Well, the folks at the Nest are fairly distributed today. We did a bit of schoolwork and then the older five took off to town, where they are volunteering to help plant trees for Arbor Day. Then they will stay for the town barbecue, followed by forty minutes of welding in school, then track. They will return in time for two to drive to another town where they are helping a couple of older gentlemen with some chores that need younger muscles. They return tomorrow night. The other three will go to the church in the morning for breakfast and then church cleanup for the rest of the morning. They should be feeding and playing with a friend’s dog while she is out of town for a short time in the evening. So, basically, a weekend off for them.
Others of us are planting shade plants in the shade and tomatoes under a shelter. And peppers. Others are finishing math and playing in the grass. One is still gone to the Youth Challenge and one is off making money to supply us with what is needed to keep going at this frantic pace. So, that is what your prayers are addressing at this time. Thanks for praying for us, it really does matter. The changes in these children is phenomonal and we continue to stand back in awe as God brings healing to many broken ones.
Wonderful praise report, Mumsee! I’m continuing in prayer for the Nest.
I have a praise report, as well, and it is LONG. 🙂 That’s a good thing, right? I’ll put it in a separate comment after this one.
Thank you for the prayers for my father-in-law. My hubby visited him today. He is still in the hospital, and as of this morning, they hadn’t yet figured out why his leg is infected. He doesn’t seem to be in much discomfort, though, which is good, and he is as talkative as ever. He and hubby are both annoyed with the nurse who keeps coming around with her clipboard, though, asking questions like, “Can you think of six words that start with the letter P?” and other nonsense. She gets irritated that he doesn’t answer the questions, and complains that he seems to be so distracted, talking about things that have nothing to do with what he’s being asked. Hubby today, and his brother last night, tried to tell staff that he’s been that way his whole life, LOL! He doesn’t answer questions — he talks about what he wants to talk about, and you’d better keep up!
Anyway, continued prayers that they’ll figure out what’s going on would be appreciated. Thanks.
And now the praise report, and a word of encouragement for those here who are struggling with parent/child relationships.
I’m praising God for the work He has done in the life of my second daughter (Third Arrow, who turned 17 last week). She approached me last night when I was about to get ready for bed, wanting to talk.
And talk we did — about a great many things — until midnight! About hopes, and fears, and friends, sibling interactions, parent-child relationships, homeschooling, relationship with the Lord, gleaning new insights from familiar Bible passages each time one comes to them, and more.
She talked about an epiphany she had this week that she needs to reach out to others with her concerns, and not keep things stuffed down inside anymore. She said being 15 and 16 were two very hard years for her, as she internalized so many things and withdrew into herself, but she sees now how God was faithful to bring her through those challenges, and show her a better way — to take it to Him in prayer, and to open up to those the Lord has placed in her life to provide her with guidance and security, especially us, her parents.
I haven’t shared a lot about my children, but this is the daughter with whom I had the most intense behavioral issues in early childhood, and then again in early adolescence.
So to have this young woman come to me now, and thank me for how her dad and I raised her (all the credit goes to God, and not to us), for doing what was for best, even when she didn’t like it, for loving her when she was ungrateful, for being faithful to homeschool her — she was so full of gratitude, and apologies, as she felt she’d taken us for granted, and forgiveness for me in my very obvious failings as a mother.
There were lots of hugs, some tears, and an incredible feeling of God’s grace and mercy in our lives. Our talk was such a blessing to me, beyond what I could have imagined, and especially because it included an exhortation to me, and a promise.
When she thanked me for giving her and her older siblings the childhood we had, which included homeschooling, she noted, she also expressed the sentiment that she hopes her younger siblings will be blessed with a childhood like hers, for which she is now grateful, as I said. That was a great exhortation to me to be faithful and not grow weary in doing the Lord’s will as I raise the rest of the children.
My daughter also said she wants to assist me in schooling the youngest ones. I know she is genuine in saying that, and will follow through, as she has for some time now been stepping up to the plate, helping with the household and youngest two children without being asked.
I am overwhelmed with gratitude at how the Lord has worked in this daughter’s life, and at the blessed privilege it is to be a mother to all my children.
My encouragement for all of you is this: When life gets hard, and it seems your most important relationships are crumbling, remember that God is always there, working behind the scenes. He knows our loved ones’ thoughts, how they’re watching us and taking note of our lives, of our relationship with God, and observing the peace we have through Christ. Keep praying, keep investing, keep loving, keep showing Christ to the people in your life. God is always faithful, and the fruit is so sweet.
Praise God for His bountiful and undeserved blessings!
6 Arrows, nice to hear a good report so far. He sounds like my dad. I told him the nurses were going to be thrilled when he went home. He lost his ability to talk for awhile and had to go through therapy. I had to laugh when the therapists remarked that he certainly was one who liked to talk. It was nice to hear him be able to do it again. 🙂
Mumsee, how wonderful to hear of you raising children with servant’s hearts.
Prayer for God’s work as I emailed one of my children for forgiveness for something that happened many years ago. God brought it to mind during my quiet time so I faithfully followed through. Now praying for the response.
Jo, that’s not me raising them, that is who they are. I did not sign them up to work as volunteers for Bible Club, they did. And they went every week for the full year with no reminders. They are amazing young adults. And they pitch in wherever they go. They take after their dad in that. I am not a teacher and I am not a servant. I know, we are called to that, but God has His work cut out on making me those things.
Third Arrow would appreciate very much if you would pray for her. She is struggling with putting out of her mind thoughts of a disturbing movie she saw Monday afternoon. She did not realize beforehand the nature of the movie, or especially that it would involve young children in the way they were depicted in the plot.
Prayers for the requests and others like Lee, Mike and missionaries. Prayers for salvation for family members and friends who do not know the Lord. Blessings upon all the sweet grandchildren and beloved pets. Thanks be to God for His goodness in provision of Christian friendship here.
