Good Morning!

Spring has officially sprung!! 🙂

Today’s header photo is from Peter.

In this one, I’m not sure what type of activity is going on, but I’m pretty sure Bosley is the lookout. 🙂

Has Spring sprung where you are yet?

  1. Good morning, all. Evening, Jo.

Spring has definitely sprung here in Spring, Texas (a suburb northwest of Houston). It’s about 58 degrees here this morning with a high of 75 this afternoon. I absolutely love this time of year!

There are eleven weeks of school left and then I will have a high schooler! I cannot believe this is possible! Where did the time go?!? She has blossomed into a beautiful, responsible teenager of whom I couldn’t be more proud. God has blessed me beyond measure by giving me the privilege of being her mom.

And I do have a goose photo to go with the ducks. Maybe tomorrow. 🙂

    See it looks funny.

    A good show.
The Riders in the Sky is another odd group. Each is a college graduate and a couple of PhD’s in the group. Jerry Gray used to play them a lot on WAMU in Washington. Their humor was sort of intellectually odd, but fun.

It doesn’t make a noise, so you have to watch carefully.

  7. I had a strange, scary dream this morning. I had to get to someone in the hospital but no one would speak to me. I was driving through our local Wallace I-10 Tunnel but I was so tired I couldn’t open my eyes. I took my thumb and forefinger and pried my eyelid open but I still couldn’t see–remember I was driving about 75 or 80 in heavy traffic. A kitten meowing woke me up from the dream or was part of the dream. I went outside but couldn’t find a kitten.

The company has hired a VP of Career Development. She and I will be working closely together as I am Director of Business Development. She is a terrific woman. I was doing coaching with her before this company recruited me. Although I want to work with her and learn from her, I have to admit I am feeling a little insecure. Having my feet pulled out from under me in the past has made me more insecure than I have ever been in my life. What if’s are playing in my head, like what if now that they have hired her and see how wonderful she is will they regret hiring me…will I sink?

There was a line in the Rider’s song that I remember when I was a kid. They didn’t sing it.

    “Gimme a date
    And a Ford V8
and a rumble seat for two,
And let me wahoo, wahoo, wahoo.”

I reckon they figured no one would know what a rumble seat is.
Nor what is specific about a Ford V8.

  10. The picture is from the Illinois side of the Mississippi River, about 12 miles from where I live. It was the last full moon of winter the other day. I noticed it while driving to work, so I stopped and took a picture near home. Then, since I wasn’t meeting my carpool that day, I stopped at a boat ramp and took the river picture. Sorry for the quality, but all I had along was an “old fashioned”, low definition, non-smart-phone camera.

Ah, Spring! 32° this morning. A few weeks ago, that sounded warm. Today’s high is to be near 60°. And the grass is just now getting a tint of green.

I don’t know what makes them think I would patronize someone who intrudes like that. It only makes me mad. If I spent enough time to notice who was doing it, they would be added to my “don’t patronize” list.

So, I’m taking this into the computer guru. I’ll have my laptop but I don’t enter much with it because it’s mostly hunt and peck. I don’t like it’s keyboard because it’s hard to find the home keys.

Also, do you have any particular recommendations for easily understood Bible translations for the Hispanic community?

Brothers and Sisters in Christ = Hermanos (y hermanas) en Cristo. (“Sisters” would be understood in the masculine, plural “hermanos”, but sometimes “hermanas” is included for clarity.)
Jesus loves you = Jesucristo te ama.

“The best” Bible is the Reina Valera. It is like the NKJV or the Revised Standard and uses some older verb forms, as well as the dialect from Spain. There is also the NASB version called “La Biblia de las Americas” or something along that line which uses Latin American Spanish.

  19. Chas,

And anyone else with this problem……

Normally I charge an outrageous fee for my technical expertise, but since I like you, I’ll grant a freebie. 🙂

I had the same problem a couple weeks back. You do not have a virus. It’s an aggressive add-on. Sometime in the recent past you downloaded an update that it came along with. I believe it came with the latest Adobe update, but I’m still not positive. I did a virus scan and everything else I could think of. It wouldn’t go away. But I searched and found a solution.

    Here’s what you do.

In the top left of your IE toolbar click the TOOLS button. About half way down in the drop down is MANAGE ADD-ONs. Click that. In the list that pops up is a nasty little bug called SAVINGSBULL. This is the culprit. Click and then at the bottom right, hit DISABLE. This will fix your problem.

You may also need to do this in other browsers, Chrome, Firefox, whatever, if you use them.

Try it, and it should fix your problem.

Ooh, I love bridges and kittens. 🙂 And, now that you mention it, my front blinds are all wacky/twisted and catty-wampus at the bottom, but that’s as much having to do with the dogs when the get to the front of the house as the mail is being delivered (normally I baby-gate them so they can’t get there, but sometimes they manage to slip through). Tacky looking, I’ll have to replace the one panel soon.

I took one panel down at the side of the house when Annie the cat ruined them.

I dreamed last night that I was walking in the rain. As for spring, it sprung in January out here so it’s pretty old news. It’s been one of the mildest/warmest/driest winters in my recent memory.

Today’s a writing day for me after spending much of yesterday out on interviews (going from young hipster small film director to a Kentucky-born cowboy/horse-whisperer and his horses — one was an American Paint horse, which was gorgeous). I live in a diverse area, that’s for sure.

