  6. I was fairly certain I knew that was a Donna picture. Janice, Jake is a red and white dog. She is part border collie but we believe another part is Brittany Spaniel.

    I am certain that Jake is, too!

    Noisy morning here. Purrs in my ear and machinery going next door and across the street. The lawn crews are out in full force. I usually wait until the dew dries. But then again, I am just one woman, and I don’t drive those heavy mowers like the crews do. Maybe I need to put Bosley to work on my crew. She can eat grass to rid herself of hairballs while I mow.

  9. Don’t cut grass while it’s wet.
    It doesn’t cut evenly.
    It clogs the mower.
    It is slippery out there.
    It’s too early anyhow, get another cup of coffee.

  14. I am not on Facebook either, so I can’t comment.

    I won’t mow today since the violets and clover just showed their blooms. I will enjoy them for a bit before I mow them down. Other yards will look like well manicured layer cake without the.frosting..Our yard is frosted and decorated with little flowers all over it. To each his/her own!

  15. Now that’s what sheep dogs do best. I wondered whose it was. I didn’t think it was Mumsee’s, unless she has a lot of buildings on her property.
    My grass isn’t even green yet. But I agree that cutting when it’s wet is a mistake.

  16. Interesting “sign of the times” – I was in the grocery store with 3-yo granddaughter on Saturday. A lady in line behind us got a call on her cell phone and her ringtone was the old-time house phone ring. Emmy asked, “What’s that noise?”

    Not a fan of Facebook’s latest “update.” And why is it whenever they update I have to again tell them what I don’t want to see? I think they do it intentionally.

  20. I can’t truly claim to have green grass. 😦
    I have green things growing in the yard. Sorry if I called it grass. That was wishful thinking.

    There are a few sprigs of grass in the mix. Prbably just enough for Bosley to get her greens.

  21. What was so common and familiar to past generations like the phone ringtone are totally unknown by current generations. Let us pray that does not happen with our God. More people need to be active in sharing Him with children.

  22. CUTTING GRASS: I drove by a freshly mowed field Saturday. I had the windows down and could smell the wild onions that had been cut—THAT is what Spring smells like to me.

    FACEBOOK: I HATE the new change. I don’t care what is trending. I really don’t want to know who is goofing on on Candy Crush, but do thank God that Farmville seems to be a thing of the past. I really don’t need to know every comment you have made anywhere else on FB.

  24. I try to ignore the FB changes which, like a lot of things in life (taxes for example) are simply inevitable. I never like the ‘new look,’ but figure we all adjust within a week or so. 🙂

    Janice, your “grass” sounds like my “grass.” A few sprigs of the real thing, yes, but also lots of other funny green stuff growing out there — along with little purple & yellow clover flowers this time of year. The gardener is set to come again this week so it’ll all get mowed down. I wish I knew what to do with the front yard. I’m checking out other ideas for using drought-resistant plants, some yards in our neighborhood have done a nice job with that.

    Tess liked her sheep and had them going pretty fast for several minutes in a counter-clockwise circle (I was standing in the middle and became seriously dizzy just turning-turning-turning to keep watch on her). Someone else got some good shots of her in blurred motion after she really got going. This photo was taking by a friend outside the ring using my iPhone. Location is a local horse stable facility & private club where they do a lot of trail rides, roping & penning competitions and other cowboy stuff. 🙂

  26. Great photo.

    I’ve tried multiple times to upload a new photo taken by my new camera, of deer that came right up to the fence last night. Misten was absolutely coming unglued. She lay down on command, but she stared intently and whined, and her teeth were rattling so loudly in her excitement that Greg and I were both surprised.

    I figured she was thinking, “Those are the biggest rabbits I have ever seen, and they really need herding badly! Let me go get them!”

That phrase (attributed to different people) that has been so popular in recent years — “Preach the gospel always; when necessary use words” — came up in our sermon yesterday, along with the point that many Christians are being silenced out of embarrassment when it comes to some issues that are so rapidly overtaking our culture (and chipping away at and affecting our views as well, in many cases).

    I was rambling through the basement this afternoon, looking for something I thought I had lost.
    I ran across some clothes pins.
    Do any of you know what clothes pins are?
    What to do with a bag of clothes pins? Throwing them out is not an option.
    I found the item btw. It was hidden in the stuff.

