Prayer Requests 7-3-13

Who has a request or praise to share today?

And it’s Wednesday, so don’t forget to pray for Gambia. 🙂

Psalm 117

1 O praise the Lord, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people.

For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the Lord endureth for ever. Praise ye the Lord.

  1. I love this psalm. I am in Papua New Guinea so that all the nations and people may praise Him. Helping to give them God’s word in their tok ples or heart language.

  3. I love the same thought in Revelation about all nations, tribes and people of different languages praising God. It is always fun to be with different races praising our wonderful God. Praising God with you, Jo.

  4. We’re still having a lot of behavioral issues with Becca. Last night she was quite tired and was a disaster to deal with. She lost TV for three days after an hour of screaming and carrying on. Please pray for me for wisdom on how to best parent her–I’m at a loss. She is incredibly strong-willed. The entire episode last night was b/c she didn’t want to take a shower and go to bed, even though she was utterly exhausted. When she finally went to her bed she was snoring ten minutes later…Help!!!

  5. Also, I’d like to give y’all an update on her medical issue: We saw an asthma/allergy specialist Monday. He said he couldn’t rule out asthma but thinks it may be something else as she did very well on a breathing test and he didn’t hear any wheezing. Because of the way it began, he thinks it may be a sinus infection that is unresolved and wants to do a CT on her sinuses if she still has a cough in ten days. She had a lot of upper respiratory infections last year (to the tune of missing 20 days of school for first grade), so it would be nice to get to the bottom of her problems. He said allergy testing may be necessary, but he wants to wait and see the results of the CT scan before moving forward on the allergy testing. I liked the doctor a lot–he was very thorough and listened to my concerns with compassion. Becca is to continue on the corticosteroid and has a rescue inhaler for when she can’t stop coughing. She had a coughing episode yesterday in the pool where we had to use the rescue inhaler, but before that, we hadn’t used it since last Wednesday. So, she is improving. Thanks for your prayers.

  6. Strong-willed children are willing to put up with a lot of punishment to just win. Add on being over-tired and, probably, not feeling well and it can be disastrous. My sympathies. I wonder if giving her a choice about waking up early for a bath, instead of one then, would have helped? I am just throwing out the thought. I know how difficult finding the right answers can be.

OTOH, they can be great leaders and accomplish much good, when it is all focused in the right direction. My strong-will children are now a joy and blessing to me and others.

Cynthia Tobias has written a book on them and was one herself. Focus on the Family has had some interviews with her about this.

  7. annms, do you have a way to check her breathing at home? Different environments can cause different problems. If she is having some difficulties with asthma at home then the unruly episodes could be because she is not breathing as well as usual and is in a manner fighting because of that issue and not knowing what to do about it but be irritable. My son had allergies and asthma. The medications for it can make the personality change, too. A nieghbor saw him when he was not on meds and wanted to know why he was so happy. It is sad when you have to use meds that make them not be themselves but sometimes it is necessary.

  9. Ann – that doctor sounds great. I have asthma and sometimes, when I’m under a lot of stress, my symptoms don’t respond to inhalers, but when they check me out, my lungs are clear. It is just rest that cures me. So, it could be stress which is causing both the asthma symptoms and the irritability. And Kathaleena has a good point about the chlorine in pools – it irritates my symptoms.
