prayer, but I went through the whole program, but was not where I could sing. Do you have The Valley of Vision book? I got it for my brother for his birthday. It has some really nice prayers that AGL drew from.

Looking forward to seeing a kingfisher, too!

  5. Janice, it was so sweet to pray and know that others were also praying. I don’t have that book, but appreciated the prayers that were included.

  6. I believe it was Donna or Michelle that originally mentioned Valley of Vision on here.

Son had his Latin final exam yesterday. He thinks he did okay on it. For the combo grad school/PhD program he has to have two foreign languages. Latin is good to have because it is good background for other studies. He had German language classes at Covenant and Spanish language Rosetta Stone homeschool program. Not sure what he will choose for his second language requirement in his current program of study. I think he is interested in putting together a small group to read aloud a classic book in Latin.

I just turned Pam down. Pam is a VIP, (Visually Impaired Person) who is also a Lion. She needs people to take her places. Monday before last, I took her to a doctor’s appointment. Things like that.
Pam just called. She wanted me to take her to Walmart this afternoon.
I said, “No”. It’s a stretch on our relationship when I go shopping with Elvera. I can’t get into the business of taking some other woman shopping.
No way I’m going into a store with a woman if I don’t have to.
    It’s a bummer. I hate this.

  8. Chas, could this turn into “killing two birds with one stone,” or satisfying two shopping ladies needs at the same time? Wouldn’t Elvera enjoy helping the VIP lady select things to buy? Most shopping ladies enjoy influencing others with their personal tastes. And Walmart offers options for those who don’t like to shop. I believe they have benches over by the pharmacy and in the shoe department. You can pick out frames for your next pair of glasses. You can get a table in the feeding post and have a bag of popcorn with a slurpie. They have a books and magazine section where you could browse and read. If there is a lawn and garden shop you can stroll through it and pretend you are at a park. Yes, Chas, I can see you in Walmart real soon. If nothing else, you can people watch. Walmart is a place to see and be seen by the salt of the earth

  9. Good (whatever time of day) to all!

An answer for Kevin from last night @ 12:13 am: Peter, how long have you been doing the cave tours? My wife and I spent three days of our August 2006 anniversary vacation in Hannibal, including the cave tour.

I started in 2008, so this is my seventh year. I like it so much I hope to make it part of my retirement income, if they’ll allow it.

  10. Good morning all. My vacation is over and I have returned to reality. The landlord has decided to take the house off the market, put it back on the market in September and not renew our lease. Either way I have lost a house I loved living in. The emails and texts started last night and continued into this morning. The newest buyer wanted to do the home inspection this morning at 10 and wanted the house empty. I tried to get them to do it last week while we were gone, but they wouldn’t/couldn’t. This has burned a couple of bridges for me. I don’t like having burned bridges. Now I am tied in knots because I like for everyone to be happy…even at my expense.

  11. Yawn.

    What time is it, anyway?

I really slept in, and now I have to rush out to get Tess to the vet in 45 minutes.

Valley of Vision has some beautiful prayers.

  12. Back from the vet’s. There was a dog in the waiting room named Moses. 🙂

And in California church news: I was talking to another owner in the waiting room who was telling me about the (mainline) Presbyterian church nearby that allows people to bring their dogs to worship. They pass around plates of dog treats (I’m not sure if this is in lieu of communion or part of what would be — obviously — a very open communion for all).

Now I love dogs, as you all know. But from talking to him (and from my impressions after hearing about this dog-friendly church service a few years ago when it started), it sounds like there’s very little gospel message going on.

He said he only attends because dogs can come (so I can only hope they at least have Scripture readings, I got the impression he wasn’t a church goer at all normally). He also told me people of all and no faiths come every Sunday, that it’s a complete mix of ideas. Could be an opportunity to share the gospel, of course.

But I suspect with mainline preaching it’s all pretty watered down — more dog-centered than God-centered.

  14. “Linky”- I liked the article you posted @ 10:32AM. Humor is good for the soul. And Solomon even says a merry heart does good like a medicine. Isn’t good humor something that makes us merry? (And if humor were bad, I’d be in big trouble, since I come up with witty responses often!)
