Good Morning!
It’s Saturday! At least it is here on the East Coast.
And it’s not just any Saturday.
It’s Meet at Linda’s Saturday! 🙂
That’s the reason for the early postings as well.

Great fireworks last night. Our community had them. From the pier we could see all around us. Annapolis and over to the Easteen Shore. (Which is weird for me to say)
See some of you soon. To the rest you be good. Ya hear?

Husband worked on the 4th because we had no plans. Also a client wanted to see him. The client got sick so, thankfully, did not bring his throwing up illness to the office. 🙂
I did cat duty after husband got home. I helped friends by recycling some cardboard boxes that needed breaking down. Husband and I took a load to the fire station recycling bin. I thought we would be the only ones doing that late in the day on the 4th, but no, another couple arrived in their truck with their cardboard. Husband and I shared the one remaining turkey leg for dinner.

It was only 11:00PM here when AJ posted the threads. I got on the News thread and posted, not realizing it was not this one. So I kept refreshing the screen until this one came up. Granted, I am not normally still up at that time, but I was waiting for D3 to come home after spending the evening with friends to go to fireworks 30 miles away. Even though she is 19, I still think of her as my little girl, since she is the youngest and looks like she is 15 or 16.
Our little town had a great fireworks display last night. It started slowly, with several small red bursts to start. And I thought (and said to Mrs L), “I guess I got spoiled all these years going to the larger cities nearby.” (Our town is 930 population. 15 miles away is a city of 40,000 and 30 miles away a smaller one of 20,000.) I was impressed by the next 25 minutes of almost constant, colorful explosions. At times it seemed overwhelming since one group of 6 rockets would barely be finished when the next group started. It seemed more like an actual battle than a small town fireworks display.

I worked about an hour and a half in the cool morning getting honeysuckle vines off a portion of the azaleas. What a massive tangle. It is very satisfying to see the plies growing bigger of what has been removed. Husband twice saw a hummingbird on the tiger lilies.
Bosley loves A/C. This is her first experience with it. She has reverted back to using me for her couch when she naps now that the house is cooler.

We heard random fireworks until about midnight here. The news said Stone Mountain Park had to close its gates because of the number of people trying to see fireworks there. They will do another fireworks show this evening, the very same show as last evening. The weather has been perfect for the events this year.

Maybe a really Anonymous masked person will show up at your gathering. Are you having fun yet?
I’m just waking up, slept until 8:30 today — the fireworks were loud and continual from around 9-11 p.m. and some loud ones beyond that. The beach fireworks show went from around 9:15-9:45, but then all around that our neighborhoods were exploding. People somehow manage to get the big illegal fireworks and stash them.
Sooo, poor dogs were miserable, especially Cowboy who finally jumped on the bed with me (he never does that unless he’s scared). We’ll have some random booms tonight, I’m sure, but for the most part it’s over.
Annie lost her collar — this one lasted a long time, I think I put it on her last September. But I have “extras” so I got one of those out, stuck my last “extra” annie name tag on it, and put it on her this morning.

JoAnne, when I get that, I just shorten my name to g2. But I suspect lots of others have that too.
I mentioned before that my tongue is sensitive to onions. Like a shot to the ear is a small piece of onion to my tongue. Elvera’s family is used to it: i.e. “This is your potato salad, Charlie” or “This dressing is for you”. etc.
Raw onions are worse, but cooked too. Onions in any form.
Pickles make for a good potato salad.

A couple from church invited us out to dinner this morning. Do you realize how big an endeavour that is? We accepted. I tried to pay but he said, ” We had six children, we have an idea…” I said thanks.
When we got there, there was only one guy working. Our pastor and his wife showed up shortly after we did. My children had started pitching in, serving water, etc. The pastor and wife took over and started going to the other customers to take their orders and delivering water so the one guy could man the stove. I like where we live. The children bussed our tables and then set the tables back in place when we were finished. I don’t think they regret having us. I am sure the remaining customers had a lot to talk about when we left. Did I mention I don’t go out to eat much?

Today was our last sermon from our pastor who heads out now on a rather lengthy sabbatical and study break (he won’t return until late September).
He preached from 1 Cor. 9:23-27 and 2 Cor. 12:7 — about how we are called to holiness; and how Satan is sometimes used by God as part of that refinement.
Satan gains a foothold with us through our own tendency for sinfulness; but sometimes his attacks are a “tool’ that is being used by God (see Job) for our own sanctification. “Satan is a scalpel in the hand of God.”
“God was honored and Job was refined.”

We had a nice church service with several patriotic songs and a call to pray at the altar on our knees for our nation.
Our pastor to seniors was filling in. He recently graduated from a seminary program in counseling. The person who spoke at graduation told that he use to judge church success by membership numbers, giving, etc. Now he judges success by if the members are being taught how to endure persecutiin.

Janice, your post reminds me that lately our pastor has asked us to kneel at our seats during the prayer before the sermon. I like it. But a number of older folks stay in their seats, of course, kneeling is one of those things that can get harder with advanced age (and know church kneeler rails to help!).
Perseverance in the faith — regarding how to judge how well a church is doing. I agree with his changed perspective, Janice. Numbers don’t say too much. Just look at the stadiums filled with thousands of people listening to the “health-and-wealth” heresies. 😦
Small world, the swimmer who was attacked by the shark yesterday in our area was someone I’d interviewed a year ago when he finished a grueling swim from Catalina to the mainland (and landed in the hospital back then after everything went wrong).
He told our reporter today that he’s done with ocean swimming. At least for a while. But he’s out of the hospital and is recovering. I posted a photo of his injuries on FB that ran on our newspaper’s home page. Ouch and OUCH.

Yapamom- I didn’t see your post from July 5 @ 11:15 when I was here earlier. So you were at the Mark Twain Cave? Did you see a guide or ticket person who slightly resembled Mark Twain? That was I.
If you studying speleology, that is good. You live in PA, correct? There are a few caves there you can tour. Also along the Ohio River. And if you’re ever out htis way again, go to the other cave on the property called Cameron Cave. It has no electricity so you get a better idea of what a limestone labyrinth cave looks like.

I bought a Mophie when my Iphone3 battery couldn’t last a full day. I’ve also got a car charger and plug it in all the time. I learned how to close apps, keep the phone on airplane mode and switched off a bunch of items, including location and any push notifications. Aggravating.
I then got an iphone 4 (I buy these phones from young people upgrading for reasonable prices) and have NOT upgraded to the latest IOS on either the phone or the Ipad. The last time I did that nearly ruined my Ipad for battery usage and other problems. When they’ve got the bugs worked out, I may update, but may not. Good luck with the phone battery!
