Prayer Requests 5-10-13

Who has a request or praise to share today?

Psalm 36:5-10

5 Thy mercy, O Lord, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.

6 Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O Lord, thou preservest man and beast.

7 How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

8 They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

10 O continue thy lovingkindness unto them that know thee; and thy righteousness to the upright in heart.

  1. 6 arrows, thanks for your prayers for my son. He’s about 5-6 hours away (depending on who’s driving) God sent a customer who talked to him while he was working yesterday and he was doing much better last night when we talked to him.

  2. Thanks for praying for me, yesterday was a very bad day. By nightfall and a lot of kind wishes on FB, humanity was restored!

My husband and I had an O. Henry Gift of the Magi experience over the house we bought on Monday. He thought he was buying a house I loved, while I was desperately and unsuccessfully trying to make work a house I thought he wanted.

It took three sleepless nights for me and four challenging days of heavy conversation for clarity!

We cancelled the contract, I am happier and relieved and we’re back to square one.

    Which is fine.

A terrible week–the death of our dog, all of us sick, house hunting, church troubles, major problems at work for both of us–laying low and doing nothing should have been the agenda!

But it’s a beautiful day, I can hear the call of mourning doves and sufficient is today for whatever God brings.

  3. I haven’t mentioned Jimmy before. A former Lion and SS member. He is in the Veteran’s Hospital. He had a heart attack and four bypasses. He also has diabetes. The doctors are removing part of his leg today because of gangrene. they won’t know how much until they start. I have been praying for Jimmy for a few weeks now, I thought I would mention him here so that you could mention him to the Lord. He is a Christian, but he has been careless with his health for a long time. Part of this is his fault. We haven’t expected him to survive this long.
I pray that he can survive this with minimum physical, and especially spiritual and emotional damage.

  4. Michelle,
I don’t know if this will be helpful for you or not, but it was our experience when buying a house last year. As I’ve mentioned, we went together with our son and daughter-in-law on something where we could have separate living quarters. So there were four of us involved, not just two. Up front we agreed that everybody had veto rights, no questions asked, everyone would pray about it every day, and we all promised to speak up if we had any reservations about a house. We must have considered close to 50 houses, and with every one that came close, we had a family meeting and ticked through our requirements, comparing them to the house.

At one point, after much haggling with the owner, we were ready to make a final offer on one when dear DIL, in tears, said she just didn’t feel right about it. We took that as a “veto” and backed off. Eventually we found this one and after going through our little “routine” we negotiated a fair price.

Sometimes we all look back on the exprience and ask “How did we end up buying this house?” because it almost feels like we “fell into it” very easily. And we love it and believe that it was at God’s direction.

  5. Kare, that’s very encouraging to hear about that customer who talked with your son. I love how God brings the right person at the right time to accomplish His divine purposes.

Michelle, whew, that’s a lot of heavy stuff in one week. Glad God has brought you to a place of peace today.

Linda, that sounds like a good way to approach house hunting.

Chas, I’ll be praying for Jimmy. My uncle didn’t take good care of himself in his younger adult years and got very overweight, developed diabetes, and had a heart attack at quite a young age, I believe late 30s or early 40s. He survived it, and some time after that, he got serious about his health, lost a good deal of weight, and improved greatly. (I think he had also gotten gangrene at one point before that, if I remember correctly, but didn’t lose a limb.)

He is now 77 years old and is doing pretty well.

  6. My Dad also didn’t take care of himself – was very overweight, developed diabetes, and had heart and kidney problems. He died this past January, 10 days after his 91st birthday. I figure those are some good genes.

  7. My dad didn’t take care of himself either. He had a bad diet and no exercise. He retired to the easy chair and television set. When he was my age, he was dragging around. I’m trying to avoid that.
A bad lifestyle doesn’t assure a short life.
But if you have diabetes you will die. Not immediately, you might live a long time. But bad things can happen to you along the way if you neglect them Things like blindness and other problems.

  8. Our team has organized a missions weekend for Czechs preparing to go out on short-term missions to Moldova and Siberia. Pray for them, for my wife as she shares a message on spiritual preparation for the mission and her practical experiences, and for me as I share a message on missiology. Thank y’all!

  9. Tychicus, will do. Our Lions club is partnering with a Moldova Lions club and the NC Lions assisted them in providing a water distillation plant. We couldn’t do it by ourselves but NC lions, I understand, played a significant part.
And our church is helping support an orphanage in Kirov, in Siberia. Some from our church are going there this fall.
