Good Morning!

Today’s header photo is from Linda.

On this day in 1803 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled itself to be the final interpreter of all constitutional issues.

In 1857 the first shipment of perforated postage stamps was received by the U.S. Government.

In 1863 Arizona was organized as a territory.

In 1868 the first parade to use floats occurred in New Orleans at Mardi Gras.

In 1938 the first nylon bristle toothbrush was made. It was the first time that nylon yarn had been used commercially.

And in 1945, during World War II, the Philippine capital of Manilla, was liberated by U.S. soldiers.

  1. Good morning! L. did well at the horse show yesterday — she got two seconds, a third and a fourth. More beautiful weather here today: it’s 61 now with a predicted high of 72.

It’s my sister’s 49th birthday today! They are coming home in late July and will be staying through Christmas. I’m so excited!

  2. Good Morning Everyone. What a pretty view Linda has.
It is another busy day here today. I have to get a fish fry together for about 125 people March 22nd. I am getting quotes from three caterers on what to do. It should be nice. Yesterday at church I was asked to help with the Seder meal on Thursday night before Easter. I said yes because I have never managed to make it to one that was being offered and this will definately mean I have to go this year.
I have realized that Easter was going to be late this year,,,Mardi Gras is March 4, Ash Wedsnesday the 5 and Easter approximately 40 days behind that…I guess I just didn’t realize that it was going to be APRIL 20th! No wonder we have had so much cold weather! That’s the old country wisdom and wive’s tales I grew up with.
    Have a good day

  3. Yes, that photo (sunrise?) at Linda’s is beautiful. I guessed to picture to be from Nancyjill.

Bosley showed her new trick to my husband yhis morning of how she can get to the upper part of the bathroom window and from there walk across the shower curtain rod to access the hole in the ceiling. She did this while he was drying his hair. Needless to say she got the attention she was demanding. My husband then asked me,, “Do we still have that duct tape?” He’s such a man! Wondering if he will use it on the ceiling or the cat’s feet

  4. Beautiful view. I thought it was a sunset until you said something.
Have you noticed that every week has to start with a Monday?
I’m taking two ladies to the VIP (Visually Impaired Persons) seminar this afternoon.
That’s OK. It just takes a couple of hours.

I couldn’t get a party together for 125 people if they gave me to NEXT March 22.
Years ago, my boss tried to put me in charge of social activities for our branch. I told him that my idea of a good time was a second cup of coffee at the Longhorn Steakhouse.
He selected someone else. That was a wise executive decision.

  5. You all live in such beautiful places! It’s a pleasure to see them.

Busy day for me. While life has moderated a little since 2013 (because I’m insisting on NOT working all the time. Surely I can sit and just read for pleasure, right?), it still reminds me of that Calvin and Hobbes book title, “The Days Are Just Packed!”

All good, but full of activity. I lay on my pillow at night and that morning seems a really long time away!

And then I have trouble falling asleep. Can you forget how to fall asleep?

    Laughing. Have a lovely day.

  6. Good Morning…I guessed Linda….what a beautiful view…it would be glorious to sit on that deck with morning coffee in hand…. sans the snow! We had a glorious sunrise this morning…sleep eludes me…I’ve been awake since 3 😦

  7. Nancyjill: ugh! 3:00 is a terrible hour! Becca came down at 6:00 and said she’d been awake since 4:00. I think we will have nap time after school today…

  8. I just got an e-mail warning not to open any “Postcard attachment” e’maile, no matter who they fre from. It supposedly contains a bad virus.
I don’t know if this is true, but in any case it seems wise not to open attachments with”Postcard” on them.

  9. Late Rave: Hubby finally heard from the insurance company about the accident that totaled his truck. Not much, about half of a down payment on a replacement. But we may soon get back to two vehicles. Which brings me to a QoD, Do you ever feel guilty about praying for God to help you out of something that is your own fault. For example, our car situation. We knew this was coming eventually and should have been putting away money for the next vehicle. Now were in a pickle and asking God to help us out.

  10. kBells, yes, at least for a bit.
It is hard to grasp how God can continually love us when we misuse the resources He gives us. I buy food, but don’t find time to cook it. So I feel guilty when I toss it out. I keep thinking I will learn not to do thst, but it continues to happen. Right now I need to clear out the fridge of what I did not feel like cooking while I was sick. Not a good feeling. 😦

  12. Linda, you are talking tyranny.
Remember when Chief Justice flubbed up the oath of office? Divine justice was an omen for our future with the king who would not be president.

  13. kbells, yep. 🙄

At the memorial service I attended on Saturday for a former editor, the woman’s daughter spoke and said how much of a pain in the butt (the daughter) could be. She said later she’d ask her mom, “Aren’t you mad at me?” and her mom would always say “well, no, I love you.” Remind you of Someone?