  32. Hi all. I’m behind on here, and will probably get further behind, as it will be a busy week. Saturday night is the piano show I’ve been preparing for, and on Thursday and Friday I’m going to practice on the piano I’ll be playing on at the show. I’m going to have 3rd Arrow come along with me to one of my practices and videotape a complete run-through of my piece. A friend of mine who lives in a different part of the country wants to see me play it, but as she can’t get here in person, she told me that if I’d record it, she’d walk me through how to upload it to YouTube so that she can see it. 😉

    A little catching up from last week: AJ, it was nice to see a Brandenburg Concerto featured for J.S. Bach’s birthday Friday. I think those concerti are my favorite of all Bach’s works, and he has many good ones.

    Janice, thank you for your prayers for 2nd Arrow, and your condolences on the death of her cat (2nd Cat). It all went so fast, she’s still pretty much in shock. The cat didn’t really start acting sick until last Monday. Daughter took her to the vet Tuesday, and her white count was very high, so they recommended an ultrasound, which was Wednesday morning. They found cancer all throughout the liver, and spreading to her spleen, and gave her about one week to live. She died that night.

    Second Arrow said the hardest part was seeing the reaction of her other cat (3rd Cat) she has with her. When she put 2nd Cat into a box for burial, 3rd Cat crawled into the box, laid on top of her, and wouldn’t come out. 😦 He had been very lonely after 1st Cat died last December, so daughter had brought 2nd Cat from our house to live with her so that 3rd Cat would have a companion. Now she’s gone, and we’re down to 3rd Cat with daughter and 4th Cat still with us.

    Daughter was here Thursday through Saturday, and having some quiet time reconnecting with us and a local friend, and not having school or work responsibilities for a time (it was spring break last week, and she took a few days off work after the cat died) helped ease some of the stress she’d been feeling. She’s back to school this week, has finals next week, then will complete her move and start her internship after that. She’ll be okay, but continued prayers for her are appreciated.

    Hope all is well with all of you. I’ll catch up here someday.

    Say “Hath God really said?” If that’s what you want to do. But don’t claim you’re advancing the gospel or church unity by doing so.

  40. Clothes pins?

    I still use them. If I run out of other ways to close bags of food I will use a clothes pin. Also, I actually hang skirts in my closet on wire hangers with clothes pins sometimes. And, I use them in the classroom at Sunday School. I have 66 clotes pins with the books of the Bible that can be attached in order to a pizza pan or a splatter guard (any large round item will work that allows them to fit). Last but most important, in the past day or two, Bosley discovered a loose clothes pin makes a gret kitty toy. 🙂

    Regarding cell phone ring tones (Linda @ 10:08), my hubby’s ring tone is that same old-time house phone ring. I don’t hear it ring very often, and forget that’s the one he has. Yesterday when we were on the way to his parents’ house, his phone was tucked away in the van in a closed compartment, so when it started ringing, it was a little muffled. We were listening to an oldies radio station, and for about the first two or three rings, I thought it was the background of the song on the radio. When hubby said, “That’s the phone”, then I remembered. 😉

I have a group a very close friends…there are four of us…we have been meeting every week..or two for the past 20 years….we all have the same old time phone ring on our cell phones….when we are together and a phone rings…well…we all are searching for our phones to see who is getting the call 🙂

    I recently changed my ring tone to one that seemed to me to be most similar to what the factory offered. I have to make change in tiny increments. Some of those ring tones are quite unusual.

  55. Yes, video! 🙂

    My ring tone is the same for everyone — it’s called “Timba” and I picked it because it seemed less loudly intrusive than the others, especially when it goes off at work or in a meeting (though I usually turn my phone sounds off and rely on visual/vibration to tell if someone’s trying to reach me).

  56. A former colleague had his phone ring set on a dog bark which was interesting … and speaking of iPhones, another colleague today dropped hers in a toilet (!!) at work this morning. It’s now stuck in a bag of rice on her desk in hopes it will dry the phone out. (The water in the bowl was clean, thankfully!)

  57. Donna, I went to my tenth-year college reunion, and after we ate together and talked and all of that, we drew into a circle to close in prayer. We were on the eighth or tenth floor of the building, and during the prayer a cat started meowing. I was mystified how a cat got up that high . . . until I realized the meowing was coming from someone’s purse, and it was a cell phone.

  61. Clothes pins go on the clothes on the clothes line of course. That is how one gets that fresh springtime smell in the clothes, it does not really come from a bottle.
