What’s interesting in the news today?
Open thread, as always.
Here’s a few from me.
From NBCNews “The FBI is investigating whether as many as five Americans were among the small team of terrorists who took over a Kenyan mall and launched a bloodbath that has left at least 68 dead and 175 injured over two days of carnage.
The investigation is in its early stages and until a conclusion of the siege in Kenya — which spilled into a second bloody day on Sunday — authorities may not know for sure whether any U.S. residents were involved.
The FBI is investigating terrorist group al-Shabab’s claim that five Americans helped them attack a Kenyan mall. NBC’s Pete Williams reports.
The notion that Americans were involved came directly from the terrorists themselves — or at least a Twitter feed purporting to represent the Somali al-Qaeda affiliate al-Shabab, which has claimed responsibility for the mall attack.”

More here from CNN “There are believed to be between 10-15 gunmen involved in the attack, officials said.
Sources within Al-Shabaab told CNN that nine names listed on a Twitter site — now suspended — were people who were among the alleged hostage-takers.
Three of the alleged attackers are from the United States, two are from Somalia and there is one each from Canada, Finland, Kenya and the United Kingdom, according to the list.”

The President spoke at a memorial for the victims of the DC Navy Yard shooting. In my opinion he once again played politics with a tragedy.
From USAToday “President Obama called Sunday for a “transformation” of the nation’s gun laws, saying last week’s deadly shooting at the Washington Navy Yard echoes too many other killings across the United States.
“Our tears are not enough,” Obama said during a memorial service for the victims and their families. “Our words and our prayers are not enough. … We are going to have to change.”
Gun violence in America “ought to obsess us,” Obama said.”
“Obama, who has proposed changes to the nation’s gun and mental illness laws, noted that shootings in other countries such as Australia and the United Kingdom led to changes in their gun laws. “What’s different in America,” he said, “is it’s easy to get your hands on a gun — and a lot of us know this.”
Transformation? Oh goody. Look how well his other attempts to “transform” things have gone. Should be tons of fun. 🙄

We need trained armed guards in our malls today.
I mentioned Friday that this is the scenario that opened Clancy’s Teeth of the Tiger.
It would be easy to pull off.

I was and wasn’t surprised by the political tone of the memorial talk the president gave. 😦 😦 😦 Sigh.
Reports of Americans & those from other countries including Canada, Finland and the UK being among those involved in the mall attack is troublesome.

From what I am hearing from my daughter in Minnesota, the 5 Americans were from the Somali Community in Minneapolis. My daughter says that the Liberal side of the Lutheran Churches in Minnesota sponsored these Muslim immigrants from Somalia coming into America. Looks like we have once again reaped what we have sown. 🙄

Joe is correct. And it’s not the first time. Mich/Minn has become a favorite landing spot for these types. These folks are also pushing hard for self-regulating Sharia law in their communities too. Sure, what could go wrong?
Uh, maybe something like this.
http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/kenya-attack-raises-terror-concerns-us/story?id=20336438
“The same group that claimed responsibility for an attack on a Kenyan mall this weekend that has claimed at least 62 lives has previously recruited dozens of Americans to join their cause.
U.S. officials estimate that as many as 50 Americans have traveled to training camps in Somalia, the home of the al Qaeda-linked terror group al-Shabaab, over the last six years.
Just last month, al-Shabaab released a video showing three young men claiming to be from Minneapolis who the terror group said later died as martyrs.
“This is the best place to be honestly,” one of the men says. “I can only tell you from my experience being here, that you have the best of dreams, you eat the best of food, and you’re with the best of the brothers and sisters who came here for the sake of Allah. If you guys only knew how much fun we have over here. This is the real Disneyland, you need to come here and join us and take pleasure in this fun.”

Donna,
Rand/Ted 2016.
Let’s just do it. Never mind the torpedoes. After this mess, a complete 180 seems appropriate. 🙂

The problem with Rand and Ted is, despite their respectable separation from RINOs on a number of issues, they’re still basically big military guys, and military guys need wars.

SolarPancake, The Democrats are taking care of the military. In ten years it will be largely female and/or homosexual. At that point it will not be a threat to anyone nor will it be able to defend us.