That’s not to say there aren’t lessons to be learned — and it’s not to say that He allows us to deal with the consequences. But He still loves His children and wants us to come to him with our repentance and requests.

Congratulations on the horse show awards.

And yes, Easter is really late this year — but I noticed all the Easter candy was already rolled out at the grocery store yesterday.

I slept very well last night after my long afternoon of fence mending. Still not sure I managed to get all the right spots secured. But we’ll find out soon enough, I suppose.

    Meanwhile, my back sure hurts!

  14. New thought I learned today in the Heaven workbook is concerning what Alcorn refers to the “Past Heaven,” “Present Heaven,” and “Future Heaven.” Basically, the Present Heaven is the time when the spiritual part of us goes to be with Jesus at death, but the body is still in waiting to be joined in resurrection in the New Heaven and Earth or Future Heaven. So far I have not read about the Past Heaven but assume it is where all the ones who died in the past as believers have gone. “The spirit’s departure from the body ends our earthly existence. The physical part of us “sleeps” until the resurrection, while the spiritual part of us relocates to a conscious existence in Heaven (Dan. 12:2-3; 2 Cor. 5:8).

  16. Thank you, Pastor Roy. We never get enough reminders of God’s love for us.

The quote I recorded from the Heaven workbook indicated the references from the Bible which Alcorn used to support his thoughts on Heaven. The quote was from him and not from those Bible verses..

  17. Yes, Kim sounds like the ultimate party planner. She is in the right line of work! I did enjoy planning my son’s birthday parties when he was young, but always felt overwhelmed at the time of the event. We did some nice parties, but as he got older he was at Boy Scout camp every summer for the week of his birthday. They would do something to celebrate there so I did not have to do so much in his teenage years.

  18. Had a few minutes today so stopped by to at least read some. I went back to read the Gothard article. Phos and I had some discussions about ATI and her experiences, but I didn’t know about the scandal. I was in a Christian school in the the late 70’s, but fortunately we didn’t get involved with Gothard. My parents went to a Gothard seminar just to find out what it was all about. My mom was extraordinarily perceptive and my dad could spot doctrinal error in a heartbeat. I remember them coming home from that seminar saying that there was something really wrong there. They didn’t know enough to put their finger on the problem, but they recognized it as dangerous after just a couple hours in a meeting that was supposed to be promoting it. I am very grateful for parents who had spiritual discernment!

  19. Hi, Aji suun! Hope you have a quiet evening. Say hello to the team for me.
I didn’t know about the scandal until this January either. If my parents had known, I doubt they would have joined the program. I have been wishing I could walk across the compound to your porch and talk to you about it.

  20. And Phos sent me a card with a nice picture. I presume it is her.

I’m glad I lived in the epoch when America was a great nation.
    But elections have consequuences.

I just learned why “Pick Up” trucks have that name. Originally, they were made by Ford. Ford sent them to the dealer in packages and you had to go to the dealer to pick them up.
I thought it was so you could pick up stuff and put it in the back.
    Shows what I know.

And Donna, @ 11:36. I’m glad you smiled. It wasn’t funny to me at the time.

  21. reading Leviticus 26 this morning about the blessings of obedience and penalties of disobedience caused me to pray for our nation and especially California. As I pondered the drought and then read the specifics of rain for the crops as a blessing from God. Oh, may He be merciful…

  22. Mumsee sent some nice pictures too.
I heard that the drought in California is mostly man caused it that they diverted the available water to protect species. I don’t know if it’s true. Doesn’t make much sense.

Jo. Judges is a difficult book for me to read.

  23. I don’t remember it, either, Peter, but, from what else has been written, I guess it was around the time of Kim’s wedding. That’s not to say that I didn’t know about it at the time, but my memory is getting pretty bad. So, I could have known at the time, & completely forgotten. 😦

If I did know, but didn’t participate, it could have been because my husband doesn’t “know” you all like I do, & would be somewhat skeptical.

  24. Whew, I just got beat up on FB on a (Christian) friend’s gay marriage post I decided to gently chime in on. (My Christian friend — someone I’d known growing up but don’t see now — favors gay marriage and is pretty outspoken about it).

Anyway, it was a thread that I thought could use a little balance. I was wrong. 🙂 This woman whom I don’t know just flipped & went after me, post after post after post — DEFEND yourself! Sheesh.

That’s always the trouble with interacting with people you don’t know on FB. Hopefully she’s had a cup of tea by now and has taken a deep breath or two. Hate to see someone so agitated!

I (wisely, I think) declined to participate after she went postal on me. 😉