On yesterday’s thread, you asked about a good church to attend next Sunday.
I would Recommend FBC Hendersonville. If you’re staying close to Furman, you are on US Hwy 25.. Near Traveler’s Rest. You could drive up 25 to Hendersonville in little less than an hour.
Our service starts at 8:30 (We attend the “old folks” service vice the two “standing and clapping” services.)
Lunch after church & SS, and we can visit.
If this interests you, let me know and I will send you contact information.

  23. I had a tout app video freeze on my iPhone yesterday & have been trying to deal with that. Nothing suggested by the app person the newspaper put me in touch with seems to be working. I was told to shut down all my running apps (which I did) but it’s still just stuck on the screen. 😦 I hate to lose the video which was to go with a story, but at this point I just want it off my screen as I can’t use that app at all until I can somehow get rid of it. I have several earlier videos in the queue that I can’t upload until it’s gone.

Maybe if I turn the phone off and back on again?

This is the camera, as used for bird photography (the main reason I wanted it). The woman writing this blog is one of a husband and wife team producing one of the best-known bird guides, and I figured if she raved about the camera, it had to be good. And she has some amazing photos showing what it will do. http://stokesbirdingblog.blogspot.com/2013/02/canon-sx-50-hs-for-bird-photography-i.html

  27. Too funny Cheryl,

My new camera is also a Canon SX, but the 170, not the 50. Mine doesn’t have a pop out screen.

Trust me, you’ll love it. But there are a lot of settings and choices to learn. I’ve been reading up now on the best setting options for photographing flowers and plants. Animals are a lot harder though, because like kids, they don’t hold still. 🙂

  28. I’ve been playing with my new camera, and so far I haven’t gotten any decent bird photos since I haven’t had cooperative birds, but I got a close-up of my husband, which proves this camera can do good indoor shots (my old one really couldn’t, a huge weakness since I’ve always been the one taking family shots at family gatherings, the cute baby photos and all of that), a photo of the barn way back behind us on which I can read the writing (neither of us even knew the barn had writing on it), and a couple photos of Misten (who is less than thrilled that I have a new camera). In the height of winter we had birds on our feeders almost constantly and right now they’re tired of sunflower seeds and suet, now that they have better options. So the obvious chances to get bird photos are more limited, but I know I’ll have other chances. What I really want to see is a hawk perching in the tree at the middle of the field behind us–I’ve often seen hawks there but been unable to photograph them. I’d also be happy with the herd of deer coming out to graze, as they have been doing the last several days; I’ve gotten mediocre shots of them, but nothing great. I also have filters, which should help me with the sky on overcast days and help me get photos of flowers (I’ve never had a camera that could do all that well with macro, or close-up, photography, and I should now be able to do that. I’ve long regretted the inability to get photos of little tiny flowers.)

  29. Thought I saw cameras advertised a while back (maybe 3 or 4 years ago?) that were considered good for kids (oops, children) and pets, but if a camera is good for birds it certainly would have that capability — along with all the other tech advances that have been made with digital cameras.

Thank God for dirty laundry. I turned on the washing machine and Bosley stayed upstairs because she does not like the noise. I was able to work at the laptop to the hum of the washer instead of to the keystrokes of a pouncing cat. Interesting article that Bosley puts together but not quite right for the newsletter!

She had started it with power tools before the power tool ban so had to finish with inadequate hand tools. She did great. And painted it so they would not be as likely to get splinters. I love my children.

The seven year old was outside carrying the cat. I glanced out of the schoolroom to see him headed to a full water trough, fringed with ice and called to him as he was about to throw the cat in. Boys will be boys says husband. I love my children.

  34. Our pastor form Hawaii just posted this:

Fred Phelps died – the “pastor” behind Westboro Baptist Church and all the hate and protests at just about everywhere because he believed God couldn’t love anyone except him and his family (which makes up most of his church.) Last night he stood before God – and it’s not up to you or me whether he gets into heaven – it’s God’s decision. The amazing thing is – if he gets in, it will only be by the very grace that he protested against so vehemently.

The hardest part in moments like this is praying that God had mercy on him (the very thing he would not accept in the lives of others) – because it proves I have a God who is big enough and loving enough to forgive the hate and anger and self-righteousness that humanity is so full of. What God chooses to do with Fred I will not know – He doesn’t send me e-mails about who gets in and who doesn’t – so I will have to continue to hold fast to His promise in Romans, “This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”

  37. I was thinking of that when the discussion was going on in regard to the “scandals” and things like submission. We sure do tend to be judgmental and it appears any Christianity that does not line up directly with our beliefs is suspect. We might be very inclusive until a fellow believer says submission, or helpmeet, or father’s authority, or homeschool, or public school, or pants or skirts or Phelps church or snake handling. We all seem to draw a line somewhere. It is good to see God is in control and not us. It is good that He sees the heart. It is good that He has the plan. I am glad He decides and not us or I would be so not there.

  42. Chas, Thanks for the invitation. I’d love to do that, but since Sunday is the only time we have to explore Greenville, I doubt that my daughter would want to dedicate that much of the day in another city. Sunday evening we have a reception to attend, and in the morning I would like to attend church, but I’m thinking that I should leave most of the day free for her to explore. If she’s going to make a decision about whether to attend, she’ll want to see what she can of the immediate vicinity. But, as I said, if she ends up attending Furman, I’ll get a chance to do a lot more there, and in that case, I’d certainly want to come up and visit and attend your church.
