Peter’s Pack of Pickled Pigskin Picks-Week 10

Once again, it’s time for the weekly venture into voluntarily vociferating about a violent sport, expressing visionary predictions on the victorious teams in ten games.

Don’t forget the score in the tie breaker. I hope nobody minds that there are five SEC contests this week. But I tried to spread the other five among the other major conferences, even including another B1G 10 pillow fight,
in which Illinois tries to get its first conference win against Indiana, which has only one of its own. If I had been on the ball I could have done this yesterday and included the two major games tonight with top 10 teams, (#10
Oklahoma at #6 Baylor and #3 Oregon at #5 Stanford). But there is the SEC showdown of #13 LSU taking on #1 Alabama.

So have at it, sports fans.

    Florida State over Wake Forest. I hope Ilose this.
    Missouri over the Wildcats. Again, against my hopes.
    Auburn over Tennessee
    West Virginia Mountaineers over the Longhorns. Sawgunner would hate that.
    Iowa should beat Purdue. I hate to see that.
    Mississippi State to upset A&M.
    ‘Bama beats LSU
    Florida should beat Vandy. Gamecocks meet Gators next week.
    Indiana over Illiani
    UCLA 35, Arizona 14

    I just noticed that Aj and I are voting the same, So, I’m changing my Mississippi State vote for the upset of the season.

  3. You don’t have to change a game, Chas. There is the tie breaker difference.

    My picks:

    Florida State – No upset here.
    Mizzou-RAH – Tigers are bound for the SEC championship game.
    Auburn – Volunteers don’t seem to do well against Tigers of any color.
    West Virginia – Just because I cannot bring myself to want a Texas win.
    Iowa – Only because Purdue is having a worse year than Iowa.
    Texas A&M – No upset here either. (Though it is hard to want a Texas team to win.)
    LSU – These are the only Tigers capable of this upset.
    Florida – Is the bite back in the Gator?
    Indiana – Chief Illiniwek is not happy this year.
    Arizona 24 – 21 Though the Bruins are ranked, both teams have the same records and have played about the same against common opponents. So I hope Arizona can pull off an upset at home.

  7. Mumsee- I didn’t see a game for Boise State on the schedule this week. But I’ll put them on next week when they play the Cowboys (Wyoming). Interesting- Cowboys vs. Broncos. Is it a rodeo or a football game?

    And it looks like Oregon has met its match. 3rd quarter: Stanford ahead 20-0.

  11. I see that everyone but me thinks A&M will beat the Miss. St. Bulldogs. Mississippi State has a surprisingly good team.
    We need for A&M and Mizzou to get beat.
    That loss to Tennessee looks worse all the time. And it didn’t need to happen.

  15. Hawaii is at Annapolis this weekend. The midshipmen are favored this game, however, Navy lost a full back with a knee injury with their last game with Notre Dame. The midshipmen lost by 2 points which says a lot about Navy considering Notre Dame was heavily favored in that game. Head Coach of Navy, Ken Niumatalolo is from Hawaii. It should be a good game since Ken is squaring off against his old school, the University of Hawaii.

    Navy will take the Warriors by 7.

    What could be better
    than guessing by the letter?
    Who will win the college game
    and go on to fame,
    at least for a few years?
    They will hear cheers,,
    at least until age
    brings them to a new stage.
    Remade as a sportscaster,
    a career long laster,
    A fading glory,
    telling the story
    of the new to fame.
    The pigskin is passed
    through the thick air of glory.
    One man telling another’s story.

  21. Chas, An old friend of mine is the Offensive Co-Ordinator at Mississippi State, but I don’t like their chances against Johnny Football in College Station. You’ll get your wish in a few weeks when the Aggies play Missouri.

  26. So the two who picked Vandy are ahead at this point. 5 games done and they both have all 5 correct. But kbells and Ricky Weaver won’t tie with a perfect score since they chose opposite teams in the Texas @ West Virginia game.

  27. Not good. My fate may depend on the Longhorns. Tychicus, Have you seen Steven Adams? All is well on the basketball front north of the Red River, but the morale of the poor Sooners is lower than that of Republicans.

  30. RW: I hadn’t heard of Steven Adams, but just found out that he received a return elbow from Vince Carter. The Thunder are going the Spurs’ route in trying to find an overseas gem, eh? I’ll have to try to see the Spurs with my son when they play at OKC, as long as we can find some reasonably priced tickets.

  32. Tychicus, My son is a Spurs fan and we did that a couple of years ago. There are some reasonably priced tickets. Adams is a beast. His sister Valerie is the two-time Olympic champion in the shot put. We miss the beard, but the Harden trade doesn’t look quite so one-sided now.
