A Saturday. I could have slept late. Lulabelle wasn’t having it. She kept making noise in her kennel. We have been up since 5:15. The Master of the House? Sleeping soundly.
🙂 College football begins this weekend. 😦 They’ve started having Thursday night games. Why can’t they all lay on Saturday? I guess there is too much money in the broadcasting rights, and only so many channels, so some have to play on Thursday. Remember when Friday was high school, Saturday college and Sunday professional? Then ABC started Monday Night Football back in 1970 or something. I love football, but keep it on the weekends!

🙂 Heatwave ending! 😦 But not until tomorrow. I guess I better go do the overdue yard work before it gets too hot. I could wait until Monday, but need to get it spiffy for the potential buyers.
🙂 Finally some much needed rain. After more than 1 month of no measurable precipitation, we received 1 1/2 ” last night. Our Boreal Forest is just soaking it up.
😦 High humidity, cold house – not comfy
🙂 Such good progress on the siding of our house. It’s starting to look so nice.
🙂 Tomorrow we head into the 30th year of our marriage.
😦 Tomorrow hubby heads to Prince Edward Island for training.
😦 Too hot. I had to quit the yard work because I was beginning to fell faint every time I stood up from picking up twig debris left over after trimming all the flowering plants in the yard. I guess the stepping stones I moved so I could trim back the grass around them will have to wait until the sun goes down.
🙂 New oven and cooktop being delivered today
🙂 Hubby removed the old ones successfully…no shouting nor throwing of objects in frustration!
😦 Hubby will want me to test out the oven once in place….it’s too hot to turn on the oven
🙂 Now Donna has me wanting to watch my all time favorite movie….Babe and Fly will be sitting next to me as I watch!
🙂 Today starts the Big Apple Festival. All of the service clubs are having fund raisers this week.
So? 😦 Chas had to get up at 6:00 on a Saturday to go over to serve the people. However, we had a lot of volunteers that we never had before, so I spent a lot of time standing around with my hands in my pocket. I never did that before. But it’s a good thing. The serving line is too much for me and they need young people. I did get involved in several other jobs though. And worked ‘till 11:30.
Lunch at McDonalds and then over to the parking lot where we allowed people to park in the business parking space of a fellow Lion. 🙂
😦 It was hot out there.
Until there came up a thunderstorm and started blowing away the large umbrella I was setting under.
😦 Chas got drenched.
Fortunately, it was about fifteen minutes before my shift was over. So I cam home.
😦 Chas is tired.
🙂 But we raised lots of money to spend on good causes; mostly for the visually impaired.
🙂 I’m glad this Saturday is over.
I said it anyway. I knew you all would want to hear how Jake is doing. She has met both cats and they have agreed to not be best friends at this time. Though Jake would still like to try. She has met all of the dogs and mingled with two of them and learned her place at the bottom of the pecking order. We will wait a bit longer for the third dog, who is the most aggressive toward other dogs though he has been out and not tried to kill her yet.
Chas, did you read my late comment yesterday about making an apple pie in a pie crust making class and the gal next to me started talking about the apple Festival in Hendersonville?? turns out that she is from North Carolina. I told her that it was this weekend and I knew someone who is there.
I saw that Jo. You read what it means to me.
Elvera went to the festival today. They have Main St. closed with merchants and others displaying their wares. Lots of out-of-towners. A parade Monday. I will be back at the parking site at that time. We make good money there for little actual work. Unless a thurndrstorm comes up. Then it’s disaster.
A girl going through life named Jake is alomost as bad as a boy named Sue.
Nor really.
Girls can get away with being named Charley, Kelli, Addison, BillyJoe, Bobbi, etc.
😦 Bugs. My husband had an ongoing battle with drugstore beetles, then with yellow jackets that decided to build in a crack right under our front door, and now with fruit flies.
🙂 Insects. I’ve been enjoying photographing butterflies and other pollinators that find some of our flowers irresistible.
🙂 Finally got some good photos of blue jays this week.
🙂 Finished the editing of the love letters books, ready to upload them and start adding photos–but I’m going to take a break before I do that.
🙂 Misten is happy to have her bath over with and has forgiven me.
Mumsee – When my friends brought home a puppy a few years ago, one of their cats took every opportunity to take a swipe at her. But now, that cat absolutely adores her, & lets her lick his ears. 🙂

okay, my favorite remedy for fruit flies and something I always have out here.
Get a mug and pour in a couple of inches of apple cider vinegar and then add a few drops of dish detergent. My daughter had a house full of fruit flies as she was canning. This concoction must have killed 200 in a day.
Karen – I need one of those. The toilet seat in this house has a tendency to shift locations while in use and the lid is held together with duct tape.
Cheryl – I second your rant on bugs 😦 My ankles and feet are currently covered in scabs from the itching that occurred after I unwisely sat outside after dark; and the swelling has finally gone down on my hand from the bite that yet another nocturnal insect, which I have yet to identify, inflicted upon me.
🙂 Bed net – not only does it keep the bugs off, but it is kind of fun to wake up under a canopy – I always wanted a ‘princess’ bed when I was small.
Ooh, a canopy bed. My girlfriend in high school had one of those and I’d stay over lots of times during the summer when we were going to the beach together every day. There is something very princessy about it.
Fun memories. Those were the days when, as teens free for the summer, we’d stay up until 1-2 a.m. watching TV and then sleep until 11 a.m. the next day.
Roscuro, we use a net when on the coast. When I took the orientation course in Madang I slept under a net every night.
My ankles are also covered with scars. When I was recently in Australia I found something like a bracelet that you put a pellet in and it repels mosquitos. I am setting a new fashion trend here with my ankle bracelet, but haven’t had a bite since. I find that each pellet lasts about 3 weeks. Toilet seats.
Whenever you have to replace a toilet (the whole thing) get an ADA compliant one. They are higher and have an oblong bowl (this is for men).
Cheryl: I once had a fruit fly infestation in my hair! I’d been using mango scented shampoo and then my head started itching. I found tiny bugs in my hair, but couldn’t identify them. I took one to an exterminator and he said it was a fruit fly. I immediately threw out the shampoo! Eeww….
😦 Humidity. We’re not used to humidity on the California coast. And the heat. Ugh. We’re melting.
😦 I woke up really tired this morning — combination of the heat (it was still 80 degrees in my house) and a long work day yesterday with another one ahead tomorrow — and thought to myself, “If I didn’t have N to pick up, I’d stay home from church today.” No sooner had I thought that thought than N called and said her back was thrown out again and she was going to stay home.
So while I hate missing church — and do so rarely — I’m just staying put this morning. Plus I have to work tomorrow and will probably have to be out in the heat interviewing people for stories. In fact, I think I’ll do a story on the heat. 😉

That’s really unusual things have not cooled off, Donna. I can’t remember that ever happening when I was growing up there. The fog came in at night and you could sleep. That even still happens where I am now and I’m a lot farther (as in 30 miles) from the coast than you are.

Michelle, ah, fog … they’re describing our weather as “tropical.” While temperatures aren’t outrageously high (mid to high 80s, though later this week I see it’s supposed to get up to 90), the humidity is high — it’s even hot down at the point, which is very unusual.
Add to that my 1920s-something house that bakes like a cake on hot days, and there you go.
